A Mind tainted by Demons
"I'll take the first seat. And I'll do it without Kaviar!"
Kimiko is the daughter of Soma & Erina, as well as the titular protagonist of the fanfiction "Shokugeki no Kimiko". She is an aspiring, young chef who has been cooking in her family's diner ever since she's young. Recently Kimiko has made her transfer to Totsuki Academy, albeit a little reluctantly.
As everyone else in her family, Kimiko is exceptionally passionate over cooking. The Yukihira diner is the most important place on earth to her and she is not the slightest bit afraid to admit to that. Being the spirited chef that she is, Kimiko does come to appreciate the battleground that Totsuki provides her with and she makes friends and rivals alike on this school. At the same time, the extravagance and poshy nature of the school often feels suffocating to her. She plans on conquering it, without forgetting her roots in the process.

Personality
At heart Kimiko is a cheerful and optimistic young girl who never learned about the two words "giving up". She's from a humble but excellent diner in Tokyo and grew up in a very loving and light-hearted enviroment. There was always something for Kimiko to smile about and to this day, it's rare to meet her in anything but a good mood. Kimiko does possess a fair share of socialising skills and knows very well how to approach people and how to talk to them. However, there is some introvert tendencies to her. Back at her home, she was known to only have one true friend in Tadao Moto, while barely ever interacting with any of her other classmates. She was also famous for cancelling social gatherings such as karaoke nights or going to the cinema, as she rather chose to stay in her restaurant to help out there.
Kimiko is greatly dedicated to her craft and aspires to take over her family's diner someday. She is always eager to learn something new about cooking and improve her skills. But her being as consumed by cooking as she is was also what made her neglect her social life back at home. This changes on Totsuki though, given the fact that this school is filled with people who have the same enthusiasm about cooking as she does. She finds it easier to truly forge longer-lasting connections on these school grounds.
Kimiko is known to be very confident in her skills and always eager to show them off. She is not one to back away from challenges and most of the time rather takes them on with thrilled glee. When cooking, she becomes serious and focused, determinded to put out the best dish she possibly could. A great inspiration to Kimiko is her mother, who's taste sense is extraordinarily sensitive and can take note of even the smallest mistake. Erina Yukihira has been criticizing her daughter's dishes from the very beginning on. But her mother's honesty only encourages Kimiko further to cook up a dish someday that her mother would consider truly flawless.
Kimiko is very proud of her diner-origins and shows no shame for her humble upbringing even when surrounded by the students of Totsuki who come from much more acclaimed and wealthy backgrounds. Kimiko shows little to no interest in Totsuki's pomp and circumstance and feels rather uncomfortable and weirded out in some of it's luxurious enviroments. At the same time, she will not tolerate any insult regarding her upbringing in any way. She can't stand to be underestimated and will gladly teach the people judging her by her humble background a lesson. On the other side though, she honestly tends to underestimate people herself and does in some way underestimate Totsuki as a whole. She arrives at the school with the firm mindset that the school won't be able to teach her anything new and that her experience of working in an actual kitchen puts her above the rest. Kimiko is so uninterested in Totsuki that she barely did any research on the school before going there. Which is why she finds herself confused on terms like "Shokugeki" and "The Elite Ten" in her first week. More than often names of famous chefs don't ring a bell in her head either.
When angered, Kimiko becomes scaringly calm and takes on a very sharp tone, sometimes even bordering condescendingness. She doesn't get angry all too often but insulting or threaten someone or something she cares about is a great way to let her anger show. She does have a natural, strong sense for justice and offers help to anyone who she thinks needs it. On Totsuki this however quickly results in a feeling of responsibilty to always be everyone's savior and rescuer in the last minute. The thought of being incapable of doing anything about a situation and ultimately feeling useless to people is something that scares her. She does tend to bottle those negatives emotions up however, more than often smiling her fear and insecurities away and saying something along the lines like "I'll solve this" despite having no idea how to. In the end, even her greatest enemies would admit to the fact that Kimiko certainly does not lack any guts.
In comparison to her older brother, Kimiko is a lot less chaotic and more prone to actually think her actions through. In fact, she more than often gets frustrated about her brother having his head in the clouds so many times. She also disapproves of her father's, brother's and grandfather's habit to feed their hideous creations to every poor soul walking by. While she experiments a lot herself, she would never force her failures onto others.
Ultimately, Kimiko is a very down-to-earth persona who is appreciative of the simple things in life. All she really wants is to keep cooking in her diner and continue making the people of Sumire Town happy.
Cooking-Style
She is the third generation practice of the so-called Yukihira-Style which she picked up from both her father and her grandfather.
Kimiko's greatest strength is creativity. While her style is rooted in Japanese Cuisine, she does often borrow from different types of cuisine and does a lot of fusion cooking. She makes usage of affordale ingredients and makes sure for her dishes to not look too alienating for any regular customer.
Out of all other cuisine-types aside from Japanese, Kimiko has always been the most interested in French cuisine. She made several French dishes in her free time throughout her youth already and even joins the French Cuisine RS on Totsuki.

Story
Childhood
Kimiko had a relatively normal childhood with it's ups and downs but nothing all too significant to note. She grew up in the Yukihira Diner and was raised by two loving parents, while always having her grandfather close at all times. Due to being almost partly raised in a kitchen, she is cooking from a very young age on and always was a great helping hand in the kitchen so much to the point to neglecting her social life. The only friend she made in the diner's enviroment is the son of Mayumi Moto, who occassionally babysit her and her big brother Hiraku.
"Shokugeki no Hiraku"
Kimiko has not much of a role in the spin-off story "Shokugeki no Hiraku", as she still visits the local school near Sumiredori Shopping District when her older brother Hiraku transfers to Totsuki. When he left to attend his new school, she gifted him a small embroidery of the symbol-flower of Sumiredori Shopping District that she asked Mayumi to do. Her idea behind it was to not make Hiraku forget about his roots once he enters the high-class school. When on Totsuki she occassionally calls him to check on him.
"Shokugeki no Kimiko"
Kimiko's transfer into the first year of Totsuki's highschool division marks the beginning of the fanfiction "Shokugeki no Kimiko". While not all too enthusiastic about it, she still goes along with her parent's and Alice's wishes and takes on the entrance exam hosted by her second cousin Lola Nakiri. She is the only one to make it through that and is therefore accepted on Totsuki.
On Totsuki she joins the Polar Star Dormitory as well as the French RS. For latter she also participates in her first Shokugeki against a representant of the Chinese RS, Takayuki Hojo. She wins her first Shokugeki and afterwards gets approached by her older brother, who transfered a year before her on Totsuki, Hiraku Yukihira. This is how the school finds out about them being related and immediately gains a lot of respect for Kimiko. Hiraku explains his plans to Kimiko. Apparently he has gotten tired of being a "no-name" and wishes for his home diner to transform into a restaurant pf presitge. He wants Kimiko to support him but she's shocked about what she heard and runs away.
Like all high school first years Kimiko has to attend the so-called Trainings Camp. On her first day she gets to attend the cooking class of Rui Kumai who's challenge is to cook something with either a yello and/or blue ingredient. Kimiko ends up in a little, unoffical face-off against Rui's son Itsuki. She wins undoubtedtly as she reaches a higher score than him. At the same time, she fails to acknowledge Mika Aldini's challenge and is stunned to find out later on that Mika was capable to achieve the exact same score as her, making the two the best participants of the class. In the evening Kimiko and the rest of Polar Star get to meet Mika's parents Takumi and Ikumi Aldini. The two first seem to react very shocked on Kimiko's presence but soon enough become social and friendly towards her making it a nice evening.
On her second day, Kimiko ends up in Miyano Akari's class who requests teamwork for her challenge. While first having troubles to find teammates, she finds a team in Takayuki Hojo and his friend Kazuo Mimasaka last-minute. Right as the three begin to discuss the question who will take over the main dish, the trio gets challenged by another trio with Emi Kusunoki having it's lead. The three accept Emi's challenge. After doing so, Kimiko suggests to settle the argument over who will handle the main dish via a game of Rock-Paper-Scissors. Kazuo wins and so Kimiko decides on taking care of the dessert. Through preprations, several disagreements come up within the team tensing their work-flow and making Emi confident of having victory in her bag already. Her teammate Itsuki is more anxious however and engages in a scheme to sabotage Kimiko's team. He triggers a short-tempered classmate into thinking Kazuo had jeered about him in secret. The livid classmate attacks Kazuo and destroys most of his dish in the process. Kimiko and Takayuki are quick to defend Kazuo however and before the classmate can cause much more trouble Miyano escorts him out of the room. In their efforts to get over this inconvinience Takayuki, Kazuo and Kimiko start to truly work together and are able to pass Miyano's challenge in the end. When Takayuki approaches Emi afterwards to inform her about their victory, Emi begins yelling at Kimiko that she does not know what's coming for her. In all of her frustration she reveals that the Boss of the organisation that most of Totsuki has dubbed "The Mafia" has his eyes on Kimiko.
When the 115th Generation has to face the Breakfast Challenge of Totsuki, Kimiko ends up in the same hall as Kaori Hayama. Before the evaluation of their work begins, Kimiko does present the very annoyed Kaori with a challenge. However once the challenge begins, Kimiko finds herself faced with a very lonely stand. Unfortunately Kimiko was assigned a stand right on the opposite side of the hall fom where Kaori's stand is. Kaori's dish draws almost all guests of the hall in, making it very hard for Kimiko to attract customers.
After analysing the strenghts and weaknesses of her dish, Kimiko comes to the conclusion that she has to make her breakfast more visually interesting. She ends up attracting a child with her revised dish, who later on also brings her family to the stand. More and more guests start to notice her and in the end, Kimiko is able to complete 200 portions and passes the Trainings Camp as a whole.
Back on Totsuki, Kimiko gets approached by Katashi Umino and Taichi Yamada who announce that they've come to pick her up and bring them to the "Boss", the head of Totsuki's Mafia. She ends up going along and is brought to Hall Chandra where she meets the so-called Boss, whose actual name is Shigeo Eizan. She also learns that her brother Hiraku is just about to have a Shokugeki against Ran Mimasaka, with Ran's 4th seat on the line.
Kimiko watches the Shokugeki from Shigeo's lounge and finds herself alienated watching her big brother, who doesn't even wear his restaurant uniform anymore. When Hiraku ends up winning, Shigeo brings up that Hiraku is a problem in his eyes and makes Kimiko the offer to side with him as he noticed how disapproving she is of Hiraku's pursue for fame and glory. Shigeo argues that if they cooperate, he'll get Hiraku back on the ground without hurting him in the process but in the same breath, he warns Kimiko that if she choses to not team up with him, she might get hurt herself.
After the break, Kimiko gets chosen for the Autumn Election Premlins by the Elite 10 Council.
Trivia
"Kimiko" can mean something in the sense of "noble child" or "empress child". It was suggested by Soma as a reference to Erina's status as queen of Totsuki back when he first met her. Her first name stands in contrast to what her surname means, as "Yukihira" can be roughly translated to "blessing of the ordinary". In a sense, Kimiko's name makes her out to be a child of nobility that grew up in the world of the ordinary however, or alternatively: "the people's princess".
Like her father and grandfather before her, Kimiko resides in room 303 of the Polar Star Dormitory.
Kimiko has a knack for buying souvenirs whenever she's in another country.
When at home, Kimiko likes to sit on the roof of her family's house from time to time whenever she's in need of some relaxation after the diner rush. Occassionally she also brings food, especially fish because then she can feed the stray cats.
Aside from cats, Kimiko also likes penguins a whole lot.
Kimiko's favorite toys as child were a teddybear named "Kichi" (Luck) and a plush Octopus named "Mr.Bubbles". She also owned a toy-knife.
Like her mom, Kimiko does read quite a lot of manga. Erina basically passed on her Shoujo-Manga-collection to Kimiko when she felt she was old enough. Kimiko later on finds herself leaning more towards the Shonen-Genre though, but will still pick up a Shoujo occasionally if the story sounds interesting enough to her.
Kimiko's favorite flowers are Gerberas.
Kimiko has a little radio on her own in her room which she tunes into every morning when she gets ready. She'll eventually also take it with her to Totsuki. Thanks to said radio she's always very updated on recent news.
When the weather is hot, there is nothing better for Kimiko than a Strawberry Milkshake!
Kimiko does not like wearing high-heels. She's not used to it and can barely walk with them.
Kimiko's favorite non-cooking related subject is Geography.
Related
Erina Yukihira
Erina is Kimiko's mother and while Kimiko was always close to both of her parents, her bond to her mother always ran a bit deeper. Her mother is usually the one for Kimiko to turn to when she seeks comfort. Another very notable factor of their relationship is that Kimiko aims to make a dish that will completely satisfy her mother's sensitive tongue, making Erina a key to Kimiko's motiviation and strive to get better. Erina always gives her honest critiques to Kimiko (though less brutally phrases than what she used to be known for) in support of her endeavours. Despite her painfully in-depth critiques, Erina is obviously very proud of her daughter and tends to brag about her and her growth to others (mainly Alice).
Soma Yukihira
Although being a tad bit closer to her mother, Kimiko is still very close to her father regardless. Often times their relationship reminds one more of best friends. They find many things to laugh about and also tease one another playfully over quite many things. But Soma has also been a great teacher to his daughter when it comes to cooking. Kimiko took over her father's and grandfather's cooking style, the so-called "Yukihira-Style", after all. Soma is much like Erina very confident in Kimiko's skills and sure that she is going to do greatly on Totsuki.
Hiraku Yukihira
Although Kimiko always used to be a little bit at odds with her older brother, who often entertained the idea that the one year that sets them apart makes him greatly superior in cooking, they still used to be very close. Despite the fact that Hiraku and his inherited "God-Tongue" were naturally talented while Kimiko mainly had to work and train for her skills on her own, Hiraku never belittled her for this which is why Kimiko in return also never became truly jealous or discouraged over this fact. They had their bickers for sure throughout their childhood and most of them were about Kimiko's frustration over Hiraku's chaotic mindset. But in the end, they always stood hand-in-hand against threats against their restaurant or their parents wanting to bring them to the dentist. On Totsuki however, things change. Kimiko is shocked to find out that her brother has apparently become ashamed of his humble backgrounds and therefore plans to re-shape their diner into a place more fit to Totsuki's regular standards. Hiraku wishes to have Kimiko on his side for his plans but she immediately refuses and runs away, marking a long period of conflict between the two siblings.
Joichiro Yukihira
Jouichiro was around ever since Kimiko was born and therefore often took care of her and her big brother. Often calling her "kiddo" while she calls him "old man", the two tease each other a lot and have a rather playful relationship with each other. Nevertheless, Kimiko recognizes how skilled her grandfather is and will always listen to his advice in cooking.
Alice Nakiri
Kimiko had always been a bit overwhelmed with Alice's constant displays of what felt like a different world to her, a world full of luxeries and wealth. Often times Kimiko did not really know how to accept all the expensive gifts Alice kept giving her. Sometimes she also thought of her aunt's antics to be a bit exhausting. Regardless of that, she does love Alice a lot and Alice quickly turns into one of Kimiko's greatest support-systems once she is on Totsuki. She always has an open ear for Kimiko's problems and watches out for her niece from a far.
Ryo Kurokiba
As Ryo is not very communicative in general, there's not all too much conversation done when the two are together. But paired with Alice's extrovertedness, Kimiko does greatly appreciate the calmness of Ryo in contrast. When she was younger, she asked him a lot about fish and Ryo is there to help out his niece when needed as well.
Lola Nakiri
Kimiko tends to be annoyed by Lola's antics and wild ideas. Sometimes she finds herself exhausted after spending time with her. But despite that, there is certainly a close bond between the two. They're very loyal towards each other. But with both of them being as challenge-enthusiastic as they are, they also have a slight rivarly in their strive to get better and better. Of course Kimiko is not free of Lola's constant teases towards everyone either, but she knows how to playfully shoot back.
Mona Nakiri
Compared to her twin sister Lola, Mona is a lot more relaxing to be around and Kimiko greatly appreciates her calm company to level out the energetic Lola. Kimiko is one of the few people Mona is a bit more open around as the two naturally trust each other. They get along well, but neither Mona nor Kimiko would back away from a little duel with one another to sharpen each other's skills.
Mayumi Moto
Mayumi used to take care of Hiraku and Kimiko back when they were younger a lot. As she is a regular in the diner, Kimiko and Hiraku got to see her a lot and naturally grew close to her. She's another person in Kimiko's life that she knows she can turn to for advice or just a nice chat to comfort herself
Tadao Moto
Tadao and Kimiko are childhood friends who grew up together and were very close from day one on. Before Totsuki times, Tadao used to be Kimiko's very only friend as she found herself troubled interacting with her other classmates. The two trust each other and are very loyal towards one another, but Tadao often finds himself a little annoyed with Kimiko keeping herself out of the social life of their old school at all cost. He often tries to motivate her to join into whatever their classmates have planned for the day.
Hiroshi Aldini-Tadokoro
Hiroshi is the first person Kimiko truly gets to know on Totsuki. They met in Madoka Enomoto's class and paired up. Later Kimiko found out that Hiroshi stays at the same dorm as she does. Due to Hiroshi's gentle and kind nature, Kimiko quickly grows to like him. Hiroshi on the other hand is amazed by Kimiko's skills and talents while also being fond of her cheerful personality. He has troubles keeping up with Kimiko's quick decisions and reacts shocked when he hears about her Shokugeki with Takayuki Hojo. But he does try to support and assist her whenever he can. Next to that, he's the calm regulator between her and his cousin Mika Aldini. While often worrying over all the fights she keeps getting herself pulled into, he still admires her greatly and wishes her all the best. What Hiroshi doesn't know is that Kimiko is just as amazed by him the other way around.
Kaori Hayama
Kaori and Kimiko's relationship did not start on a very good note. Kimiko got to meet Kaori after she gave her speech at the entrance ceremony on the first day of school. Kaori immediately asked if Kimiko is Hiraku's sister and after she got the confirmation, she went on to tell Kimiko that there is no way that Kaori will give up her current first place within the 115th Generation to her. Kaori generally seems to greatly dislike Kimiko, even showing up to Takayuki's Shokugeki against her to see her possibly getting defeated. She also acts more cold towards her than to the rest of the student-body. Kimiko is very confused by the hostility out of seemingly nowhere and thinks of Kaori as very strange. But she makes no attempt to get on Kaori's better side but rather aims to defeat the girl in a match, so she gets off her haughty throne.
Mika Aldini
Mika is Kimiko's self-procclaimed rival but at the same time also her second friend to make on Totsuki after Hiroshi (despite Mika often denying a friendship between them). Kimiko's entrance speech greatly enraged Mika, as she didn't like to be told that rich children apparently have no actual kitchen experience. Immediately eager to prove her wrong, Mika challenged Kimiko to a future Shokugeki in the very moment she found out Kimiko is staying at her dorm. Kimiko actually finds herself quickly growing fond of Mika's fiery personality and in Trainings Camp she truly recognizes Mika's skills and potential as competent rival. While the two are definitely very competitive with one another, they do also begin to care about each other greatly.
Chieko Marui
Chieko becomes a sort-off go-to for Kimiko to seek out whenever she needs questions answered. Wether it's any factual questions, information on Totsuki or whatever, Chieko is usually able to provide and sometimes even offers explanations before Kimiko can even ask the question. Chieko thinks Kimiko is extremely hard to predict and often reacts surprised to many of Kimiko's decisions. Chieko does support her nevertheless and Kimiko enjoys Chieko's company just as much, despite sometimes having to go through some scolding-sessions.
Yasu Ibusaki
Yasu is a relaxing companion for Kimiko within the energetic, bubbly Polar Star. His politeness, calmness and gentleness is appealing to most people and Kimiko is no exception. She likes talking to him and he does enjoy her company in return as well. Given that he is very helpful in general, he is also quick to offer her help with smoking or his fermentation products.
Hideyoshi Kawashima
In the beginning Hideyoshi shows great interest in Kimiko's possible relationship to Hiraku and even has a bet with Daisuke about that going on. Despite Hideyoshi's constant display of arrogance and feeling of superiority, he can't help but to acknowledge the skills that Kimiko possesses. The two don't share the closest relationship, but they get along well and as members of Polar Star they're loyal to each other.
Daisuke Aoki
Much like Hideyoshi, Daisuke is curious over Kimiko's relationship to Hiraku and also has a bet about it going on, which he looses once it's revealed that Kimiko and Hiraku are in fact siblings. Kimiko and Daisuke end up being friends and Kimiko was also ready to defend him from Takayuki's snarls during a Shokugeki. Daisuke is greatly astonished by Kimiko's skills but also worries easily about some of her decisions.
Takayuki Hojo
Takayuki is the first person for Kimiko to have a Shokugeki with. Takayuki underestimated her, which angered Kimiko and lead to her defeating him in said Shokugeki. Despite their relationship starting rather roughly, Kimiko does acknowledge his dish when tasting it and tells him she hopes they can meet in a better way next time. Their next time happens in Trainings Camp, where they team up together with Kazuo Mimasaka. Takayuki can't deny Kimiko's skill but is still rather bitter over his defeat and hopes he can take her on a second time in the future. As Kimiko starts being friendly to him, their rivarly is overall of a more chill nature.
Kazuo Mimasaka
Kimiko is a bit weirded out by Kazuo first when they met in Trainings Camp. Kazuo however offered her to team-up so she would be save from expulsion. His reasoning for that was, that she's a friend of Mika and he can't let a friend of Mika's expelled. He remains on friendly terms with her, always being kind to her while she learns to appreciate him more real quick.
Akio Hayama
Akio treats the little sister of Hiraku with great respect, often giving her the same treatment of royalty that he gives to Hiraku. It's something that Kimiko does not appreciate at all and she often asks him to stop. She's generally very weirded out by Akio's undying loyalty to Hiraku and confused over all his praises towards him and how he doesn't seem to mind Hiraku's chaoticness in any way.
Shigeo Eizan
Shigeo has taken notice of Kimiko's disapproval regarding Hiraku's chase for fame and glory. He offered her to team up with him in order to bring Hiraku back to the ground. Kimiko is very wary of Shigeo and does not plan to side with him. She also thinks he is kind-off weird, dislikes his showy nature and interacting with him quite frankly exhausts her. Shigeo did warn her that if she does not side with him, she might become a target herself. He does also pronounce however that this isn't because of a personal dislike for Kimiko, but just because she happens to be the sister of one of Shigeo's main enemies.
Ran Mimasaka
Ran offers Kimiko assistance when she seeks the Elite's help to get Hiroshi into the Autumn Elections. Kimiko is surprised by the genuine kindness and understanding Ran meets her with, despite her brother stealing Ran's seat, and quickly grows fond of her. Ran meanwhile voices respect for Kimiko's iron will to help her friend out.
Harumi Tsujimoto
Kimiko gets to meet Harumi as she joins the French RS. Her cooking skills greatly impressed the president and she's proud to have Kimiko around, despite not really saying it aloud a lot. While Harumi does have her fits of anger over Kimiko occassionally not listening to her, Kimiko is not very intimidated by her and always finds a way to calm her down none or less. Harumi appreciates Kimiko as member and Kimiko finds Harumi to be very entertaining but also holds quite a lot of genuine liking for her as well.
Kenshin Maeda
Kenshin greatly admires Kimiko from the day on when he tasted her dish as she joined French RS. Kimiko herself, finds him to be adorable and gladly offers help whenever he asks for it.
Satoshi Isshiki
First a little bit weirded out by Satoshi's slight eccentricness, she does learn to appreciate him rather quickly and gets impressed by his cooking at breakfast. Satoshi shows himself ecstatic over Kimiko's entrance into Polar Star and is eager to make her feel welcome and in caring hands. He has a good eye on her and is always quick to offer advice when he feels she needs it, while also fondly watching her improve each and every day.
Madoka Enomoto
Madoka is Kimiko's teacher and the first one on Totsuki to get a taste of her skills. Madoka is quick to recognize her potetnial, as well as her surname but keeps quiet about it. She greatly appreciates Kimiko's presence in her class and Kimiko appreciates Madoka as teacher in return. Kimiko is definitely one of Madoka's favorite students aside from Hiroshi and Chieko.
