Sophie is a Revue Starlight fan character made to an original setting with a friend. However. knowledge about the franchise is not needed to read this profile.
After I saw Starlight... I felt something I had never felt before. If I could make even one person feel the way I did back then, that'd make me very happy.
xZ5QIm8.png Once a girl bullied for her shy personality and quiet voice, Sophie’s attempts at becoming more confident eventually led her to enroll into a prestigious theater school in Paris. While her small and delicate stature has put her at disadvantage in comparison to most of her peers, she makes it up with her attention-demanding voice when acting, as well as her ability to think outside the box.

Guided by the passion she felt upon seeing Starlight in Japan, Sophie is working hard to become someone whose acting could awake similar feelings in others. She cares about the feelings of others sometimes to the point of becoming a pushover herself, and the competitive nature of her future profession doesn’t necessarily mesh well with such a caring heart. Nevertheless, Sophie seems to be able to genuinely care about other people and their success all the while staying ambitious and motivated to become the best she can be.

Perhaps thanks to her tabletop game background and her notoriously cunning dungeon master, Sophie is quickly able to learn from the giraffe just what kind of fate awaits those who lose the strange auditions. However (and perhaps arrogantly so) she joins the auditions anyway, her goal to win so she can save the others from the misfortune. But with her opponents being closer to her than she would have expected, there is no knowing just what kind of performance she will be able to put up for her audience...

APPEARANCE

Sophie is a notably short young woman, standing only 149cm tall. Added by her delicate looking slim body, she may appear as small and fragile to those who aren't aware of just how strong and flexible she actually is. However, since she's still just starting out with the stricter and more intense workout regime at school, she still doesn't show much visible muscle on her body.

She has a light blond hair reaching her shoulders, with her side bangs slightly longer. She's often seen wearing a ribbon on her hair. Her eyes are round, large and light brown. Her nose bridge is somewhat long, but her nose itself is of average size and proportionate to her overall facial features. Her lips are thin and light, and she is almost never seen wearing any lipstick to emphasize them either.

She wears a school uniform during classes, but usually switches to everyday clothes after school. Most of her clothes feature the colors white and pink.

SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Her biggest strengths in acting are undoubtedly her confident stage presence and her ability to improvise quickly & think outside the box. Although not much of a rule breaker by nature, she has the ability to bend the rules and sometimes even turn situations upside down - a skill often underestimated, but one which often proves useful on stage.

  • Pair dancing is one of her weaknesses: she’s alright at dancing on her own, but when you add another person into it she becomes easily flustered and nervous about accidentally stepping on their toes - which she usually ends up doing precisely because she’s so nervous about it.

  • She also tends to struggle with finding her pre-established positions on stage, even with markings on the floor.

  • In her audition battles against others, Sophie imitates the moves of her previous opponents. This makes her fighting style ever-evolving, mixing and matching what she already knows and what she’s learning from others. She’s good at copying, but as such often lacks the true mastery and understanding of what she’s doing.

  • She’s not necessarily lacking in stamina, but due to her small size she has to put extra effort into keeping up with those taller and bigger than her.

  • Fluent in French and Swedish, although she sometimes has trouble with her French: she has lived most of her life in Sweden and used mostly Swedish in her daily life. She also speaks pretty decent English, and enough Japanese to be able to get by in the country.

  • Her singing voice is stronger than one would expect from such a small girl. She may not be the best singer of her class, but her voice definitely demands attention whether she’s singing or speaking - but usually only on stage. Otherwise she tends to speak in a voice much softer and quieter, surprising many when she gets up on stage and opens her mouth there.

TRIVIA

  • Much of her improvisation skills come from DnD and various other tabletop games she has played: as an attempt to become more confident and to learn to talk louder, she joined a tabletop group and has been with the same group ever since.

  • Resulting from her tabletop adventures, Sophie has a decent amount of characters she’d consider “OCs”. She’s not much of an artist herself though, but likes to commission art of her most frequently used characters when she has some spare change. She also likes daydreaming about her characters when she’s bored.

  • Her creative interests have, unsurprisingly, led her to watch anime & read manga. She also likes reading graphic novels.

  • Her voice sounds lower when she speaks Swedish, likely due to her confidence in it.

  • Sometimes makes decisions with her dnd dices because she can.

  • Due to her size, she’s usually not cast in male roles even if she has the capacity for these kind of roles as well. She doesn’t exactly mind though.

  •  She’s considered the “protagonist” in the narrative of her setting. Although it’s implied she has seen the stage performance of Starlight performed by the Seisho Music Academy girls, she doesn’t have anything personal to do with them.

PERSONALITY

Sophie is very friendly - that’s an undoubtable fact very clear to anyone who meets her. She is cooperative, enjoys being around other people and will generally feel responsible for the wellbeing of others, although sometimes to the point it might start to wear her down. While she’s very shy especially around strangers, she’s generally very tuned for the feelings of others: when others are having fun she’s also having fun, and when someone gets sad she, too, will get sad. While on stage it’s easy for her to get into her character and be unaffected by the characters played by others, outside of stage she can be painfully empathetic. Furthermore, because she tries her best to be nice to everyone, Sophie can be kind of a pushover on her quest to keep everyone else happy, or become meddlesome as she involves herself with the problems of others without being asked to.

Perhaps unsurprisingly, Sophie has a strong sense of duty. She’s very determined to finish the things she starts and keeping secrets and promises is a matter of honor to her. This can, however, become sheer stubbornness as she refuses to stop no matter how many times she fails, sometimes going as far as overworking herself or even getting hurt. Sophie doesn’t like feeling like a quitter, and she is very concerned with the way others see her, thus trying to appear her best at any given moment. Despite that, many still consider her somewhat unsophisticated: she’s still young and trying to adjust to a culture that has become strange to her, and so she can appear more casual that might be expected of someone studying in a school like hers. In addition, she easily misunderstand things in often hilarious ways.

With others she may appear a little reserved at first, but once she gets to know the general personalities and dynamics of the people she will relax considerably. Sophie is usually not the one to get herself into trouble especially on purpose and overall likes to stick by the rules, but her stubbornness and the taste for the occasional rule bending (a direct result from her numerous tabletop game campaigns) may sometimes make her find herself in strange situations - such as the curious auditions she’s now participating in. Despite her shyness, Sophie likes to tackle new challenges as bravely as just possible, her active imagination and knack for finding verbal loopholes often aiding her on her quest.

Although Sophie is by no means competitive nor does she see her peers as her enemies, there is a certain kind of hidden arrogance and self-assurance to her shown in how much she believes in her own skills. Because she has no formal background dancing, singing or acting of her own, she’s quick to think of herself as particularly good for “someone with no prior experience”, thus making it easy for her to suffer losses (“they just had more experience than I did”) and to feel particularly good about herself when she succeeds (“I have no experience yet I did better than those who do have it”). While this is very much a coping mechanisms for Sophie and she would never brag out loud, it’s questionable just how long she will be able to actually keep up with this thinking: after all, it’s a flawed logic doomed to betray her one day when someone who likewise has no prior experience defeats her.

HISTORY

Sophie has lived majority of her life in Sweden. Although born in France, her parents moved to Stockholm, chasing after promotions and an even better pay, Sophie naturally moving with them. While her parents only spoke the basics of Swedish at first and thus could not teach her fluency from birth, she attended Swedish daycare and mingled with Swedish children, making her learn much quicker than her parents did.

Rather shy with a quiet voice, Sophie got bullied for these traits when she started school. As such she didn’t have all too many friends growing up especially from her own class, and she’d spend more time with older kids or with her relatives that she’d occasionally meet despite the distance. Likewise she’d turn to the internet as she got older, making long distance friends that would get her into anime and manga - which in turn led to her studying Japanese on her own.

It was through these circles that brought tabletop games into her attention, and she was able to join a little group of others around her age from a different school. Her biggest motivation to join was to make more real life friends and to gain more confidence, and she succeeded fantastically in both: not only did she get a tight knit group of friends, but she also learned the joys of acting and improvisation as they played with their characters.

Thanks to her mother's connections, Sophie was able to visit a family friend in Japan for a few weeks. It just so happened that the family had a daughter enrolled in Seisho Music Academy’s Stage Production Department, and as a result Sophie tackled along with her host family to see the academy’s production of Starlight. Upon seeing the performance on stage, Sophie was so overwhelmed by feeling that she wished to become part of that magic herself.

Soon after this her father’s workplace was relocated, and her family moved back to France. There she would practice on her own for the upcoming entrance exams to a Parisian theater school, one which she also passed - even if just barely.

Currently: First year has started, and somehow Sophie has found herself under the wing of Michelle and Cosette, a pair of third years. Although she’s still struggling to get adjusted to France and her shyness is making its comeback because of that, she’s still having a plenty of fun - or had, until she found herself invited to a strange audition by a talking giraffe.

Quick to learn from the Giraffe himself about the unfortunate fate that awaits the losers of the auditions, she joins the stage with the resolve to save the others who are unaware of risk they’re taking. Because she’s not allowed to tell the others what she knows, she sees no choice but to try to win herself, and to then deny the prize as not to steal what is the most important to the other stage girls...

Michelle Leblanc

[ like a big sister ]

A doting upperclassman who, for whatever reason, seems to have taken Sophie under her wing. Sophie admires her greatly, thinking of her as an older sister of sort.

Cosette

[ like a big sister ]

Another upperclassman who has taken Sophie under her wing, perhaps due to being so closely involved with Michelle. Sophie admires her a lot as well, although wonders what exactly is her relationship to Michelle.

Laurine

[ school prince ]

Although they're not close just yet, Sophie is very familiar with Laurine due to her reputation and the fact she's Michelle's roommate. Sophie thinks she's cool and charismatic, if not a little strange at times.

Odette

[ another school prince ]

Laurine's friend and rival, Sophie doesn't know her too well just yet, but is very aware of the rivalry between her and Laurine. Much like Laurine, Sophie thinks she's cool and charismatic, but also a little strange.

Colleen

[ scary second year ]

An intimidating second year, Colleen reminds Sophie of a wild animal. Although she's very aggressive and doesn't seem to want to make friends, Sophie is still drawn to her - especially after having seen her volunteer at the local animal shelter.
