Born as an abandoned cub, later adopted by one of the island’s spirits, named Flora, Aurelius’s upbringing is a result of his  Dissociative Identity Disorder (DID). As an adopted bear cub, Aurelius believes that he was never given a real name, or even a surname. His parents both died when Aurelius was born. His mother died giving birth to her only son, and his father committed suicide due to his inability to care for Aurelius. All personalities would later be brought up onto him in adulthood. Flora is a spirit that spends her lifetime looking after the first newborns they find, Aurelius being hers. She kept a load of strict rules in place, just to keep Aurelius alive, which included feeding him sometimes too much food, making him fight for himself at a young age, and forcing him to make a cave his home, even when he wishes to be elsewhere. Outside of Aurelius’s chaotic, murderous, bloodlust personality, Aurelius can actually be a very shy and introverted bear, which was a trait he kept all his life, even before his disorder. It is very rare for him to find someone to trust all the time, so he will often do a lot of the things he wants to do for himself. Sometimes, he doesn’t even trust Flora for a lot of things that go on his mind. Aurelius uses his unique fur patterning as a way to communicate to anyone he finds about his personality disorder, the orange side being his normal self, then the other side being his personality disorder. Despite him feeling unable to explain his condition, using his fur to help him does make it an effective way to explain it to everyone.
