Camille was born into an aristocratic family from Irithyll, which consisted only of his mother, who raised him herself, with the help of servants. His mother had a strict and ruthless temper.  On the one hand, his upbringing granted Camille a painful and disturbing sense of perfectionism, from which it was very difficult to get rid of later; on the other hand, this provided him an impeccable education which helped him greatly. Later, his mother sent him to the city temple where he was supposed to become a cleric, but due to some personal convictions Camille did not complete his education and ran away. The escape ended with his death, but he did not even have time to realize the whole tragedy of his position, and when he unexpectedly returned to ‘life’ against his will via an Undead Curse as the Ashen One, after the initial shock he took his death and rebirth very easily.

After his unsuccessful education as cleric, he understood what he really desired. Camille's dream was to become a capable magician and he was ready to make every effort for his goal. At the beginning of his journey, he relied on his friends from the Fire Shrine. Orbeck of Vinheim became his 'teacher' and Camille had very warm feelings towards him. In addition to his personal dream, Camille also saw another goal in life — he wanted to help this world, to become an honorable person, perhaps even a hero.

Camille's admiration for Dark Sun Gwyndolin led him to the Blades of the Dark Moon. In some ways, Camille even imitates his idol. There is no need to mention how he hardly survived death of the deity.
