Chance is the sole child of a single mother, Paige Mathews. He was born to a very young mother, one whom did what she could to provide for him. Despite the circumstances, he grew up with a decent upbringing in Azalea Town, located in the Johto region.
He never much liked the men his mom brought around, and each of them left for one reason or another. When he was 12 years old, his mom started to bring a new man around- Ramon. Apparently they were good high school friends, which was all Chance needed to hear before tuning out the rest.
The boy never connected the dots that his mom was dating Ramon. His thoughts were on the fact they were moving to the Alola region. Once settled into their new home on Akala Island, Chance saw more and more of Ramon. It was a realization later on that they had moved in with him.
Chance took time to explore his new home, and ends up witnessing a kidnapping attempt. He was able to intervene, saving Bree, a girl who'd become his friend through the coming weeks.
He learns about the dark side of Akala Island, that children have been going missing and nobody knows where they are. With Bree in tow, he begins to slowly unravel the truth behind the matter. The cult-like organization with a hive mind for the greater good, at any cost. The conspiracy of wealthy and powerful families with the same goals. That to some people, the end justifies the means.
Luckily for Chance, he's a willful boy who has his own sense of justice and truth- and he will never lose sight of it or himself.

The type of friends that fight and bicker to no end. They don't always see eye to eye, and they often end in a huff and not talking. It's all small arguments though, things kids throw out of proportion. No matter how much they argue, they still end up hanging out. Chance develops feelings for her midway through the story, but it will remain one sided. He desperately hides these feelings from everybody.

The only person that Chance ever fully relies on. He looks up to his mom, a single mother whose never rolled over for somebody else. She's got a strong backbone and will fight tirelessly for what she feels her and her son deserve. Chance hopes to fight for what he believes in too, just like her! Maybe sometimes she stresses him out though, because she's so fiery and will make a scene. She's also his only known family, as she's a foster child who was then adopted as a baby.

Chance has no clue this is his biological father, and meets Ramon thinking he's a random man dating his mom. Initially he dislikes Ramon simply because he is a new man, and not because Ramon did anything. Over time, Chance finds they have a lot in common, and the two end up having a much better father/son dynamic. Chance ends up interested in becoming a professor of sorts- just like his dad.

His cousin, though he doesn't learn this until later. Don is Ramon's nephew and somebody he's taken in. Between Chance and Don, it's just a lot of stress on Chance's behalf. Chance feels Don is a little too easygoing and relaxed for life, and is often nagging him for a plethora of reasons like not cleaning up after himself, ordering pizza four nights in a row, smoking weed. You name it, Chance has probably nagged Don about it. Still, they do get along! Chance grounds Don in reality a bit more, and Don helps loosen up Chance.

Logan easily won Chance over when the boy learned Logan was a detective, looking into the missing children of Akala Island. Chance honestly thinks he's really cool, and incredible for being able to cast secrets into the light, for all to understand. Chance relies a lot on Logan for support when he gets caught up in the organization kidnapping children. He's almost a second fatherly figure, or even a mentor of sorts.

Upon meeting, Chance immediately was unsettled by Celio. At first he thought he was just intimidated by a wealthy, serious man whose also Bree's dad. But he learns over time that Celio is directly involved in a scandal behind the scenes. He also begins to learn Celio is the most dangerous of all of Morgana's goons. This deeply disturbs Chance, since he's so closely connected to Bree. It's a tightrope walk getting the information necessary to take down the culty organization while also avoiding detection by Celio, whose constantly aware that Bree is off with Chance.
