BACKSTORY

BEFORE THE GAME

Born in Savannah, Georgia, Nicholas came to the sleepy town of Briarville as an escape from unfortunate circumstances. Working to graduate high school early at 16 to escape a transphobic family, he was offered a full ride scholarship to the local Preston University, where he earned his PhD in Classical History and now teaches. While attending Preston, he changed his legal name and medically transitioned under the nose of his family, having essentially been stealth for several years now.

WELCOME TO BRIARVILLE

During his time as a professor at Preston, he became the sponsor of the University's Occult Club. While attending a seance hosted by the members, Nicholas got wrapped into a world of the paranormal becoming normal, with the murder and ghost of one of his students. Since bringing her rest, he's worked alongside a handful of the town's other residents to learn the truth of the town, learning more about his station as one of Preston's faculty and his role in the town along the way.

RELATIONSHIPS

EVELYN WARD
Trusted Friend

"A clever girl, I'm amazed by her prowess." He's probably her biggest cheerleader sans Rosalyn, at first he was disgusted by her experiments but now sees their worth and encourages them. They understand each other on a level that others tend to see as odd, but he considers Evelyn more as a family member than anyone he's related to. Sees a world of potential in her, but also worried about her safety.

DAPHNE WINTHROP
Trusted Friend

"She's said her piece, though I do believe she's a bit hypocritical." Much the same as Evelyn, but for the longest time Daphne insisted on applying moral judgement to the occult, something he grew tired of, but lawyers, right? He sees her as an invaluable friend, and a go-to gossip buddy. Her house makes him nauseous with how expensive everything is, though.

BEAU GREENE
Boyfriend

"It's unfortunate, our circumstances, but at least we're together, hm?" His anchor in all of this mess. He came into his life at a very difficult time, and apparently the reverse is true in Beau's perspective, so he's to thank for the fact that Nicholas has kept his emotional stability this long. Despite all of his insisting, he will not let him go investigating by himself. He won't let anyone do that, but he's the only one who's asking!

ROSALYN THORNE
Consistent Vibe Checker

"Passion rules reason." He puts up with her, plainly. He knows Evelyn has a fondness for her, but their philosophical differences on the use of magic has turned him away from her, though he tries to not make that public. Frankly, he reads it that Rosalyn doesn't think he's up to the task of tackling the occult, and he is in no way fond of being thought less of like that. Only thing he can do about it, though, is prove her wrong.
