As a luthier, he specializes in the making of instruments in the violin family. He can repair/tune a majority of string instruments but will usually encourage clients to go to someone who specializes in their instrument if the situation is too complicated.

A laurelle who spends his days crafting. His search for different sounds often lead him on long travels. Sometimes when he's away for too long, he'll go on a craze when he's back (aka free violins for everyone).

Personality [ Calm / Gentle / Free Spirited ]

Known for his gentle demeanor, it is rare to see Ivair express much anger or impatience over things. It’s not to say Ivair doesn’t get annoyed, he simply expresses his displeasure with a slight hum or his smile gets a little "bright." Seldom to respond aggressively to confrontation, Ivair has a bad habit of responding with a slightly chiding tone especially when he finds the aggression unfounded (a habit he picked up from teaching difficult students). He’d rather spend his energy elsewhere, like his precious violins.

Ivair knows he can go on very long tangents about his latest violin adventures and will do his best to reil himself in, especially if he’s just met the other person. However, that is when Ivair truly comes alive. His normally serene gaze becomes lit with excitement and wonder. It does make him quite abashed when he’s realized he’s gotten carried away.

A side effect of Ivair’s normally calm demeanor is that it makes it hard to know what he’s thinking at times and can make him appear a bit air-headed. In reality, Ivair just doesn’t mind a lot of things (//coughs ok he's kind of ditzy too) but sometimes, he's just too busy up in the clouds theorizing about his projects.

Background

Ivair is extremely skilled with the violin family, but considers himself most familiar with the violin as it was his first instrument and what he builds the most. While Ivair loves playing all the instruments in the violin family, he loves building them even more.

He is obsessed with finding new/different materials to build with. He is often inspired by his travels and will end up creating more projects for himself along the way. An expensive hobby to say the least, but it was what caused Ivair to be the rank he is now. He would do missions/bounties for money and if the materials couldn’t be bought (or were too expensive), he would venture out by himself. Going into unknown/dangerous areas, it helped build up his battle experience and knowledge. Also, he didn’t have a lot of money back then, farming for his materials was easier and cheaper 8D.

Different materials, tools, methods produce different sounds and Ivair wants to discover them all. While some combinations shouldn’t have been made, it’s simply something to learn from for him. Although he does wince a bit—he insists it’s with fondness, at some of the failures. Afterall, it does hurt a bit when the mats were fucking expensive and the sound ends up being like a cry for help.

He loves observing those versed in their areas of expertise and most of all, he loves learning. Ivair has an arsenal of random skills/knowledge. He knows how to work metal, glass, minerals, etc. Yes, he’s also a pro at arts and crafts...instruments sometimes need to be dressed up too ;D. He’ll often end up making random trinkets here and there in his spare time. All for the sake of his precious experiments (y).

Other

- Used to teach violin/viola/cello and the making of them but has stopped as his travelling has become impossible to schedule around
- He likes to catch up with old students!
- His father was a luthier and lit the never ending fire in Ivair’s heart.
- His work area is immaculate, but other than that, he’s….messy.

- He likes making violins in memory of certain moments in his life (almost like “preserving” the memory; he tries to use sound to replicate the feeling of the memory)

His glass violin summons a barrier that is akin to a playing ground for him. His senses are more enhanced in the barrier, making it easier to sync his music to the opponent's movement (can make his movements very graceful looking). His secondary summon is a parasol w/ a hidden sword that enlarges his area of effect. His parasol isn't used very often...mostly to block the sun/rain.

As he became more powerful, his violin is no longer needed to summon his barrier/control his constellations but the strength of his abilities aren't as strong.

Barriers/Shields

When summoned, the "wall" has constellations floating on it before fading to nothingness (same when his barriers are destroyed). His barriers can be used to deny/allow entry, mostly used to protect supplies/people if he's not fighting. The longer he plays, the stronger and longer his barriers last without him.

Constellations

Constellations of various sizes appear within his field, he uses them to attack/parry attacks within his field.

Other

- Sensitive to sound...uses the vibrations of sound? tbc...
- Back in the beginning, he would summon barriers one after another to slow down opponent’s movements (as there wasn’t anything else he could do with them, and they would break too easily in the beginning against stronger opponents). Part of the reason why he’s good at fighting in close combat, very agile and light with his steps. Not afraid to take risks as he would fight with everything he had
- When working in groups (rare), he is usually supporting from behind

Barriers

- Targeted towards businesses and the wealthy
- Barriers can prevent individuals from entering during chosen hours or only allow certain types of individuals in
- For an added fee, more mechanisms can be added (eg. constellations that will trap intruding individuals)
- All barriers will include the "key" of the system, a small constellations charm that will expand like a hologram, showing the blueprint of the building/current outline of individuals inside. It can only be modified by the owner and activated by a maximum of 5 people. Additional keys can be crafted for a fee
- Prices will go up depending on how strong the barrier is needed to be and how long they would like it to last without renewal (will get weaker after). The initial price for longer lasting barriers is much higher, but the renewal fee is much lower than having a barrier that requires yearly maintenance (minimum: 1 year; maximum 10 years)
- Due to time constraints, proposal of long-term 1 year barriers may be declined

Other

- The longer/stronger a barrier needs to be, the longer Ivair must play his violin as he's infusing it with his magic (e.g 10 year barrier would take him a month to set up, and another month to strengthen if there are no issues)
- Hence the astronomical costs, a lot of time...away from his precious violins.
