Reverie is a wandering bard and a member of The Order of the Gauntlet - an organization that seeks to protect the world from evil through justice and retribution.

She travels from town to town, battling the tide of evil by day and earning coin in taverns by night. She plays the mandolin, the tin whistle, and tells uproarious tales when she's too tired or drunk for either. She loves a good ruckus, and can often be found starting and/or finishing brawls, especially if it's in order to defend a lady's honor. Since her pay varies, it helps if those ladies invite her to their bedrooms overnight, too. Never stuck in one place for long, she always says goodbye and sets out to find where the next day will take her afterwards.

She is also the proud owner of a not-unremarkable collection of knives, and a whip which she is not proficient in using as a weapon.

BACKGROUND (SPOILERS)

For several years, Reverie (then called Bruriah, from her human mother) was part of a vibrant and successful troupe of entertainers who were more like family to her. After a terrible betrayal, she was ostracized and forced to split off and find her own way in life.

They used to travel from town to town, performing in town squares, inns and taverns for the other common folk. The troupe's main singer, a stunning and talented air genasi named Nephele, had a soft and echoing voice that would draw crowds and entrance them for hours. While Reverie was more or less close with everyone, her favorite act was playing her fiddle while Nephele sang. Eventually they became lovers, singing together on occasion as well.
The schism started when an audience member was killed during a performance, apparently in a botched attempt on Nephele's life. The culprit was never found, but a rumor was spread that Reverie herself was responsible due to her innate evil nature. As a result, she was abandoned by all of her friends and left heartbroken by her partner. She never found enough evidence to clear her name, but her suspicions fall on two people - the jealous half-elf horn player Janus, or Nephele herself.

Nephele always had two sides to her - carefree and gentle one moment, then distrusting, aloof and vicious the next. They'd both had difficult upbringings with single mothers and struggled to fit into society, but they always managed to build each other up and bring comfort when times were tough. However, Reverie couldn't always conquer Nephele's fears and their arguments were extremely heated. After their final encounter, Reverie destroyed her fiddle in angst and hasn't touched one since.

After she left the troupe she decided to change her name and forge a new life, ending up in The Order of the Gauntlet. For a long time she traveled aimlessly between taverns, drunkenly performing and getting into brawls with unscrupulous patrons. A particularly brutal fight involving a gaggle of men and an unhappy maid led to a member of The Order introducing her to Tyr: The deity known as The Sword of Justice. As an entertainer, she and the rest of the group had always favoured Milil, the deity of song, creativity and inspiration. While her position in The Order has given her a newfound sense of purpose, she often finds herself torn between the ideologies of her past (art, freedom, hedonism) and that of The Order (justice, order, righteousness).
