Profile

Caleb's proper name is Clean Bales of Cotton, derived from his original form's name Distorted Bale. The whole bale gimmick is based on "bales" of cotton since cotton was a historically important textile, and both Caleb and Distorted Bale are Domeses of Textiles (Domeses is a term to denote high importance or mastery of a subject in the government of Psytronius, one of my civilizations).

Why Distorted? It just sounded right, but he does look like a horrible, misshapen monster. Caleb's transformation is thus considered a purification of Distorted, since he had originally not wanted to look like a monster. However, against the will of Psytronius, he didn't strongly complain about it, but then the lead researcher Jeffereson offered a chance to undergo an experiment. He agreed.

And that's how we got the first iteration of Caleb, who crashed the World Machine via an ID overlap and for several minutes erased my entire original world, with the exception of the admin characters. So then Jefferson, after being politely told to not use all of his son's soul, kept in a small amount of Distorted Bale's soul, creating the stable Caleb we know and love today. Well, mostly stable, since he has a tendency to change his art style whenever you face away from him and his presence passively messes with the very substance of the multiverse.

Caleb itself means "dog" or "whole-hearted." Being a childish figure at heart, he is certainly a devoted follower of his father of sorts, Jefferson, giving his parent a blindly obedient sort of affection, one that drove him to shattering the mind of the current possessor of the soul of Jefferson's son, D'aillisioux, the Doll form of Jefferson's old son. Whatever Jefferson is displeased by, Caleb ought to be too, and Jefferson's resentment towards his failure to protect his original son caused Caleb to be heavily affected by it, ultimately resulting in his zealous action.

As for whole-hearted, you could take it in an ironic way since he's an amalgam of two souls: D'aillisioux and Distorted Bale. Well, more like the latter preventing the ID conflict that would be caused by a pure D'aillisioux replica, since Distorted Bale has demonstrated the ability to come out of Caleb in a variety of methods. That said, Caleb isn't exactly the nicest person either, especially because of his selfish tendencies, and he has little qualm with pranking or attacking people with his powers — that is to say, scrambling, glitching, and fractalizing their perception, or very existence if they are within World Machine. However, he is still deeply obedient to the other Domeses, and if told not to, he will refrain from any such nefarious actions.

Still, he has some compassion, and does a lot of fabric work at minimal cost since he's able to do it in seconds with little material; he and Distorted Bale will freely mend the clothing of any who come to them. On the other hand, after breaking D'aillisioux the first time, he realized how wrong his egocentric habits were, and has tried to make amends with him. Of course, that won't happen quickly and could be impossible outside of extraordinary circumstances, but he's making an effort.

He also represents Jefferson's state since his father of sorts is so distraught over his original son's death that he can't be whole-hearted, but Jefferson nonetheless makes a tireless effort to understand as much as he can so that he can make sure something like that never happens again. With the primordial nature of Caleb, though, he has probably created something that he can't ever understand, since he was made with a poorly-researched material.

Said material is the very fabric that makes up the universe. Or at least, Caleb insists that that's the only way for the mortal mind to comprehend it without snapping, and he has claimed that his ability to distort someone out of existence is him forcing the universe to reabsorb them in a maddening kaleidoscope of sensations. He can even change it from a euphoric demise witnessing the splendor and creativity of the universe, to one of terrible agony as one's mind is inundated with the universe's grandiose scale.
