When first meeting Cayden, many people feel very intimidated. He is very large, muscular, and stoic. But don’t let his appearance distract you, Cayden is a giant teddy bear who loves nothing more than gardening and fostering kittens. While he may not say much and doesn’t really display his emotions, his hugs are soft and his few words are warm. Cayden grew up with a lot of younger siblings and became somewhat of a mother hen over the years. He knows how to cook, take care of little children, and comfort tears. He knows some basic sewing and patching as well. Cayden works as a barber, yet many of his clients say their cuts are almost like therapy sessions. Unlike the stereotypical hairdresser who talks and talks, Cayden’s persona draws stories out of his clients. Troubles, worries, stressors, hardships, Cayden takes them all in and makes the time during the haircut a safe place to work through things. He doesn’t let them negatively impact him and calmly holds the space for his clients. When he gets home, Cayden relaxes through healthy activities. His stoicness may be seen as an unhealthy thing as it is important to let emotions out, but this is not the case for Cayden. He does not lock away his feelings. He does not often display them, but his emotions go into his kind acts and favorite activities. When he is upset, pulling weeds or taking a walk almost always helps. But one may wonder, why is Cayden so impassive? What led him to this uncommon way of feeling? If asked, Cayden doesn’t have a clear answer, his persona is a combination of many things. Masculinity is definitely a part of it, Cayden’s father installed many toxic notions in Cayden about masculinity. He has been healing, but this lack of emotion and then way of dealing with it may be a result of what he was taught and then how he has chosen to heal. Now to his relationship with Elliot, a guy who has not found a healthy way to express his harder emotions (you can go to Elliot’s page to see how they met). Cayden is aware that his strategy is not for everyone, so he is slowly encouraging Elliot to open up and talk about what he is holding back. Cayden has held a crying Elliot in his arms before, stroking the other man’s hair to comfort him. He cares deeply about Elliot and each step Elliot takes to healing fills Cayden’s heart with passion and joy. From Elliot, Cayden gets to experience impulsiveness, adventure, time to stray from habits. Elliot brought an unpredictable joy to Cayden’s life that he didn’t know he was lacking. Elliot is in a mood to try to make a crazy dessert from a baking show he watched? Cayden would never think to try by himself but would love to try with his boyfriend and ends up greatly enjoying it. Elliot is one of the few people who can make Cayden laugh out loud, and a small smile is often seen on Cayden’s face when they are together.
