Profile
Gabriel is the archangel of revelation and prophecies, often working as a messenger from Heaven to Earth. He has a friendly disposition, but is quick to anger when people disrespect him.
In La saison des doryphores, Gabriel is also known for having saved Isabelle and Ismaël after their train accident. He gets along particularly well with the latter.
About
Overview
Gabriel is the second most respected archangel in Heaven, right after his brother Michel. Just like all his brothers, he is seen as a prince there and is a role model to many angels, especially the ones who find Michel too intimidating. Gabriel is appreciated for his charismatic and confident personality. He is additionally known for being refined and sociable.
Still, despite Gabriel's delicate appearance, he reveals himself to be physically strong. He doesn’t even carry a weapon around; his bare hands are enough. Enough to beat anyone at arm wrestling, or tear a building down. Because of that, it is advised to be respectful, or at least nice to him if one doesn't want to have to face retribution. Even when he seems to be talking nonsense! Especially when he seems to be talking nonsense. Gabriel is pretty quick to anger if the message he delivers is not taken seriously.
Gabriel is an angel of low empathy. He has little consideration for the individual feelings of people, and his words can be brutal or harsh when needed – at least for human standards. For angelic standards, he is simply direct and prefers to look at the grand scheme of things (or as he calls it, “God’s plan”) rather than consider people's individual feelings. When people comment about it, he is rather unapologetic.
Another thing Gabriel is unapologetic about is his looks. He collects pretty dresses and of course deeply enjoys wearing them. And everyone agrees he has the face and attitude to match!
Gabriel also has a rather high-pitched voice, is the shortest among his brothers, and is good at singing-- only his rebel brother Heylel is a substantial competitor when it comes to this.
Just like his brother Michel, Lumirel originally designed Gabriel to be a female archangel; as opposed to his brother, though, he realized and expressed his desire to transition much later, not without fear that people would accuse him of copying Michel for no reason. Thankfully, nobody did that. As all angels have rather androgynous faces and body shape, his transition was only social.
Besides dresses, Gabriel also collects stamps and is sometimes found daydreaming while browsing through his albums. He also loves flowers (his favourite ones being white lilies) and children. Still, he is quickly annoyed when people mistake him for a babysitter.
In La saison des doryphores
Gabriel is, like his brothers, an archangel who lives not-so-secretly among humans in the town of Hijacque-les-Bois. More exactly, he works there as a freelance mailman. His services are very appreciated in times of war, as people know the mail they give him will be delivered quickly and safely.
Although friendly to humans, Gabriel isn’t affiliated with anyone besides his brothers and his behaviour can sometimes be uncanny. When he has free time, he enjoys strolling around town and relaxing at the local well. Here on Earth, there would be big chances strangers would mistake him for a girl, but everyone already knows him around town. Gabriel doesn’t get to see strangers often and thus forgot how misleading his looks can be. He is still slowly becoming self-aware of the confusion they can create, and is weirded out by the restricted gender roles of humans. Don’t angels commonly wear robes and dresses regardless of gender?
One day, during his morning routine, he saw the burnt remains of a train in the middle of the neighboring field. He looked around and could only see two survivors: a pair of unconscious teens. Gabriel naturally brought them back to town; surely his brother Raphaël could do something for them.

Trivia
- Gabriel tends to prefer dresses in pastel and/or muted colours over flashy ones, and generally prefers to cover a lot of skin, including most if not all of his arms and legs, and absolutely no cleavage whatsoever. Although he is quite feminine in his presentation, that does not mean anything goes; clothing that is too hyper-feminine or mature would make him uncomfortable.
- Despite his liking for dresses, he would always go for the masculine version of uniforms or traditional outfits. Wearing something that is seen as exclusively feminine in these contexts would make him dysphoric.
- If he was human, he would be Amazigh, more specifically Kabyle.
- Gabriel, along with Michel and Raphaël, was originally designed in 2014 as a Binding of Isaac fan character. The three of them were made playable in a mod in which Gabriel starts with four soul hearts and the 'White Lily' item. Artwork from this era can be found here.
