Profile
“Firdaus”
Alone is he who was made to serve a purpose, alone is he who left to find purpose outside the halls of imprisonment and met with and empty soundscape of white noise instead. Alone is he who lives his empty, unfulfulling existence, tenacious grip on the dying art of onomancy slipping and pulsating as he wonders, “what good is a name with no one to hear it?”.
“Onomancy”
lit. “name prophecy” — no. 363
- a form of divination derived from the parts of a name, including sounds, syllables, letters, and strokes used to assemble the name
- (demonology) the goetic practice of invoking a demon’s true name to bind its will
A fallen angel, an omen from a higher power: Firdaus’s reclusive nature, bizarre thought patterns, and cryptic presence all substantiate these rumors against him. However, Nosy and gregarious, Firdaus’s tricksterly persona is far from the image of fear and terror implied by wickedness.

”Almost but not quite” seems to have been the motto of whichever twisted overseer forcefully molded Firdaus into what he is. Like a Crystal Palace bastardation of iguanodon, Firdaus resembles a bastardization of a paralogos. Behind his pen-nib beak sit three pinprick-glowing eyes, catlike gold irises on pitch-black sclera, sully his smattered face. Opposite his pair of imposing, bladelike goat horns point maxillaries not unlike daggers, bestowing unto him a wicked overbite.
His thick, gargantuan tail drags behind, trailing an evaporating, inky liquid with every lonely step.

Magic: Neophyte
Neophyte
Possesses an attribute or minor effect loosely associated with their word.
- The lights and ink markings on Firdaus’s tail move as if they were liquids affected by gravity.
- The fin membrane can freely change in content and length like a scroll that’s being rolled up or down.
- The mouth and the nib on the tail tip can emit an inky substance that disappears after a short while.
His ability to trail a false, inky substance that evaporates after a short while was the first of his magic to develop. Firdaus’s “spit” is the same thick, stygian liquid appearing on his body; however, drooling any of this does not seem to alter the patterns formed by his inky underbelly. The same liquid is trailed by the pen nib at the tip of his tail; however, just like with his “spit”, trailing ink from his tail does not seem to affect the patterns on his body.
Ink markings on Firdaus’s body appear as though they were a liquid sloshing across the surface of its body; the lights within act as though suspended in the same false, viscous ink. Spatter markings frequently shift around the point where back and underbelly meet. His “ink” behaving like this was the second of his magical abilities to develop and the first tip-off to others that another wicked paralogos had come into being.
The third and final tier one magical ability Firdaus metamorphisized was his fin membrane developing into something not unlike a length of parchment. Its length and contents vary with Firdaus’s mood. In that way, Firdaus can be a bit of an open book, as his unfiltered thoughts are sometimes displayed on his crest membrane.

A phone book? A calligraphy kit? An address book??? These technically fulfil the requirement of transformation yet don’t feel in-character as something to risk death for...

Younger Days
A burglar under the veil of night finds one too many treasures.
Like many other blanks, Firdaus was a petty thief in some of his earliest days. Purloining books (and returning them later to avoid terrible suspicion) was no easy task, especially in areas as closely-guarded as those near his cradle. With the help of an older, wiser thief, the two break into an eccentric hodge-podge library and begin to thumb through a collection of the deceased while the residents below ponder what the noises above mean.
