Kisumi is a kemonomimi, who in his world coexist with regular humans, and only have animal traits such as ears and tails as a result of genetic mutation. It all began when someone wanted a designer baby that could have improved human abilities, so they injected their child with DNA from animals that coded for desired traits, such as advanced hearing and sense of smell. However, the result was the growth of animal ears instead of human ears, and the gene mutation was passed along, creating a subspecies of humans eventually.
