Mattie

Appearance - Mattie is covered in a quite vibrant and fluffy coat. Along his back, it's a bright orange color which fades to a cream along his stomach. He is somewhat short in stature, standing at 5’3’’ with a slim build. His bright blue eyes stand out against the orange of his coat, bringing attention to them. His hair is amber with highlights throughout and it's quite curly. Although his coat is naturally fluffy, he trims much of it back to keep a neat appearance. With his pointed muzzle and coat coloration, he is often mistaken for a fox upon first glance, and resents this quite a bit for no particular reason. Mattie’s dress is eye-catching by design. He wears bright, almost neon colors, usually orange or yellow with a pop of turquoise. When working, he wears a suit and tie, but will dress more casually when off work.

Personality - Mattie certainly fits well within the “type A personality” archetype. He is headstrong and a go-getter, ever striving for his goals. Incredibly organized and precise, he doesn’t take kindly to anything setting him back, though he takes setbacks in stride once he gets over the initial frustration. Generally, he is quite up-beat and incredibly polite in most situations, although it’s unclear if his politeness is only to help him achieve his goals. He often holds himself to a very high standard, and is inevitably devastated by his failures. He has big dreams, and nothing is going to stop him from achieving them. Nothing. That includes the opinions of others, his health, and possibly even the law. Despite his workaholic attitude and perfectionism, he cares deeply about the truth and the needs of the people, not just about his own success. Deep down, he wants to make a positive impact on the world. He has an insatiable curiosity and will not drop a subject he wants to get to the bottom of, even if he probably should. This lands him in trouble quite frequently, but his charisma and quick thinking can usually get him out of it. He likes to be in charge, can’t admit his flaws, and hates being shown up. In his personal relationships, which he has few of on account of his work, he is rather doting. He gets attached to people easily and always wants the best for them.

Background - Mattie grew up in a middle class family living in London that was all around standard. He lived with his mother, father, and two sisters (he’s the middle child.) The family relationship was good. Although he bickered with his siblings, as one does, he was and is still very close to them. The same is true with his parents. His father worked with the Neighborhood Watch, but is now retired, and his mother held an office job. He may not have seen them much, but they were there when he needed them. Although his upbringing was quite mild, there was always an undertone of pressure to succeed and to live a mainstream life. From a young age, his father imbued Mattie with a strong sense of justice and morality, although their ideas of what justice and morality looked like diverged as Mattie grew. Once on to university, Mattie settled on the idea of becoming a journalist, liking the idea of exposing the truth of corrupt governments or the criminal underworld. He wanted this for the good of the people, but there was an undeniable wish for fame with that as well. After graduating, his passion and enthusiasm, as well as perfectionism, helped him make his way to a secure job as an investigative news reporter on a local television station. He holds this job now, looking to move up the ranks and maybe even become well-known someday.
