Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Long hair that trails past shoulders, black on the right half, white on the left half
    • Right eyebrow is also black and left eyebrow is white
  • Red eyes, always wearing black eyeliner
  • Fair skinned, dark green patch grafted/stitched onto right side of face
  • Slender build, most of his body aside from his head and hands are replaced with wooden doll parts
  • Medium in height
  • Has strings attached to limbs that seem to control his movements and allow him to walk or float
    • The strings do not seem to connect to anything and always phase through the ceiling above or just disappear in the air

Clothing Style

Marius is always dressed in a formal style, often wearing colorful outfits that look somewhere between military and ringmaster themed. His colorful outfits tend to have red and green color schemes with black accents, whereas his more muted outfits are entirely black and white. He is most commonly seen wearing some kind of dressy jacket with epaulets and layered over a dress shirt, along with either dress pants and dress shoes or sometimes shorts with stockings and high boots. He always seems to wear gloves, which cover his still-human hands, and his outfits usually tend to have a rose theme and include embroidered rose/vines/thorn designs on them.

Personality

It is hard to say what Marius’s personality once was before he was trapped within the Mansion. He is only interested in carrying out the will of the mistress and catching any visitors in order to add them to her doll collection. Marius comes off as energetic, sadistic, and charismatic with his words, and his movements and personality as a whole is quite dramatic and packed with unnecessary flourishes. He tends to be bossy toward other denizens of the Mansion besides the mistress, and he tends to order others around since he not a terribly imposing figure on his own. Despite this, Marius still holds a rather intimidating presence due to his remorseless pursuit of visitors and blasé attitude toward killing anyone who causes trouble.

Abilities

  • Gost rifting - rank 3/5
  • Capable of phasing through walls, disappearing, and floating from his marionette strings

Strengths

  • Cunning, charismatic, and eloquent
  • Persuasive, confident, and boisterous
  • Relentless, observant, and energetic
  • Quick witted, creative, and resourceful

Weaknesses

  • He is incapable of moving without the use of his marionette strings
  • Even when able to move, he is very light weight and not very meticulous or subtle with his movements
  • Short tempered, prideful, and bossy
  • Bound to the Mansion and brainwashed to serve the mistress of the manor unquestioningly

Backstory

Marius has very little memory of his life. All he knows now is that he belongs in the Mansion with all the other dolls, and his purpose is to please the mistress of the manor. The mistress apparently likes him for his face and for his hands, which are the only things still organic about his mostly-wooden doll body. He has been made into a marionette that is pulled along by mysterious strings, and he acts as a sentry for the Mansion, seeking out visitors for the Chopper to turn into new dolls.

Trivia:

  • Marius’s name came from the character of the same name from Les Misérables. I just wanted a flowery sounding boy name, and Marius sure was flowery.
    • It’s also kind of a play on the word “marionette.”
  • The mistress of the manor tends to only keep the features of visitors that she really likes when turning them into her dolls. Marius only has his face and hands left, since she apparently found them to be the most beautiful parts of him.
    • The green section of his face is real skin, but obviously not from a human. It was grafted onto his face to replace scar tissue from a severe burn. He does not remember when he was burned, but the mistress wanted to keep the good parts of his face and fix the ruined part without damaging his eyes.
    • He remarks that even though the colors do not match, the mistress still is pleased with his face because his skin is “perfect” in terms of texture.
  • Marius is frequently seen hovering around the Chopper and tends to order him around since the Chopper isn’t terribly smart. Marius searches for visitors and then alerts the Chopper to catch them and turn them into dolls.
  • Marius plays a large role in deciding which parts of a visitor get replaced with doll parts and how exactly it is done. The Chopper does all the modifications, but Marius is the one that directs him on behalf of the mistress.
  • He loves the roses around the Mansion, but he is not fond of their vines that grow all over the ceilings.
  • Terrified of fire and anything that may damage his face or hands.
    • He fears if his perfect parts are ruined, then he will be worthless to the mistress and then discarded.
    • His fear of fire may stem from the burn that was previously on his face, but he has no memory of this incident that caused the scar.
  • If his wooden doll parts are damaged, he does not feel any pain, but he will likely react in an overly dramatic manner regardless just because of his personality and feeling upset or offended that he was damaged at all.
    • He will be vindictive if his doll parts are injured and will pursue even more relentlessly, but if his human parts are injured or even close to being damaged, he will panic and likely flee.
