Former Crewmember: Elias Vargas

BIOGRAPHY:

Snow & Arrow's former engineer and also an android, Vargas was one of the first members of the crew.  His internal schematics are nonstandard for humanlike androids; he's a completely "homebrew" creation, which means getting parts for repairs is difficult, and he claims to have a few glitches due to his design.  On the ship, he largely avoided talking about his personal life with his coworkers, and became touchy if the subject was ever broached.  He and Azriel never quite got along, with Azriel seeing Vargas as too standoffish and Vargas seeing Azriel as too bratty.  As can be expected, once Azriel became captain, Vargas couldn't stand it anymore and quit.  Despite disagreements with Azriel, and a speech impediment making him hard to understand, he otherwise got along with the rest of the crew and enjoyed life on the Izsak-Delporte, so it was a bit shocking that he just up and left without even attempting to work things out in a job he otherwise enjoyed.

Vargas was actually jealous of Snow's affection toward Azriel.  It came across as motherly to him...while he also felt that way toward Snow, himself.  She saw beyond his design flaws and treated him as just a normal person, which is all he was really looking for in life.  He appreciated this deeply, but couldn't help but notice she seemed to always dote on Azriel in particular, despite them always coming across as insufferable.  To make matters worse, Azriel's cockiness is exactly what got Snow into the mess that got her killed!  And she still wanted them to be the next captain despite that?  It was completely illogical to him.  So he left!

Nowadays, he finds himself working at the moderately-populated Hundred Lights Spaceport γ (I.D. 014Y0-442-D0019), where he runs his very own repair shop.  This is the first venture he's ever ran by himself, and as his own boss he finds himself with a motley crew of his very own.  The people that have gravitated toward him seem to be misfits just like him, such as a two-headed kyrel (a rare mutation) and a rexicor (a reptilian alien race that galactic society finds hard to trust).  Perhaps it's the increased responsibility, or him getting older, or the fact he's his own "captain" now, but whatever the reason, Vargas finds himself a bit nostalgic for Snow & Arrow in the present day.  Maybe it's high time he reached out.

FUN FACTS:

His speech is often disorganized and he talks too fast.  He claims this is one of the glitches in his programming he can't fix, as the files involved are too interconnected with things like personality and memory.

Despite his gruff demeanor and disagreeableness with Azriel, as a crewmember he often proved himself to be very empathetic toward others, moreso with actions than words.

His "tattoos" are actually modifications to his synthetic skin, with lights shining through his robotic exoskeleton underneath.  He can turn off the glow if necessary.
