"Tell me, dear... have you ever been hunting before? Perhaps one day the Veilleux family will take you to our hunting grounds soon enough. Eventually when you visit, you'll find a rather interesting phenomenon. The contrasts between animal and human are quite miniscule. A small limit of resources causes them to right and it all ends the same way:

The weak will lose to the strong.

Humans are pursuing the limited wealth, the high positions, the honor and the glory just like how animals are in pursuit for food. Such things are unavoidable; you will see it soon enough.

Men show off status while women show off beauty and knowledge. Such things... is just a mating ceremony between two creatures. It's just more complicated than the other animals in the forest.

Ah, I see that I'm rambling off again. I'll go ahead and wander off, dear. I don't want to keep you away from enjoying the party."

Strengths

A vampire has it's benefits; they're stronger, quicker, and more resilient than the regular man. Not to mention, a lifespan that allows them to age almost forever. His hunting prowess gives him a keen eye on his target(s). He's had that even before he turned to a Vampire.

Educated and lived in Belvar longer through several generations of changes; he's basically lived through the history.

Whenever Duke Grimbald isn't in Belvar (which is plenty of times), the Belvarian Army listens to the House of Veilleux. His great-great-great (x4 and so forth) grand children lead the Guardsmen and let them do as they please, but Henri is the one to make the more important decisions.

One of the oldest nobles in Belvar; even though he doesn't keep up with all the latest trends - he still knows how to play the Game and understand the social protocols.

Flaws

Military isn't his strongest point. In fact, the Zane is considered the weakest house when it comes to militaristic power. But Cailan makes up for the lack of soldiers with his intellectual mindset in political affairs, but as well as being connected with many powerful individuals outside of the city.

Being a Vampire has its faults. He gets the occasional cravings of feeding on a human and it's something he can't resist. Many vampires look down on humans, but not Henri. Unfortunately most humans will become fearful of his presence in a casual setting, noble or not. The sun is also a particular weakness but being in the sun doesn't immediately trigger his death - he's just develops the same symptoms as a normal human catching a seasonal cold for a long while before it starts to burn him.

Skills & Abilities

Life of a Vampire
Minus the overwhelming cravings of feeding on blood on occasional events, he's stronger than the normal mortal. Quick on his feet, agile, a keen sense of sight and hearing, and most especially being physically stronger. He can fight off hundreds of people with just his bare hands until he becomes fatigued. Unfortunately, Veilleux is no mage like the Duke so he cannot turn into a bat or hide in the shadows.

Seasoned Hunter
He's been an avid hunter since he's a young teen. And he cannot part with such a hobby. Veilleux understands and studies his prey before he takes action. He is quick (and equally accurate) with the bow and even faster with a knife. Being a hunter also gives him the benefit of being able to hide himself away easily - stealth would be his true skill.

Military Prowess
Aside from a hunter, he's also spent his adult years as a knight for the Cathal army before the Vampiric War took place. After being turned, he followed behind Grimbald and settled his home in Belvar. Because of his deeds as a splendid knight, the King bestowed him a noble title and granted him a wealthy lifestyle. Otherwise, he knows how to fight, and he understand military tactics like the back of his hand. This also grants him the ability to command the Belvarian Guardsmen... or not much nowadays. Regardless, he had proof to have power to control them.

Trivia

  • The Patriarch and founder of the Veilleux bloodline.
    > He's not as active regarding diplomatic affairs, attending balls, or even caring much for politics. Despite having the title of Patriarch, he always hands "most" of the control to any of the relatives that is the most capable.
    > Because of his status, he's still popular among nobles and everyone wants to grab his attention. He calls them out and embarrasses them if he becomes annoyed by them (he's tolerable, so it's rare if he does become irritated).
  • He is the leader of the Belvarian Guardsmen.
    > Technically he isn't. Whenever Duke Grimbald is present in the city, the power of the Guardsmen is transferred to him. Fortunately, Grimbald is always absent.
    > He lets his grandchildren and generations after him take control of the Guardsmen for him. However, if he finds out that anyone of his relatives uses their noble title to take advantage over regular Belvarian citizens (with the use of the Guardsmen) then he will immediately take away their privileges.
  • Not pureblood vampire, he was turned.
    > Even his powers isn't as fully developed as Duke Grimbald (who is also a turned vampire), hence he's physically weaker if he were to combat against the Duke.
  • Because of the Guardian of the Grand Forest nearby Belvar and Cathal, he can't freely hunt in those forests. However, he's created his own small hunting grounds overtime.
    > It won't stop him from hunting in the Grand Forest. In fact, the Guardian will allow him to hunt there for his own appeasement but very very limited on what he can hunt.
  • Not necessarily fond with close combat, and he prefers to fight with the bow and arrow.
  • Has had a wife, but she was human and passed away long time ago. He's remained single since because he still mourns for her.
    > All of his children are human; no person in the family generations after have been born a vampire at all.
  • Despite the popularity, he still finds himself a bit lonely.

Summary

Henri Veilleux has been a diligent figure since he was a child. His family, though middle classmen, he actively found himself working to please his parents. Eventually he found himself taking a liking to accompanying his father as a hunter to take home food and even sell them to upkeep a manageable amount of money.

The older he grew, he decided to take part of Cathal's army. Especially up to the events of the Vampiric War, he joined the army to not only obtain glory, but more for the safety of his family.

However, during the fight, him and the other milita were ambushed and overwhelmed by vampires. And Veilleux, was struck and eventually turned into one of them. It was only fortunate that the process of him being turned happened towards the end of the Vampiric War and his life was spared with the plead of his leader, Alphonse - who also turned.

Veilleux was gifted a noble title to if he were to live in Belvar to repopulate and reconfigure the city after the bloody war. Unfortunately, because of his Vampiric state, his family strayed away from him because they were afraid of getting their blood sucked away by Henri.

Henri accepted it, but he eventually found himself infatuated by a beautiful woman that was happy to bear his children. And since he made his own family, he'd did anything to keep his city safe. He was a popular, powerful nobleman that demanded only the best of his people. Eventually he became second in command to the Belvarian Guardsmen that was created as soon the city bean to develop.

But after his wife's passing, Henri continued to work as diligent as he was before. But as decades began to pass and each child, grandchild and soforth began to wither away, he began to lose the motivation to keep working. Instead, he's decided to pass on most of the power to the younger generation of his House and watched over the city with his own eyes.... quietly.

The Heroes of Belvar

Veilleux, despite being one of the longest living noblemen in Belvar, he is not the most powerful. But he is the only nobleman that could rival against Alabaster's army if the city were to go into civil war.

Henri knows about Alabaster's crude plans. But unfortunately he fails to take action until the Heroes of Belvar told him about his relatives' doings with the Belvarian Guardsman. He never realized it himself, but he demanded that his relative to withdraw the troops before the city would go up in flames.
Afterwards, he continues to help supports the heroes in the shadows until Lucien used his powers to outcast Alabaster out of the city.

Veilleux felt inspired through the actions of the Heroes and decided that he will come back to taking control of the Guardsmen - rather embarrassed of his relative's previous actions - and wanted to use them for the betterment of the overall city, without making any brash decisions. And soon enough Henri claims that he'll come back into living into his lonely cage once again.

Unfortunately he and his guardsman will clash with the Underruler and the people of the Underworld. Despite that they've gone a spectacular job upkeeping justice in the city, he feels like his work is being taken away and is often on the search for Azrael.

Relationships

Alphonse

[ Superior ]

Alphonse is only just a few years older than him, but regardless he is a vampire just like him. A loyal advocate towards the King and the Royal bloodline, he is given control to Belvar... only when he is there. Unfortunately the Gatekeeper job keeps him from watching over the city, hence the Guardsman is transferred over to Henri.

Veilleux respects Duke and has little to nothing to say against him. Despite that they've known each other for years, it's hard for Henri to identify him as a friend.

Azrael

[ Rival ]

Veilleux sees Azrael as something charming, heroic, and very much an amusement to watch. Unfortunately people like him will not last long in the end. Since he came back to taking full control of the Belvarian guards, he wants to make sure that Cagliostro will be found and taken to prison.

Basically, Henri believes that the Underworld is unnecessary to the city. The vampire is confident that the Guardsman will do better work than what Azrael has created to create peace and justice into the city. It's a shame that they learned how to fight back... peacefully.

Count Alabaster [WIP]

[ Rival ]

Alabaster constantly judges his overall individuality based on him being a vampire... and Henri is rather displeased with it. There are several things that this Count has done to anger the vampire, hoping that he will gather the Guardsmen and start a war with his own army.

He clearly knows of Alabaster's plans quite well, and he remains quiet and allows the man to constantly talk down on him.

Culus

[ Friend ]

Veilleux knows about the twins since they were born, and at least one of them would visit their house quite often to make good relations. Despite that he respects Caelan greatly, he finds himself in even better relationships with Culus. Although not lovers, he has accompanied him in bed a couple of times. But more importantly, Zane has made his accompany better by enjoying their conversations both public and private.

He finds Culus as a friends with benefits, but otherwise nothing more than that. Culus's duties doesn't allow him to visit Henri so often.
