Sheol

As the ancient texts surrounding Lotus's life were discovered and passed around through generations, slowly the rumor that his younger brother poisoned him were taken as the truth. Sheol was jealous, this is true, but not stupid. He knew if any harm had come to his brother, even back then he would be the first to be suspected. This jealousy was solely because of how he was treated compared Lotus. Sheol was a bastard child, born sickly and grey with the umbilical cord tied around his neck like a noose. Lotus however, was considered a "miracle" as Sheol's birth had seemingly rendered his mother infertile. As they grew up, Sheol became more bitter to the world around him which treated him in kind.

After Lotus's death, a plague spread through the village like wildfire, devastating both the land and its people. Sheol was the last of the villagers to die, taking his own life at the foot of his brother's grave. His blood seeped into the soil below as he uttered a curse with his dying breath, vowing to not be overlooked in death as he had in life. As long as Lotus existed, so would he, and so would pain and suffering exist on earth.

The heaviness of the rot permeating his being caused his soul to be cast down into the cold emptiness below the earth. In this bleak expanse he established his domain; rocky crags and fetid pools of boiling magma baring stark contrast to his brother's haven. Those who've passed away with souls full of rot are condemned to be the playthings of the devils that roam these forsaken grounds, overseen by Sheol with an uncaring gaze. He's convinced the only way to rid himself of this all-consuming hate is to use his ever-growing army of demons to overtake Heaven, usurping Lotus's throne and acquiring the adoration and power he always deserved.
