His eyes are very light blue, almost unnaturally so.
He is pretty average height, and fit, usually wears a fitted suit, silk ties and sneakers.
About: To put it simple, John is an immortal. Cursed by the local temple's wellspring goddess back in the pre mesopotamic era, he's lived a long and exciting life. He's been to countless wars, traveled the world and been through all sorts of lives.I answered an ask on tumlr and its good plz read.
JD was a city guard, he wasn’t exactly set to guard the temple specifically, but being from one of the nearby towns.
He probably did guard the temple at some later points, when not training new guards and such.
She was a water goddess, i’m not gonna drop any names since i’m not very well versed in ancient mesopotamian religion, and this is all pretty much made up, but imagine her with a sorta typical ‘Daughter of water god’ status.
Her temple over a wellspring of fresh water from the mountains. She wasn’t a major deity, but she definitely wanted to be. she was one of those who aim for the stars and use her people as stepping stones.
She thought her water was the only thing keeping the nearby villages green and fertile, she had convinced many others of this. And like many other water deities had a bit of a temper.
Being very popular, i guess it got to her head a bit. Often getting to take her pick of men in the past, usually the high priests and other temple workers, since hey getting to bone a goddess isnt a thing for the common ilk.
But she spotted him on guard duty and wanted a piece of that tan ass.
She even had summoned him to her temples inner chambers to try to get her will. But john being a bit of a killjoy, wasn’t a fan of how much of the towns resources went to the priests and the temples. To put it simply. He was not very interested at all.
Now, being used to everyone down on a knee and doing your bidding, the goddess, was pissed off. Threatening John that she’d put a curse on him, she would make him suffer the rest of his life! John, knowing that he’d probably die in his 30′s and as a guard he was probably not gonna last much longer anyway. went “Fine, its not forever, ill manage.”
She was furious! But, i guess what JD said gave her an idea.
When john died, he wouldn’t. He would return to live again, and return to her. Since she was the only other one with eternal life nearby, and he would have to pick her, right? He would lose everyone he loved in the sands of time and then he’d have to return to her.
Good plan.
If only it worked.
John did live surprisingly long before he kicked the bucket, he was 43 when it first happened. His region got invaded and almost everyone but the women and children were killed off, things where burned and pillaged and John woke up in the rubble, with the intense memory of getting peltered with arrows and getting an axe to his neck.
Well to say he panicked might be an understatement, but he pretty much decided that oh fuck, this has to be a second chance and i gotta rescue my wifey! Because that’s the sort of heroics the stories tell of.
He tried to follow the tracks of the raiders into the desert until he died of exposure, waking back up in the village ruins like some fucked up personal ground hog day.
Rummaging the ruins and gearing up, he went after the tracks again, a bit more prepared this time around. He got to the next city by foot, spread the word about what had happened, and went out again, but eventually tracks vanish, and time passes.
Time without a devoted following and prayers doesn’t do well for lesser gods. The area getting raided gave people living in the surrounding area less offerings to give the water goddess, and less time to pray, and eventually her powers started to slip from her, the well dried up, and the temple crumbled to stone and dust. The only one who could lift the curse, now gone.
John learned to slowly live with it, finding out that if he found himself a new place he truly considered home, death placed him there instead of the ruins, a win for him as he later found out its a mind thing and he can make it work with hotel rooms. ‘there’s no place like home’
Each death would also mean less and less to him, what was first a massive trauma and an actual fear for him, eventually turned into a minor setback or an easy way out of debt or imprisonment, to a way to relax and refresh.
And thus John decided to slowly build up an empire of his own.
