Ruthless efficiency. Pragmaticism. A sharp mind, and an even sharper blade. Domination and authority, the will to subordinate those beneath you for the good of the company. These are the traits that life under Matsundai demands, for only the mighty make it into their ranks. The weak falter. They are insignificant. Unworthy.

The corporate realm is no place for vulnerability. Kill or be killed, rule or be ruled—do not fear leaving your ally for dead, as they would do the same to you if given the chance. There is one way to survive in this dystopian nightmare: eliminate the competition.

Personality

ANALYTICAL: Kameko does not permit the frivolities of emotion to cloud her judgment. Only logic guides her hand; perhaps cold, hard reasoning is not the best solution to every path in life, but it's the answer to most.

EFFICIENT: :When it comes to getting the job done, she always goes above and beyond. Operating on sheer logic allows her to overcome some of those pesky 'moral obstacles' that others performing the same task might face, and thoroughly eliminates the chances of any baggage getting in her way. It's not her job to deal with collateral damage or to clean up the aftermath.

DISLOYAL: Kameko pledges faithful allegiance to no faction; she does not follow orders due to believing in their power or capabilities, but rather because it merely suits her. When those she works for—or even with—fails to benefit her any further, she is swift to leave them for dead. In this world, it is dog eat dog. Others cannot, and should not, be relied on.

APATHETIC: There are few things left in Kameko's life that can inspire her. She has lost her taste for music. She cares not for literature or visual media. She prefers bland food; she'd live off of standard, synthetic rations if she could. The presence of others brings her no comfort—rather, a sense of unease and feeling terribly out of place.

She could not remember who she was.

She did not know if these memories were her own.

In the deepest throes of sleep, a heinous amalgamation of forgotten faces and warped images taunted her with the simple implication: she was not who they said she was. She was no longer an individual of her own making, but rather a chess pawn in a larger game beyond her comprehension. Matsundai ruled her life – her thoughts were theirs, her emotions, her opinions, even her own memories. They held the ultimate say. Their will was her command.

Story

She remembered falling.

Yes, she fell. She fell for a thousand days and a thousand nights.

The details of it remained a fuzzy haze, and no matter how hard she strained, she could not make sense of the dreamlike memory. She did not remember where she was, or whose face she saw, or the events leading up to the terrible accident where the pits of Tartarus itself reached up and swallowed her whole–

In her endless slumber, her dreams were plagued over and over by that moment. She could never gain her footing, forever damned to teeter on the edge of oblivion and plunge into the depths of hell—she grasped, grabbed, tore her arms out of socket in a desperate bid for anything to slow her descent, but everything was always a mere breath out of her reach, and her fingernails tore as she clawed at walls that were not there. The world came to an unnatural slow. The seconds turned into minutes, minutes into hours, and hours into days. Time lost all meaning. Reality was nonexistent.

She prayed to hit the ground. She begged for the mortal release of her body slamming into the pavement, but it never came. This must be purgatory, she thought. She had died, and this was her punishment.

And so she was condemned to eternal torment.

It repeated. Again. And again. And again, and again, and again and again and again and again–

Until it didn’t.

PAST

Every tool begins as the same piece of molten metal, and every blacksmith faces the same crossroad.

They may either make a sword meant to reap havoc, or they may craft the sickle that will sow the fields and bring forth life instead of death. The tool has no choice in the matter; it cannot fight against its purpose. The sword cannot fulfill the role of the sickle, and nor can the sickle act as a sword.

Kameko was molded as a weapon from birth. It was—and always would be—her destiny.

When the Matsundai academy opened its ranks, it welcomed only the strongest of cadets. The weak had no place there. They deserved to be crushed under the iron heel of the superior. Kameko understood this better than any other. Where the headmasters pointed, she followed—when they spoke, she carried out their will. Her competition stood no chance. They'd never pick that Chiba-born scum over her, and she knew it. Come the day of the final initiation trials, Kameko's assured victory was close enough for her to taste it—the culmination of her life's work.

But that day never came.

When Kameko should have reveled in the glory of a triumphant conquest, she instead found herself bloodied. Bruised. Broken. The heir of a great throne turned into a paralyzed cripple, clinging to life through artificial means and left a shallow husk of what once was—those who previously championed her, now left her for dead. 'A waste of resources'. 'A failed prodigy'. 'A pitiful stain to the family name'.

She lost her edge. She could fulfill no purpose. In a single, fleeting moment, Kameko became nothing.

PRESENT

And for a time, she remained nothing. The peers that had once admired her—envied her—forgot she ever existed. She was simply another one of the countless Matsundai students who would forever be remembered only by their shortcomings and eventual failures.

Kameko's failure, however, presented a new opportunity. Perhaps her original purpose was no longer achievable, but she could be given a new path to follow. Reforged. Behind closed doors and in hushed voices, Matsundai rebuilt her from the ground up and used her as a lab rat for the experiments contained within ancient studies. Broken bones were reinforced with titanium, crushed flesh made anew under the scalpel, pulverized vertebrae replaced by exoskeleton supports—piece by piece, she was remade, her blade sharpened once more.

The public was none the wiser to Matsundai's meddling, and upon Kameko's reintroduction to the waking world, it was as though she had always been destined to take over the contested security throne. And perhaps that holds truth. Kameko has, after all, proven to be Matsundai's perfect weapon.

Their wish is her command. Her obedience is unwavering. If they will it, she will see it done.

NETRUNNING

INTERFACING

Entering the NETSPACE at the deepest level possible. By entering a comatose state and becoming one with a cyberdeck, the user can access a visual representation of the NETSPACE. The NETSPACE consists of connected networks, nodules, and data fortresses. Typically used for illicit activities and is banned by a majority of countries.

Netrunning is an extremely dangerous undergoing. Netrunners not only run the risk of having their physical body be completely vulnerable and prone to sabotage, but also face opposition by NETWATCHERS and BLACK ICE. Few netrunners make it to old age, and most burn out long before they ever peak in their careers.

PHYSICAL PROWESS

BODY

One step above the rest.

Whether through genetic modification, body augmentation, or sheer will and dedication to harness the natural capabilities of one’s form, this individual is stronger, faster – and better – than the average. They pose a significant threat in close combat and could easily outbest the unprepared.

UNSTOPPABLE

BODY AND MIND

An unstoppable force meets an immovable object.

Through the effects of pain editors and brain chemical overrides, this character cannot be stopped by the typical limitations of the human body. For better or for worse, they can continue to fight on through severe physical damage and must be put down – completely – before they stay their hand.

Pain editors come with immense consequences and are not offset by increased healing capacities. The user must still contend with the effects of the injuries suffered by their body, including ruptured muscles and broken bones.

HEIGHTENED REFLEXES

BODY AND MIND

Increased reaction times and perception via reflex tuning. Allows the user to perceive and react to all of the world’s happenings far faster than average. Comes with the side effect of increased agitation and restlessness outside of combat scenarios. Some users complain of depression, anxiety, and other mental disturbances as a result of feeling as though everything in life moves too slow.

Most reflex tuning augmentations are hardwired into the brain stem and cannot be deactivated.

EAGLE EYE

BODY

Enhanced visual processing through cyberoptics. Users can see further, have increased visual clarity, and can optionally choose to link their visual feed to outside hardware such as SMART guns and DataTerm repositories. More advanced models may be capable of live scanning and vital tracking.

Unless both eyes are replaced by cyberoptics, the user is likely to suffer from chronic migraines due to the discrepancy between the cyberoptic and their organic eye.

NERVES OF STEEL

MIND

Advanced mood stabilization prevents the user from cracking under the pressure. By overriding certain neurotransmitters, the typical ‘flight or fight’ response is avoided, effectively eliminating the possibility of panic and fear from stopping the user. Depending on the quality of the chemicals, however, there may be direct side effects of neutralizing all emotions as a whole. Long term usage is not recommended and nor has it been studied in depth.

Design

Right eye is a cyberoptic. Muted red when not in use. Lights up during scans or when aiming.

Exoskeleton on arms and legs. Worn on top of the clothing. Made of titanium steel. These are not prosthetics. Not optional.

Jaw prosthetic is made of titanium steel. Connects at the lower mandible and covers the following areas: bottom jaw, neck, sternum and collarbone, shoulderblades, and the spine down to T8. Not optional.

EXOSKELETON

A state of the art exoskeleton produced by Matsundai. Provides artificial support and structure for the natural body without the need for invasive surgery. Reduced risk of cyberpsychosis and implant rejection when compared to standard prosthetic usage.

Powered by an internal lithium battery; battery requires frequent replacement every 3-5 months due to excessive wear and tear in addition to high energy demands. Additional nightly charging is required to extend battery life. In event of replacement, exoskeleton must be fully removed and serviced by a Matsundai technician.

SPINAL REPLACEMENT

A full length spinal replacement from T2 to L5. The logistics of it are closely guarded by Matsundai, which at this point remains the only company capable of such an invasive augmentation. Performed as a last ditch effort to reverse complete paralysis from the neck down.

CYBEROPTIC

Complete retinal and optic nerve replacement. Wired to a small data drive that allows for temporary storage of short recordings, which may then be uploaded to the user's DataTerm link. Additionally allows for live display of information that can be readily accessed from the DataTerm link.

May be connected to Smartgun sensor when applicable.

NEURAL PROCESSOR

The kill switch.

Connects everything together and serves as the foundation for all augmentations and chemical functions.

ARCH NEMESIS

She will not rest until they have been eradicated from the face of the earth. Such scum does not deserve a place among society.

DEPENDS ON WHO YOU ASK

...She doesn't want to talk about it. Not with you, anyways.

CONNIVING LITTLE SHIT

Treacherous rat. A meddlesome pest that lurks in her shadow and exists solely to undo everything she does.

She wishes she had another pair of legs so she could rip them off again.
