Summary

Remco is an explorer who wants to see the entire world and learn from the many different cultures he had only heard stories about. He's an eager man from a village where two warring cultures came together and made peace, and thus doesn't know conflict.

He has a fixation on history, trying to make people aware of how peaceful his and the Southerner race can be, but also being willing to study how everything went and to travel back to the lives of ancient ancestors.

He recruited Markus to join him on this extensive, life-changing journey, though it's not always appreciated by his friend. Remco wants to experience the world, even if he has no idea what the bad portions of history bring with them.

Physical description

Remco is a rather tall and buff Ashen demon, reaching 187cm or 6'1 in height and weighing 85kg or 187lbs. He has a mid dark grey skin colour. His white hair is at waist length and has a semi-wavy texture. He often keeps it in a low ponytail which hangs over his left shoulder or simply on his back. He has hooded dark brown eyes and black horns which are carved to have a spiralling groove in them. His left ear has two small pieces that have been cut out near the bottom. On his left lower arm, he has three scars, as well as on his chest, where he has two scars going from his left part of the breast to the right part of the belly. He has black tattoos in intricate patterns on the end of his tail.

For clothes, he usually wears clothing suited for the warm weather of the south of Mavomare. He usually wears a short sleeved grey-brownish shirt with a red vest without sleeves over that; brown, long trousers; and dark brown boots made of leather that go up to his knees. He usually carries a brown hipbag with him.

Remco wears quite a few pieces of jewellery. He has a wooden ear ring at the top of both ears, and two silvers ear piercings at the bottom of both ears. He has a wooden and bronze bracelet around his left wrist, as well as three silver rings on his middle finger and a wooden ring with a red gem on his ring finger. Around his tail he wears a wooden bracelet and the arrow shaped tip has four silver piercings in it, two on each side of the bridge.

Personality

They say you don't just leave your home town to become an explorer like that, and it applies to Remco far too well. He is an eager optimist with a lively passion to not only see the world, but to experience it. From home he always had an interest in seeing different people and cultures come together to meet halfway, and his fascination drove him to wanting to know everything there was to know about others' cultures.

He grew up in an accepting environment and has a hard time dealing with the fact that most of the world simply isn't such a paradise. He's not a good peacemaker since he very rarely had to deal with a true conflict at home, so interacting with cultures that aren't open to him is almost impossible.

Remco is never going to fight someone. It takes a lot to get him annoyed, let alone angered, and most of his annoyance comes from being unable to immediately find things or get info freely as an outsider. He hates violence but at the same time has only been victim of it twice. He's fairly weak and terrified in that aspect, his lack of experience prompts him to flee dangerous situations rather than face them or fight back.

Connections

markus_by_elithianfox-dbnidxo.png
Markus M. Leon - Travel buddy and best friend
Remco met Markus on his trip to the southern Bloodlands. He was infatuated with the man's goat legs, which at first offended the man, but was a basis for their growing friendship. Remco was the one who convinced Markus to leave, and Markus proved to be the cure to Remco's loneliness and inexperience on his travels.

Mr. Snuggles - Friend's pet
Mr. Snuggles is a good friend and pet to Remco, and even though they haven't known each other for as long, Remco is aware of how much the dog means to Markus and values him for the same reason.

Backstory

1213665_qRkarePoZMLpoEW.png?1507668048

Kenarii
Remco was born on the Kenarii isle during a time when tensions between the Ashen and the Southerners were causing a lot of injury, kidnapping, and deaths. The Southerners never liked their neighbours because they spiritually embrace their darkness instead of rejecting it. In this petty war, likeminded people of both sides of the conflict traveled north and created a pacifist enclave where they could live together without fearing each other's hatred. Remco was one of the children of its many inhabitants.

The village had been around for a long time and cultures seamlessly merged over time, sharing both cultures' traditions and spiritualities into several big village cultures. Remco got to enjoy the island's rich history as told by both sides and was able to choose whichever path he wanted to choose and ended up choosing to accept his race's natural darkness and just like his parents celebrate it.

The village's docks were regularly visited by merchants who introduced great stories about their homeland to the native people. Remco was encumbered by all the possibilities out there and felt the mighty need to go out to check out all of these things for himself. He grew up with an interest in sports, going out to survive in the forests for weeks with family friends, and reading every single piece of history he could get his hands on, which due to their location wasn't that much.

Into the wide world
When he was 24, he left his village on one of the traveling ships. He took some of his culture with him in the form of a traditional tattoo on his tail and jewellery made from the typical minerals and wood found in the area. The ship sailed west, over the Naedii island and down south to finally drop him off at a cultural metropolis by Mavomare's southeastern coast. He spent his first year just staying in that city, studying the history of the area, the country, and the entire world. The stories of war and bloodshed between different cultures didn't faze him a bit; after all a war written down in the books feels just the same as the war he was told happened on their isle yet he was never confronted with.

Because he was one of the first people to leave his home town without the intention of coming back, he was given quite a few supplies and money to use on his journeys, and he was tasked to make sure that every place he visited knew about their peaceful bastion, that their two races weren't just about fighting each other. He was happy to be this sort of representative of his country and presented his home town's history to the world with honour. It wouldn't always be met with success or belief, but he did manage to get someone to write it down to be verified later.

Markus
He left the city after a year of studying there and headed for a route of cities and locations he had marked down as noteworthy during his studies. Now that he was out of the city he became fascinated by something not so obvious before: the radically different climate, vegetation, and geography of Mavomare. Familiar jungles were replaced by vast plains, a nearly flat hilly terrain, and occasional rain that was actually cold to the touch. He spent longer traveling than he had anticipated thanks to this change of environment. When he reached small villages, he stayed at the home of some of its inhabitants and asked their story before moving on to the next one.

One day he came across something he had never seen before, a herd of thick wooly animals on hooves. He carefully approached to examine them but was yelled at by an angered man before a rock shot past his left arm and cut into his skin. Never before had one of the natives attacked him so he dashed to safety before realising he was bleeding pretty heavily from the wounds the attack had created. The pain was only now setting in and the wound was much deeper than he had thought. He couldn't treat it with what he had with him so he returned to the last village he was at in search of medical help.

The locals aided him and he bought some supplies he could use when he was underway, but they advised him to stay in their village until he had recovered again. He agreed and stayed for a few more days. After a night of rest and a day of walking around the village bored, at the evening he found a pen that was empty earlier than now had the strange animals he had seen the day before. He didn't see anyone around and took the opportunity to examine the animals properly before going to bed.

He was bummed out by not being able to go far and he didn't want to run into the sheep man again, so for the time being he stayed in the village and structured the temporary notes he had taken but hadn't yet written down into his notebook so that he could finally get rid of all the extra paper in his bags. He learned from the people that the animals were sheep, an animal with materials that could easily grow back and good meat, and that they were taken out into the country to graze every day. Now animals were something he wanted to learn about too, but he did realise that it meant he could meet the angry guy again.

On his last day when walking through the village he got a pebble thrown at his head and saw it was the guy from before, but rather than a normal guy he was a man whose legs were those of an animal complete with brown for and hooves. He asked for a ceasefire and after a few more barrages he got it. He managed to talk up the man, named Markus, as he wasn't used to people praising him for his legs rather than avoiding him.

[As for the rest: Remco gets Markus to join him on his travels on the condition that he can take his black sheep with him, they happily marry culture, the end]
