About

36425990_TB3y2Gr7ErnAu0B.jpg

Vanai is a minor goddess who has travelled the stars alongside a small but dedicated group of Falidari after their original homeworld was destroyed in a great catastrophe. They were dragged into a larger fleet of more hostile ships, but were able to disengage and defect when it encountered an inhabited planet. Vanai's people have remained in orbit since, settling down on one of Senti's moons, and Vanai has quite happily gotten to know the local deity.

Personality

Vanai is calm and level-headed, good at reining in her emotions in the face of adversity. She's just beginning to relax after spending a few short but dangerous millennia shepherding her followers through a dangerous period of living and working alongside the Orsinx. Her patience ultimately paid off, allowing her to guide her Falidari away from the Orsinx just as they were losing their war with the peoples of Senti, which finally freed both them and herself from following the tyrannical Ora.

She has grown quite close to Aisenn, the goddess local to Senti, since her defection. Senn's playful nature has brought a lot of joy to her life, and with her people safe to settle again, she isn't as afraid to spend time away from closely watching them.

History

Vanai is a younger deity, having coaelesced in the Higher Planes only six rotations ago. The petty infighting in the realm above exhausted her, even at a young age, so she descended into the physical planes to search for a calmer place to exist in peace.

She soon settled within the Aiouran universe, on a planet that orbited a binary star system. Here she played with manipulating the environment and pushing life to evolve once she'd established optimal conditions, a process that, over a few eons, gave rise to the Falinari, a sapient species of horned, feline being. Vanai followed their development with delight, nudging them in the right direction whenever they got off track, and soon they were exploring the space around the planet and making their first interplanetary trips.

Their relative peace was disrupted when the Orsinx fleet arrived in their system. The Orsinx were a humanoid race micromanaged by an acrid deity known as Ora, and they had a habit of plundering any planet with available resources to fuel their eternal march to feed Ora the magic found at the hearts of worlds inhabited by deities. Fearing both her peoples' destruction and her own, Vanai made a deal with Ora, offering the planet if her people could only build a fleet and preserve their world's native life in it.

Ora allowed this. It had been a long flight, the Orsinx were running low on fuel, and not needing to fight a war to continue on their way was advantageous.

For at least six millennia, Vanai and her Falinari travelled with the Orsinx fleet. They possesed five of colony ships and a thousand fighters, managing to save about a million people and over 300 species, most of which were preserved in stasis. As Ora was the ultimate commander of the fleet, Vanai spent a lot of time bargaining with him over their courses of action; her ability to calmly talk him down from his famous rages was well-known and appreciated by Falinari and Orsinx alike.

And then the fleet found Senti, and began a war with the inhabitants. Vanai tried to keep the Falanari out of it as much as possible, but some conflict was unavoidable. One Falanar managed to communicate with one of Aisenn's saenshi, which became a key to their escape-- as the twin demigods began to wreck havoc upon Ora's forces, the saenshi smuggled away on the Falanari ships, then infiltrated the Orsinx ships while wearing their faces. As Ora fled the planet's surface, the saenshi destroyed hundreds of Orsinx ships, sending what was left of the fleet fleeing for their lives.

And then Vanai and the Falanari were free to join the Sentan people and rebuild.

Current Day

Vanai spends most of her time within Celessani with Aisenn. The temple is comfortable, and she can reach her charges on the moon quite easily. She has no real intention of getting heavily involved in mortal affairs again for quite some time, but from time to time she does follow one of her Falinari into Terra to investigate the strange, futuristic world beyond the tear in reality.

Skills

Time Magic
Vanai's powers are tied to the concept of time. Her domain is the passage of time and the changes it brings, whether positive or negative. Like all gods, her magic radiates around her, and in large doses it has negative effects; those who stay too close for too long may end up ageing prematurely or crumbling to dust. These negative effects don't occur within the metaphysical realms in which she usually dwells.
Imbued Blood
Like the blood of all gods, Vanai's is a metallic golden liquid that is heavily imbued with her specific flavour of magic. Much like her aura, her blood causes time to progress faster for anything it touches. It can be used to create powerful healing spells and deadly curses.
Metaphysical Travel and Manipulation
Like most of her people, Vanai can travel through planes of reality above that of the physical; she can also generate and manipulate anything she desires within these higher spaces. Unlike many others, Vanai doesn't have her own "retreat"; she tends to stay with Aisenn instead.
Perception Manipulation
Vanai is capable of appearing to mortals in any chosen form. In most cases, her colouration and build remain the same, but there are exceptions, especially when becoming something like a human. As this power is perception-based, it doesn't function when recorded in photographs or video footage-- but what the camera sees is not what mortals see.

Relationships

Aisenn lover
The goddess of her new home, who Vanai eventually kindled a romantic relationship with. Senn has never been anything but kind and understanding, if prone to teasing, and has done a great deal to make Vanai feel like she belongs. She spends most of her time living in Senn's temple, creating new things with her and keeping a watchful eye on their people.
