Diamond Dust is the only child of Spike and Diamond Tiara and their relationship was a bit of a shock to everyone. Despite this they get along very well and raised Dusty in a very secure family home. When he was young his mother decided to give her mother Spoiled Rich another chance and would allow her to babysit Dusty; however resented going to visit due to how strict she was with him. Spoiled would except only prefect manners, posture and behavior befitting someone of her family, she would regularly make him practice how to be a "gentlecolt". It came to a head one day when his mother was picking him up and he finally told how unhappy he was with these lessons. Tiara had no idea it was happening and blew up at her mother as she felt like Spoiled was trying to make him into what she wanted Tiara to be when she was his age. Spoiled was completely confused by this and through the fight she let slip how she thought Tiara had only married Spike to use him to get close to the Princesses which only made Tiara even more furious. This was the last time Dusty ever went over to Spoiled's house and he still remembers how his mother bundled him up and stormed away.

After this he had little to no contact with his mother's side of the family but doesn't mind since he has "Auntie Twi" and her family. He still feels guilty about what happened when he was young and thinks that maybe he shouldn't have said anything to his mother about Spoiled but she reassures him that he can tell her anything, she only cares about his happiness.
