Profile

Garun is an old, craggy blue dragon of large size; his scales and outline are so rough and angular that he could quite easily pass for an outlandish rock feature when lying down were it not for his blue-grey tint. His voice is broad and deep, with the softly cultured tones of a dragon who has lived long and read much, but his observant eyes are still the piercing ice blue of a predatory beast. He has broad, triangular wings that he rarely uses; he requires a running start to take off and is very clumsy in the air, but has tremendous endurance and can stay aloft for days (basically; a big goose). Garun does not have manual dexterity in his fore or hind feet, and usually picks things up with his mouth. Temperament: Mild, intellectual, some low-key snark and a little aristocratic arrogance. May show a glimpse of a burning temper now well contained.

Breath: Garun has for the most part lost his lightning breath. He long ago found a way to redirect its magical energy to increase his ability to cast spells, and can no longer use it as a breath weapon. He can still pulse an electrical charge through his body, but it takes several seconds to charge up and instantly grounds itself if he is touching anything other than air. It's not very powerful and serves more as a deterrent or a distraction.

Magic: Garun's magic these days is mostly utility-focused. He uses spells to augment his night vision, to breathe underwater, to change his colour or appearance with illusion, that sort of thing. However he is capable of greater magic, if given enough time. To cast spells he uses a combination of whispered speech and strange gaseous glowing breath to draw sigils in the air or on the ground (this is what his lightning breath has become). For some spells he may require components, which are usually earth-based such as crystals and salts. Garun has extensive knowledge of utility, elemental, and the... darker... types of spells but lacks any grasp of healing magic. It is something he is very interested in acquiring knowledge of.

History: Garun has left his past behind him. His intentions are, surprisingly, to find and help those in need. His help is offered, almost begrudgingly, to those who are in peril or who are smaller than him and can be aided by his strength or knowledge. He keeps his reasons for this strange active altruism close, but a past he'd rather stay hidden lies within the spoiler below:

Kesskarzal the Cold-Eyed King ruled a far away chunk of territory for over one hundred years: A merciless, highly intelligent tyrant over all who were smaller and weaker than their huge, magic-wielding master. All submitted to him, his wealth and power grew with the fear of those under his will. One day, however, the Cold-Eyed King met one whose frailty and kindness showed him that what he understood of true strength was a lie. The pettiness of his actions, the understanding of the suffering he'd caused were revealed to him. Shamed, he abandoned his kingdom to live in isolation for many years. Eventually he found that his past deeds weighed on him too heavily, and he resolved to bring what little balance he could to his mark on the world. Flying out across the sea and away from those who know him as the Cold-Eyed King, he began a journey to new lands where none... or hopefully none... knew the dragon he had once been.
