"And so...the Nightmare revives."

A talented demon with tremendous magical abilities. By human standards he's been around for quite a long time but still is considered young among other demons; especially his kin. He currently lives and works in a castle owned by the King of Demons as the "Royal Mage", taking care of any pests that dare to cross his king's path.

When not doing work for his king, Naraka is often studying. He desires to learn anything and everything as he is extremely curious. If any new form of magic is discovered you can bet he'll jump straight into it. It doesn't matter how dark or dangerous it may be either. He'll take the risk in order to gain more knowledge.

History

Long ago a monstrous beast roamed Ul’gakoth’s land and neighboring realms. This beast was known as “The Enchanted Flame”. It brought death and destruction to many and was shrouded in the hottest hellfire anyone had seen during that time. The Enchanted Flame was nothing more than a barbaric monster that ruined everything it came into contact with and yet it was too powerful to be destroyed. Many had risen up in an attempt to stop the beast but none prevailed. It was a small group of mages that came up with a plan to do away with the Enchanted Flame. The largest dormant volcano in Ul’gakoth soon became the grounds in which The Enchanted Flame was imprisoned, sealed away to bring peace to the lands. The volcano had not erupted in countless centuries and was long believed to be dead. It was the perfect prison for the Enchanted Flame and over time, the beast withered away and died, leaving only a tiny ember behind; buried deep within the bowels of the volcano.

For years this ember flickered and grasped at life, cradled in the ashes of its burned out prison, protected from the elements, and forgotten by the world around it. It was thought the story of the Eternal flame had finally come to an end. But this was not to be, perhaps it was the mages fault, trapping such a magically charged beast inside the belly of a cold mountain, or perhaps it was the seals itself upon the mountain. Something tipped the scales of fate and with it the once dormant volcano began to awaken. As the bed of ashes cracked, and the mountain took its first hot breath, so did the ember within its gut. With such raw energy spilling forth, the flicker of power greedily fed upon the thermal energy around it, growing, changing, like a caterpillar it wrapped itself in the bubbling lava and soon it was able to retain a shape for itself. It’s magical vitality renewing rapidly as the mountain belched smoke for the first time in centuries. This did not go unnoticed. As the mages responsible for sealing away the Eternal flame looked on, worry etched upon their features, they continued to reassure one another that it would not escape. However, they were not the only ones watching. Another mage was waiting; a hungry expression on her features….

Eventually their worry got the better of them when they spotted the diminutive shape within the volcano. They could no longer turn a blind eye to what was happening. No larger than a toddler, it’s shape mattered little, it showed that it was gaining power quickly. The mages couldn’t afford to allow it to grow any larger, fearing this second coming would not only break the seals, but allow it to grow beyond the magic, their magic, should they allow it to live. They organized it’s extermination that night. This was their first and last mistake. As they surrounded the creature, they were attacked from behind. The Demoness had waited for such an opportunity, and the imp lashed out at all of them. Using the raw power of the mountain itself it murdered half the mages in a single blow. The others tried to flee, but the intruding caster sealed their fate herself, using them as bait to attack the imp when its guard was down; dragging it from the volcano as fast as she could. The imp was blackened and afraid, its burning eyes glowed as hot as the red veins of magma under its flesh, but this didn’t concern the demoness.

How it screamed. The mage ripped away the crude magical energy it surrounded itself with, peeling away the fire and even using magic to strip away the soot that blackened its skin. What it revealed was a child with piercing yellow eyes and hair of flame that refused to go out. She was far from finished as she reached her campsite by the river, submerging the terrified creature as she fished out her knife. Taking her time as it struggled for air to slash its chest, peeling away his flesh to shove a rune covered shard deep into his rib cage, just barely missing its heart. As blood clouded the water its shrieks were muted by the current. The rune changed the creature further, its veins of crimson fire muted to allow the alabaster skin to show through. Its eternal flame thickened and dimmed before completely turning to true hair. The soaking locks resembling the fiery color completely as they curled around his submerged face. The beast of a thousand banes was sealed within its singular flesh and bone form.

A djinn was born, forced to reach for its power gradually as it never had before. The great elemental was slave to its own body, forced to relearn life in a way it never even fathomed. Bound to a name, one that if uttered out loud would force the creature to bend to its speakers will, the child was slowly weaponized.

How long did this child suffer under the abuse of his mistress? Days, months, years. All of it was an eternity to the young demon. And demon he was now. The djinn held no memories of its past life nor could it access its fountain of magical energy without knowledge on how to use it. This frustrated his mistress to no end, what’s more, he held an equally irksome amount of free will on top of this. Since the Mage’s rune was not within the creature’s heart his soul was safe outside the binding of his name.

A name that eventually drove him to madness-

“...Eternal Flame...you...monster..."

The demoness began to choke on her own blood as she uttered his accursed name just one last time before her heart gave out. That was the last time he had ever heard his name spoken. The last time the demoness ever held control over him and by then, it was too late. The light in her eyes faded rapidly as her life was snuffed out by the very creature she had enslaved. The young Djinn was now free after spilling the blood of his master. He was free to do whatever he pleased now! No one could control him ever again! ...but what was it he wanted to do? For so long he had been a slave to that demoness and only dreamed of freedom until now. And now when he had it in his hands, he didn't know what to do with it.

The Djinn moved from place-to-place, using his magic to survive as he was not physically strong. In time even his magic seemed to plateau and that drove the Djinn to seek training. Magic was the only thing keeping him alive and he could not afford to let such abilities slip. That was how he found himself in the realm of Varthron, the land of darkness. Here he turned to studying extensively, even performing dangerous rituals upon himself to grow stronger. Life was a complicated thing but for the time being, the little Djinn decided he wanted to be the strongest mage in all the realms. A tough and near impossible goal but it was something to strive for, something to give his life some form of meaning.

That meaning of his life was put to the test one day when word of a tournament reached his ears. The king of demons was looking for a mage and thus a tournament was formed to find one. The strongest mages from all over the various realms would gather here and this was the perfect chance the Djinn had to test his skills. He would go in and annihilate the competition (figuratively and literally). He went into the tournament with high expectations and while some of the mages provided some competition, no one seemed to hold a candle to him and the tournament was easily won—much to his disappointment. From the winner's circle he met the king of demons.

Song Magic

A long lost arte, Naraka is only able to accomplish using this type of magic thanks to the rune on his tongue. This type of magic is executed through singing and allows the singer to convert their emotions into energy that can be used for attacking, supporting, or healing. Naraka tends to only use this as a means of support or healing; though, only a select few are privy to such magick.

Song Magic allows Ko to heal others with ease and even craft what many would think impossible. He knows many spells in this form but tends to rely on a handful; yet, there is one spell he will not use. XaaaCi. The time that song was crafted was in a dire need and it obliterated all—friend and foe—leaving Naraka in dreadful state. It awakens a raw and primal power deep within, one that he cannot control and he is rather afraid to use it.

Kin

As a Djinn, Naraka has a surprisingly large family that he doesn't really know. All other elementals tend to view one another as kin in some form and unlike his other kin, Naraka as not nearly as handsy as they are. The ones he's closet to are Dhatos, an Earth Djinn that took Naraka under his wing for a few years after he escaped imprisonment from his mistress. And the second he knows is one that goes by the name of Llyr Po, a water Djinn.

Hanasaki

[ Friend ] Even though their elements are completely different, Naraka enjoys Hanasaki's company. The healer is quite often calm and will lend an ear without an ounce of judgment. Not to mention Naraka quite enjoys working with the other to make new medicines. It's a valuable learning experience to work with someone as talented in healing as Hanasaki.

Dhatos

[ Brother ] An earthen elemental Djinn that took Naraka under his wing when the smaller demon finally escaped his mistress. Naraka looks up to him like a big brother and, on occasion, a father figure. Dhatos roams the land a lot but will pop back up for the occasional surprise visit.

Bairei

[ Complicated ] A human that has come beyond the veil for reasons that still make no sense to the demon. Despite it all, however, Naraka finds him amusing in his own way and cannot help but harass Bairei at whatever given opportunity he has. It always gets a rise out of the human and provides entertainment in various ways. And while their relationship is quite complicated, Naraka may be falling for the pitiful human creature...
