N ot quite quiet, not quite unsociable, but not polite either. Charismatic on request, apple of your eye. Just enough to be passable as a working member of society in the eyes of those that matter. You won't find sincerity here easily, but you'll find what you want to see – if you're somebody who bothers with that sort of thing.
It's not that he lacks sincerity, or that he feels nothing - what, do you think he's a doll? It's just that... well, you do what you have to for survival. Even if that does amount to becoming someone's puppet at face value.
When you find yourself alone with him, however, don't expect to see any of that carefully maintained elegy. The face he keeps up is for the benefit of a larger group, not for internalizing. When away from eyes connected to those of his guardians, you'll find that those careful smiles hid away a sharp tongue, an honesty that cuts if you expected flattery. He has an especial disdain for people who falsify themselves in privacy.

Now, he doesn't completely lack good traits. Eclis is, overall, observant, loyal, and clever. His honesty may be scathing, but it is never full of undue opinions; he only gives honest opinions to those he thinks highly of, and typically, only when asked. More than that, it's a result of observation – Eclis pays high attention to all that's around him, from people to environments. Some may consider it obsessive, the way he refuses to let go of any little detail. When put to best use, it's used for the benefit of those he cares about - to assuage worries, soothe anxieties, and raise their self esteem where necessary. When used well, it becomes almost altruistic.
His loyalty – is it hard-won, or simple? Starved for love, Eclis takes to those who see him - or really, make an attempt to - as a freezing man takes to fire. The double-edged sword of his personality comes into play twice here. First - it is difficult to win his love without annoying him, if your method is to take at him like a battering ram. Don't treat him like a commodity. Secondly, when freezing, one is not careful about how close they climb into the fire. Eclis loves in a way that eclipses his own self, giving people he cares about more leeway than they'd ever wish for. He sees himself terribly, really.
As for being clever , that's both nothing special and something carefully constructed to be nothing special. Eclis has all the typical markings of intelligence - a good memory, and a fluid mental connectivity to go with it. On top of that, though, there's the nights spent poring over textbooks, the lack of sleep and callouses that come from making perfection seem effortless.
It's tiring, but he can't let himself slip.

Nobody is perfect, least of all him. Eclis is closed-off, selfish and controlling. He often doesn't find the energy to go out of his way in befriending people - in fact, talking to him, you'll quickly find him closed-off in a manner that keeps everyone at arms length. He doesn't bother with being outright rude to people, yet still manages to insult them with a baseline level of indifference. Maybe if he thought some more about it, maybe if others did, they'd recognize it for what it is.
Yet, still. When he wants something, when he truly wants to fight for something, he'll dig his nails in, using whatever means he has possible to keep it. He's selfish, aware of this fault enough to feel guilty about it when alone but not willing to stop. In his world, the sheep is safer taking on the skin of the wolf. There's an inevitability to his mindset, something like understanding a cycle, something like accepting it while resisting it.

A kid is standing between two strangers. They speak to him while patting his head. On paper, they are now his aunt and uncle, responsable for his life.
He doesn't know who they are. His parents had no family, it's why he ended up here. Behind the door, pink eyes stare at him, at the strangers. Eclis stares back, squeezing his uncle's hand.

You recognize yourself in him just as he does you, and neither will ever speak of it – though won't hide it either. He won't let you drift off, not in that way. No, you won't be able to get your way.

An excess of studying on top of an already sharp memory means it's rare for Eclis to forget much of what he's seen - from birthdays of friends to facts about the environment. Regardless, he still likes to save important notes on calendars or voice recordings.
