Espers big sister
and flurry's overprotective girlfriend
she is a decorated and fiercely powerful guard that trained personally under Shining Armor. She was a newly appointed lieutenant but requested transfer to ponyville to serve under the new Princess Twilight and to be closer to her sister Esper, who had also recently set up her shop in town.
Newly appointed captain of the guard of the Castle of Friendship, Sentinel keeps a firm watch on the borders of ponyville, a professionalism that puts the mane six off just a bit, but that's life now!
She is recognized for her unrivaled forcefield magic, capable of producing and managing a very large shield over ponyville. Currently she is trying to persuade Twilight to hire additional guards to help keep the field up in the event she is unable to manage it herself.
Her forcefield is unique in that, like canterlots field, it is able to sit over ponyville without consequence to the natural occurrence of flora and fauna. But it is specially attuned to Sentinels sensitivity to magic and she is able to not only use the shields radius to detect and monitor different types of magic, but also sift through and decide what should be blocked, investigate, or allowed to linger. She meditates weekly to monitor her shield.
