Ririka Myracane (リリカミラケイヌ, Ririka Mirakeinu) is a Beast Hunter and a former traveling companion of Gon and Killua.

After being captured by the Royal Guards, she is reborn into a Chimera Ant soldier. Since separating from her former group, Ririka has set out on her own journey together with Colt, Ikalgo, and Meleoron.

Appearance

Ririka's 2011 anime adaptation design (as a Chimera Ant)

As a human, Ririka has long black hair with a tint of green that reaches to her lower back . Her bangs are swept to the side and strands of hair on the side of her face are cut to just below the chin, with two tuff of hair sticking up on either side of her head; which are purposefully styled to resemble that of animal ears and is her most distinguishable feature. Her eyes are green with dark green pupils outlined in black, whilst her skin is tan. Although she starts off the series being a little on the chubby side, as the story progresses and she developes her fighting ability, her figure becomes a little more defined with muscle.

After becoming a Chimera Ant, Ririka's black wavy hair has become more unruly, and she regularly styles it into a high ponytail to keep out of her face. Where the two tuffs of hair once resided, now she sports a pair of cat ears. Her arms and legs are covered with fur and, on the bottom of her palms and feet are paw pads much like that of an actual cat. Along with the cat ears, she also possesses a cat tail, which moves to her ever changing emotions, much to her dismay.

The outfit she is most seen in is a green hoodie and dark gray sweat pants, with a black tank top underneath; an outfit she prefers wearing if she feels she'll be in any need to move around much as it's the easiest and most durable of all her outfits. Outside of training or fights, Ririka usually dones cutesy pastel colored outfits; switching between short skirts or shorts, most often paired some thigh high socks.

Personality

...
Caption

Initially, Ririka comes off as energetic, friendly, and a little unassuming. Having taken the Hunter Exam at her grandmother's recommendation, Ririka did not have any goals throughout it except passing and possibly making new friends. Though outgoing and open to interacting with others, Ririka is not so easily trusting of people and prefers getting a good read of one's character through carefully thought out interactions before deciding whether to trust someone or not. She is not one to open up easily to others and prefers keeping her past and opinions to herself, and will distance herself from those she does not take a liking to.

Having spent part of her early life in Meteor City and then hiding out in the mountains out of a lack of social skills, Ririka has a hard time connecting to and interacting with most people. She is not up-to-date with all of the latest interests and technology, and most of her knowledge lies in cooking and the territory she spends most of her time in, making it hard to keep conversations lasting past the initial greetings. She lacks the self-confidence in herself and will opt out of situations if she does not see any merits to it. This plays a big role in the reason she has a hard time making friends, as she is quick to give up and withdraw from others.

Overall, while Ririka is a friendly and outgoing person on the outside, she does not care to go out of her way for something unless she feels there is benefit for her in the end result. Having a low confidence in herself, she thrives best in an environment filled with encouragement and support. Her loyalty can know no bounds once she's grown attached to a person, and she will do everything in her power and beyond to ensure their good health and happiness. She is not very argumentative and, when someone attempts to push her buttons or insult her, she will simply brush it off and move on. Ririka is very active and enjoys a good adventure, and is always willing and ready to help those she cares about in any way she can.

Background

...
Caption

Ririka hailed from Meteor City, a junkyard city inhabited by outcasts. People who live there do not exist in any official records and the existence of the city itself is known to very few people. She has few recollection of her time in the city, due to the hardships and trauma she experienced there. However, her experiences have etched itself deep in her subconscious and continues to influence her actions and thoughts.

Equipment

Backpack: When traveling, Ririka wears a black and green backpack in which she stores an extra pair of clothes, non perishables, and other necessities and items she feels a need to have on her.

Notebook: A notebook she carries in her backpack with notes on all her friends. Things from their birthdays, to their favorite food, to their contact information is stored in here for future reference.

Pocket Knife: Although originally used when foraging for food while out in the forest and mountains of her home town, she later incorporates it into her fights - albeit sparingly as she trains to use a knife in battle properly.

Daggers: After completing Greed Island, Ririka adds daggers to her arsenal for the specific purpose of using in combat, which she enhances with Shu.

Abilities & Powers

Ririka has all the benefits granted by her status as a Hunter. Furthermore, as a former resident of Meteor City, her existence is not recorded in any database, which makes obtaining information about her nearly impossible. Growing up in a city filled with nothing but trash and outcasts, Ririka learned how to scavenge and survive on the barest minimal. She is a rather good thief when she wants to be and is efficient in collecting any information she is in need of. As revealed in the scene in which Killua shows her his Rhythm Echo technique, she is familiar with and adept at some assassination techniques, although she did not have realize their purpose until that point. She also appears to be a rather quick learner, being able to pick up on techniques through minimal explanation and demonstration, as shown when she learned how to use Rhythm Echo after only a few attempts. Ririka possess an astounding natural talent that, added with her quick learning and sharp intuition, has given her incredible potential and piqued the interest of others. This potential extends to her Nen as well, as noted by Wing and Bisky

Ririka did not a set training regime until she met Wing and trained under him, and later furthered it with Bisky. Prior to that, her abilities were all things she picked up either from watching or learning from others. Though she did not know any proper fighting forms, she could hold her own in battle against average opponents. Her small stature and incredible agility made easier for hit and run tactics, and she favored sneaking around and escaping over actual fighting. For as great as her physical capabilities were, her limited knowledge in fighting left her unable to battle against others of similar physique who possessed more training. She does not have much confidence in herself or her potential, which often leads to her doubting her skills and observations. She does not like putting others at risk and, if given the option, will run over confronting whatever is in her way. Because of this, she required a ton of training to stand her own and keep up with others, even in battle. Since meeting Bisky, she is quite proficient in the Shingen-Ryu fighting style - even more so than Killua and Gon as Bisky focused her training around using the fighting style together with her abilities.

Though she hates to admit it, Ririka's Nen abilities serve both as a strength and a weakness to her. Having met many mentally and physically strong people in her journey, she's come to realize just how weak she is herself. If put up against an opponent who possesses far more physical strength and fighting ability than her, she knows that only strategic and creative ways would lead her to victory - which is another point she is still lacking in and desperately trains to overcome. She is also one to give up much quicker than others if she doesn't feel threatened or believes an outcome to be worth it. Unless those she holds dear are threatened, she prefers remaining passive rather than jumping into action. On top of that, as a Specialist, Ririka has very little efficiency in Enhancement, and thus cannot rely well on enhancing herself or items to help in fights.

Enhanced Strength: Even before taking on the training at the Zoldyck Family estate, Ririka has been seen to lift objects many times her own weight. During the Hunter Exam, Ririka was able to effortlessly carry the Great Stamp after defeating it. After the 20 day training at the Zoldyck estate, Ririka was capable of pushing open an 8 ton gate. While it is unknown just how much Ririka has grown in physical strength since learning Nen, she has always maintained a strength greater than Gon's without the use of Nen.

Enhanced Speed and Reflexes: During the Hunter Exam, Ririka has shown to have incredible speed and reflexes. Although not quite on par with Killua and Gon, she was able to manage keeping up with both of them throughout the exams. Her skills would only grow under the unrelenting tutelage of Bisky, to the point of becoming equal to that of Gon and Killua. Her transformation into a Chimera Ant has only increased her skills and she continues to diligently train to hone them.

Enhanced Agility: Ririka is incredibly agile and able to move in whatever position needed. Before being properly trained in fighting, her main style was twisting around others and immobilizing them via arm or leg locks. It has only increased to superhuman capability since training with Bisky.

Enhanced Stamina: During the Hunter Exam, Ririka was able to complete a marathon of over 80 kilometers during the first phase of the Hunter Exam with little trouble. She later trained to keep up her Ren for over three hours without breaking a sweat, and fight for hours on end even when riddled with fatigue.

Enhanced Endurance: Thanks to Bisky's training, Ririka has come to be able to ignore immense pain whilst fighting. During a bout with two Chimera Ants, Ririka was able to continue fighting even as she was heavily injured, and only stopped when she'd been rendered unconscious.

Keen Intellect: Ririka possesses an intellect far greater than that of her age. She has been trained to always keep aware of her surroundings and find ways out of even the stickiest of situations. After the first encounter with Rammot, in which the Chimera Ant barely escaped with his life, Ririka came to the conclusion that Chimera Ants might possibly be able to learn Nen seeing as they were born of humans.

Immense Intuition: Ririka is often able to discern whether a situation will turn out good or bad by intuition alone. This has been compared to having a sixth sense for possible future events, as well as a deep understanding of situation even beyond that of what would be perceived as logical.

Proficient Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Ririka was taught in the basics of Shingen-ryu kung fu by Wing, and later more advanced teachings by Bisky. Due to the nature of her Nen abilities, her fighting styles revolves around being well-versed in hand-to-hand combat and being well versed in stealth tactics to defeat opponents. After fighting relentlessly for 10 days against the experienced Hunter Binolt, Ririka was able to defeat with no help from outside sources. She was also able to perform the Flowing Dance exercise at full speed within just two weeks, sparring on equal ground Gon and Killua while using Ryu. During the fight against the Chimera Ants, hand-to-hand was Ririka's prime source of combat, using Nen efficiently to enhance all her attacks.

Expert Stealth: Ririka excels at the use of Zetsu, to the point that Bisky speculates she may be one of the best practictioners of it even among specialists. Though she's still learning to completely erase all sound from her movements, her use of Zetsu makes her great for stealth missions and keeping hidden from enemies.

Skilled Chef: Having been taught how to cook by her grandmother for most of her adolescent years, Ririka is a great chef. She enjoys experimenting with ingredients and coming up with new recipes. Her guinea pigs tend to be Gon and Killua and, while she does mess up quite a bit here and there, for the most part most have positive reviews of her cooking.

Nen

Ririka is a specialist; her Nen ability focuses on shutting down a person's ability to use aura in any way, shape or form. Her talent and potential is said to be outstanding, found only in one out of ten million people. Thanks to Biscuit's training, she has honed her skills in at least two Nen types other than her own, namely Manipulation and Conjuration. She has also mastered the four basic techniques and at least five of the advanced ones (the possible exceptions being In and En, although she can use Ren to sense attacks she would otherwise be unable to react to). She performed Ten successfully with next to no instructions, a feat which Wing described as both "amazing" and "terrifying", and learned Ren and Gyo in only one night. She was also capable of performing Zetsu with great skill and without guidance after seeing Gon use it against Gido. In fact, Biscuit has remarked that Ririka might possibly be one of the best practictioners of it, even among specialists, and her application of it would become next to flawless in mastery soon. She is able to maintain Ren for three hours outside of combat without the slightest difficulty, and Ten at all times. Thanks to Biscuit's training, Ririka is efficiently able to use it in battle, swiftly applying it to even more than one body part at a time. Ririka has mastered switching between Zetsu and other forms of Nen techniques instantaneously, being able to hide her presence and her complete capabilities from others well.

Ririka's main Hatsu ability is called Shut Down. Due to her passive sumbission character and her fear of the vast possibilities that Nen holds, Ririka came to develop the ability out of fear. During a fight in Heavens Arena in which she wished to check her progress in Nen, Ririka was matched with an opponent with far greater experience and knowledge in Nen. She was quick to realize the difference in experience and, as she was frozen in fear and defeat, she unlocked her Hatsu and nullified her opponents. At the time, she did not understand what had happened and, through pure adrenaline and instincts, shoved her opponent out of the ring and into cement barrier hard enough to knock him out. Wing explained after the match that she had unconsciously used Hatsu and was the first to develop her own out of the group. After going through the Water Divinition test, it was confirmed Ririka was a Specialist.

Weaknesses: Whereas Ririka is a master of Zetsu, her skill in En is very much lacking. Being a Specialist also means she lacks the most efficiency in Enhancement; thus she can only add a very limited amount of force into techniques like Ko, while at the same time her healing capabilities are the slowest out of the group.

Ririka's Nen Type: Specialization
Type: Specialization Shut Down (Kanji, シャットダウン Second Name)
unavailable-image.jpg Ririka forces anyone within a 15 meter radius of herself into the state of Zetsu. Any Nen based attacks cannot be used in this area, including simple enhanced techniques and hatsu abilities. The exception to this rule are conjured items; if a person has their conjured item out before the activation of this ability, it will remain out and cannot be deactivated until Shutdown is no longer in use. (Ex. a conjured gun can still be fired in this area, however any special properties of it are rendured nonexistent. Whereas items like Kurapika's chains will remain visible, though cannot be moved through Manipulation)
  • This Hatsu also affects Ririka as well, meaning she cannot use any attacks backed by aura.
Type: Specialization Tap Out (Kanji, タップアウト Second Name)
unavailable-image.jpg By touching a target who possesses any aura, Ririka can force the target into the state of Zetsu. The time in which the target remains in this state is limited, with Ririka being able to force someone into this state for just over four minutes after the Chiemra Ant arc. This ability will remain active even if the target puts great distance between themself and Ririka.
  • Ririka must touch the target in order for this ability to activate.
  • This ability cannot be activated while Shut Down is in effect.

Quotes

[]

  • (When asked why she took the Hunter Exam) "To be honest, I only really came here because my Grams recommended it. She said with my skills I'd be sure to pass and maybe even make some friends on the way. I don't actually know what Hunters really do and I don't particularly have an interest in being one myself. So I guess I'm just here for fun."
  • (To Killua) "Huh, but didn't you just say you don't want to stay with me for the Fourth Phase?"
  • (To Ririka) "You know, when someone insults you, you're not supposed to agree with them." —Killua Zoldyck
  • (To Gon and Killua) "Well, when you put it that way... I'm glad to have met both of you, too!"
  • (To Bisky) "Gon and Killua are the first friends I've ever made and they've done so much for me. The way I am now... Please Bisky, can you give me extra training? They're always being so wreckless and I want to be able to stand with them and help them."

Other quotes:

  • (To Ririka) "Listen, you're way too submissive. You're always gonna be pushed around and defeated if you don't start getting more assertive." —Biscuit Krueger

  • Following canonical spellings of other characters, her name is also spelled as "Lyrka."
  • Ririka is both the shortest and the youngest out of her group.
    • The number of the month and day of her birthday are the same; 09/09. It is a characteristic she shares with the main characters of the series.

  • Although she takes on the title of Beast Hunter, Ririka mainly focuses on study and conservation efforts of Magical Beasts, as well as dispelling harmful rumors and myths surrounding them.
  • A strange quirk of Ririka's is that her right foot must always be last; when climbing stairs, she will stop to count every single one to ensure her right foot is on the last step. This, however, is not limited to only stairs, as she also calculates the distance of each step on sidewalks to make sure her right foot is the one to step over the cracks in the pavement. It is an annoying habit she finds about herself that she wishes to overcome one day.
  • She adores any matcha type snacks.

Notes

Author's Notes

  • Though I'm not sure of the exact date, Ririka was created way back in 2011. Her name was originally "Lyrica" as a reference to her love of music and her original Hatsu idea was based around this as well. Weirdly enough, she was also first made to be a Gourmet Hunter. Wow, how we've come a long way....
  • As much as I love the main four, I've always wanted to know what it would be like if a girl their age was thrown into the mix. Probably not too much different, but I like a little diversity and thus I created Ririka. I've always wondered how Gon and Killua survived on their own what with Killua's habit of spending all his money on snacks and Gon constantly throwing himself into messes without thinking, so Ririka is there to make sure they eat and don't die lololol.
  • In the first draft of her story, Ririka was supposed to die during the Chimera Ant arc. This was later changed to have her die just a few years after the arc in the second draft. Although I am still unsure of how long I want her to live for, for the moment she at least reaches her late teens and maaaaybe her twenties. We shall see. I make no promises.
  • At one point in time I humored the idea of pairing Ririka up with Alluka. I'm not sure how the two would have met, but I can see Ririka coming to adore the other girl and even possibly forming a crush on her.
  • Also, please note that this profile is absolutely not complete and will likely still be edited and updated in the future again.
