About
Mutation

“Telescope vision”

He can look deep into space like a standard high-quality telescope could. At this point in his life, he can see beyond our galaxy, and view those that surrond us. He can push deeper into space, but it causes great headaches.

The distance will increase as he ages and practices.

As he looks deeper into space, his orange glow gets brighter and the side-effect headache gets worse. A typical nights gazing would only give him a minor headache that he can sleep off, but looking out too far can cause a days-long headache.

He is only able to use the mutation at night due to his eyes being extra sensitive to sunlight. Trying during the day would cause temporary blindness and a bad headache. This has caused him to be mostly nocturnal, any trips into the daylight require sunglasses.

Cosmetically, his mutation caused his skin to change and grow spikes on his face, fingers, hips, and shoulders. Along with that, his blush, teeth, and blood are orange. His eyes became bigger and his hair whiter. His color changes happened instantly, but his eye and horn growth took about a day to reach it's full mutation.

Personality
Intelligent • Playful • Confident • Flirty

Polaris is very intelligent. He studied hard in school and went through college as an astronomer with straight A's and plenty of extra credits. He knows just about all there is to know about space. His favorite thing to study is black holes, which is where he got the idea for his pseudonym, ''Horizon'' and his paint theme. He uses this name to sign his work when he writes and draws up star charts.

He's very playful if he likes you enough. He loves to tease his friends and hold things over their heads. If he has a lot of energy built up, he can and will chase his friend until one of them passes out. His sense of humor is very strange... he's just a big ol goofball. He's the type to stick straws under his lip and pretend to be a walrus. He also has a weird reaction to sugar, even the smallest amount sends him up the walls with the worst case of human-zoomies you'll see. It's almost comical to watch.

Polaris is very confident- both in his looks and intelligence. He knows what he's talking about and won't let people try to discredit him. He worked hard to get the knowledge he has and does not appreciate people trying to pretend they know more than him when it comes to astronomy.

He is very comfortable with himself, so he's never afraid to try crazy new outfits. As long as he can pair it with some gold jewelry, he'll try anything. He always tries to hype up his less-confident friends and encourages them to try bold new clothes with him.

Polaris is a MASSIVE flirt. Honestly, you can't take him anywhere at this point. He usually only flirts as a joke, mostly to mess with people. He does flirt with actual crushes, though those are pretty rare from him.

Current Life

Polaris currently has a home in the Lars territory, but spends the majority of his time traveling to other factions to get a slightly new view of the stars and visit his friends. He does a lot of deliveries for them, getting the things they need from other factions.

He built a little wagon that he keeps his supplies in and he trails it all over the place. If you stop him, he might show you his latest star maps. He loves to trade his maps, sketches, notes, and short stories for supplies and things... and new clothes of course. The fastest way to get him on your side is to let him talk about space. Though I must say, it really doesn't take much to get him on your side. He is very friendly.

Polaris had always hoped to become an astronomy professor when he got older, so he uses his current situation as a way to do that. He takes in eager people of all ages and teaches them anything from the basics of the solar system to the complex ins and outs of the universe itself. He's hoping to someday be able to set up an actual schoolhouse for teaching the next generation of astronomers, but right now he just visits his students during his travels and does his best.

He is always traveling around, he hardly ever gets a chance to take a day off. If he isn't visiting in factions, he's trekking through to the next one and probably getting hurt. Between sleeping on his wagon in caves and dragging the thing up and down rocky hills, the man gets a lot of little injuries. His claws and body spikes don't help with that much. Luckily though, he finally learned some basic first aid to keep himself alive.

Pre-Toxin

Before the toxins hit, Polaris had been working for NASA at one of their latest research centers. He was a highly respected astronomer and known for his part in major breakthroughs in black hole research. He and his team were very close, practically family. They always had his back, just as he had theirs. They were the first people he lost. Their deaths still keep him up at night, all these years later.

Shortly before the toxins, Po was nearly finished with his space training. He was going to be apart of a special deep space travel mission. He had gone through years of 0g training, underwater training, and lots and lots of drills. He was beyond excited to be with the stars, but it was cut short right. He still finds himself looking out to space and wondering how it could have gone. What it would have been like if his dream had come true.

---------

His childhood was one of the better ones. He had loving parents who encouraged his love of space. They too were astronomers, hence his name. They were so proud of him when he got accepted into his dream college, and even prouder when he graduated. They told everyone they knew about their baby boys' achievement. They were there for each presentation, speech, and lecture he gave both in school and during his career with NASA.

They took him out to observatories a lot as a child and told him everything they knew about the stars. They even sent him to space camps every summer, it was one of the things he always looked forward to most. The other kids thought he was weird, he was always so hyper at all hours of the day. But he didn't pay attention to them. He always had his head up, dreaming of the universe in front of him.

Relationships
Véronique | Girlfriend

His travel buddy, his girlfriend, his fellow lover of cheesy romance novels. Po is very protective of Véronique.

Jesper | Neighbor

Polaris and Jesper do NOT get along. Jesper's music bothers Po, and Po's entire being bothers Jes. They live in the same building and are both too stubborn to move out.

Ophelia | Close Friend

Polaris and Opehlia quickly bonded. Both being near the same age, they both had a life before the apocalypse. They often sit outside and talk about what could have been... and what may be to come. Polaris truly cares for Ophelia

Paloma | Adopted Daughter

Polaris is a father in all ways but blood. He took in young Paloma and gave her a home, stability, and a loving guide through the dangerous new world.
