Dove

No one is ever quite sure what to do with Dove. To be fair, even Dove doesn’t know what to do with herself. She is indecisive all the time, often to the point of paralysis. It’s a huge problem that she’s never been able to truly face. That doesn’t mean that Dove isn’t trying - trust us, she is - but it’s really hard.

Dove is often unintentionally rude. He’s not very aware of how people interact and has a hard time grasping social customs. It’s the kind of thing that’s gotten him into trouble more than once. He also has a difficult time with most compromise - his thinking tends to veer more towards the more black and white side rather than the nuanced shades of grey that exist.

Dove generally prefers to keep to herself. She’s the kind of person who doesn’t go out of her way to interact with people. While she does make an attempt to be polite if people try to interact with her, she’ll try and get them to leave as soon as possible. Usually, it’s just with lots of passive aggression. After all, Dove isn’t a terribly violent person.

Many people find Dove as a guide when they’re lost in the Outlands. If he guides them out, then they don’t bother him. He’s a skilled tracker and outdoors-person. He’s almost an encyclopedia of wildlife knowledge. This comes in handy because of all the weird things that live beyond the settled areas of the Outlands. Plus, it helps him get rid of people.

Although she hates it, Dove is a very emotionally unstable person. Ideally, no one would know what she feels at a given moment. However, she has little control over her emotions and they end up exploding. She feels things deeply, too deeply in her opinion. This can lead to very embarrassing incidents that she doesn’t like to think about.

Humans have never understood the big picture of the universe, so it was no surprise that when they tore a hole in the universe that the primordial gods began to war. The gods blamed each other for the humans’ actions. Of course, when gods war, strange things happen.

When the rift was formed, the ringox’ Shrine Realm was barely affected - except for the small pile of dust that floated into the void of the universe where Chaos and Order were raging against each other. Their combined rage compressed the dust into an unstable ringox core - Dove’s core.

Dove’s core floated through the rift, and as it did so it became connected to the Golden Isles, effectively tying Dove’s life to that of the strange not-land. As the rift closed, the core activated and Dove - a fully grown adult - formed.

Nobody ever properly socialized Dove. However, as he explored, the residue of the primordials’ energy allowed him to subconsciously absorb information about how to be a person. People tried to bring him into society, but he rejected that in favor of remaining in nature.

Of course, Dove didn’t know that she was a ringox. She was stuck in the Golden Isles, she had no way of knowing what a ringox was until meeting Annalise. Although Dove was wary at first, she soon discovered that Annalise was actually a person she could tolerate and even enjoy.

Dove’s life is simple, but he’s very fine with it. If he tried, he could probably break back into the universe. He doesn’t want to though.
