Brief Summary:

Mizore Ito is a young Japanese girl with a kind heart and gloomy complexion. Throughout her life, she has grown up afflicted by a malicious curse; a curse which causes her to become a magnet for hauntings and other strange, supernatural occurrences. Thus, she tends to close herself off from others, though she is very lonely and wishes she could make more friends.
During her 2nd term in the 1st year of high school, she lived in the U.S. in New Orleans as an exchange student. While there, she was nicknamed "Misery" as people would often mispronounce her name as Miz-err-ree. However, she and her host family's daughter Lydia became good friends. When she returns to Japan in the 3rd term of the 1st school year, she's forced to join the occult club by Momoe Hagino, a beautiful and popular girl who outs herself as an occult fanatic who became obsessed with Mizore's connection to the paranormal. From then on, the club becomes a ghost hunting team, using Mizore's presence to attract hauntings.

Appearance:

Mizore is a young Japanese girl of petite/average height with a slender body. She has short, jet-black, glossy hair styled into a bob cut with her bangs cut straight. Her eyes are an eerie and unnatural milky white, likely caused by the curse that was laid upon her. Even though her irises look cloudy, her vision is perfectly fine. Her intense, strained gaze gives her a haunting and even unsettling look. Her lips are also unnaturally dark, giving her the appearance of wearing dark lipstick. Her skin is extremely pale, looking nearly white in appearance. In an attempt to brighten up her face a bit, she wears pinkish-red eyeshadow on the sides of her eyes. She also has a small beauty mark underneath her right eye. Her gloomy disposition aside, she is considered to be very pretty.

She wears the standard female Haibara Senior High School issued uniform. The winter variant includes a black blazer, a white button-up dress shirt, a dark pleated skirt, a black tie, and black loafers. She also wears black/dark grey tights. The summer variant of her uniform forgoes the black blazer and shortens the sleeves of the white button-up dress shirt.

Her casual style of dress is cute, simple and modest, only using neutral tones and dark or pale colors.

Personality:

Mizore is a very demure, shy and lonely person and is quite easily embarrassed. She is very polite and well-mannered as well as kind-hearted and caring for others. She tends to speak humbly of herself while being highly respectful to others, though she is still quite introverted. She is very empathetic and when she encounters the spirit of someone who has died a sad or lonely death, it is difficult for her to hold herself together after feeling their pain. She'll often try to help put spirits to rest. Despite being haunted by spirits and supernatural creatures throughout her life, she is still very easily frightened. She often believes that because of her misfortune, she's responsible for all the bad things that happen around her and to the people around her. Because of this, she isolates herself from others, even though she truly wants to make friends and create happy memories for herself with others. This isn't helped by the fact that most people tend to avoid her anyway due to her slightly creepy and gloomy appearance. Rumors about her placing curses on people she doesn't like, as opposed to her being the one who was actually cursed, are common, much to Mizore's dismay.

However, when she temporarily moves to New Orleans as an exchange student, she becomes friends with her host family's very friendly and excitable daughter Lydia Galois. Much to Mizore's surprise, Lydia is quite interested in the supernatural, and especially of Japanese culture, and she becomes a true friend of hers. Mizore becomes more open and optimistic as a result of their friendship. When Mizore moves back to Japan, Momoe Hagino, one of the school's most popular female students, outs herself as an occult fanatic and confronts Mizore. She admits to have been watching Mizore for a long time and that she's come to the realization that Mizore must be some sort of magnet for supernatural activity. She has Mizore join the Occult Club with her so they can use her to attract hauntings, much to Mizore's chagrin. However, once she joins the club, she grows to become friends with Momoe along with the other club members. Lydia even transfers to Mizore's school as an exchange student and joins the club as well. Finally having a group of friends that don't fear her or avoid her brings her much joy and happiness.
