Charlotte

Vehema are a species that live a rather... violent way of life. Like the wildlife on their home planet, Viscuou, they've adapted to the environment of their continuously harsh and spontaneous weather conditions by becoming harsh and violent themselves. Vehema have somehow grown to have a near insatiable lust for killing things for fun, not incredibly unlike a feral domesticated cat. This bloodlust does not care if it goes after creatures or other people, it simply likes killing. If anything, the more clever the creature, the more fun it became to hunt and kill, thus their reputation for mindlessly attacking people came to be. Why these red-eyed foxes have adapted this particular way of life and why it is so hard wired into their consciousnesses is still unknown, and continues to stump Vanus biologists, scientists and doctors to this day.

However recent generations of Vehema have been starting to be born without this permanent bloodlusting state, signified by eye color. Vehema with red eyes are always in a bloodlust, but these newer generations, that prefer to refer to themselves as Dormant Vehema, have a wide variety of eye colors. They do however call themselves dormant because despite not constantly being in this bloodlusting state, they are able to have it triggered temporarily, turning them into the murderous monster they try to avoid being.

Charlotte is one of these Dormant Vehema. After losing her family in a clan war, she became a vagabond, scavenging and hunting for food to survive. Other Vehema clans viewed her as weak because of her calm, but often skittish demeanor, and have made it a twisted game to kill the last remaining Xerza clan member. Fortunately for her, she was a mapmaker and starcharter for her clan, and knows a lot of the forest areas like the back of her hand, so she's easily able to outwit and lose her pursuers. However it doesn't make her any less jumpy at most sounds and movements or help her get any more sleep.

Charlotte dreams of being able to escape Viscuou and live a less on-edge life to pursue her craft of charting, and an opportunity seems to fall into her lap when a strange craft appears on Viscuou. The ship contained a member of a species she's never seen before referring to herself as a Z'mai, and this Z'mai happens to be looking for an ancient piece of technology that Charlotte may have happened to stumble on while running from pursuers... Now if she could only remember where the entrance to the cavern had been... and perhaps get some answers as to why this Z'mai would be interested in or even know about strange ancient tech on Viscuou in the first place...
