Personality:
Just about what you'd expect from someone who spends most of his time hunched over parchment, either reading late into the night or toiling away at his own writing. But at the same time, he's got a sort of secret life he keeps hidden from others. He's bookish but not pretentious, a soft-spoken man who's more adventurous than he lets on, a loyal friend who keeps others at arms' length. He's a people-pleasure, but at the same time (brow furrowed in silent apology) he shies away from those who grow too close in certain ways.

Background:
Vishal was raised in an orphanage since he was found wandering the streets at about age 12. It wasn't an easy life, but he was loved and cared for well enough. He found his calling amongst books—interestingly enough, he knew how to read and write even as a poor, street-dwelling urchin—but never scrounged up enough coin to get much schooling done. He's very content in the position he's in now: toiling away primarily at busywork and keeping bookshelves organized.

Somehow he finds time to aid the local monster-hunting brigade he joined up with. He handles the research side of operations. He seeks out information on the monsters they deal with and picks apart invaluable truth from myth, recording it all for his friends to make use of out in the field.

Once in a while, he aids in actual hunts, although the others try not to make him go out too often. They've seen him at his clumsiest and most uncertain when he's out with them on the job... Surprisingly, he rarely gets hurt, and always seems to squirrel out of the scrapes he can get himself into. Once in a while, he manages to help out seemingly by accident. Or Dumb Luck. Maybe he's a lucky charm. He certainly doesn't seem to have enough backbone for violence—especially compared to the rest of the team, who all know better than to hesitate ending any non-human's life.

He can control/manipulate shadows as well as use them to teleport. they're secret powers shhhhh!

Appearance:
Vishal's a very unassuming figure. Whatever lean muscle build he has is often hidden under loose-ish layers, and he's also a tad on the short side. He tries to shave regularly, but he's usually sporting a (somewhat patchy) 5 o'clock shadow. He has sharp angles to his face, thin lips, pronounced cheekbones, a strong crook to his nose, and wears a large pair of glasses. His hair is black, very thick and wavy, and is a little past shoulder-length. It's often worn in a neat-ish ponytail or braid - mostly to keep it out of the way, since he's not one to be too concerned with his appearance.
