Powers
Healing Factor
About
Avery has the ability to heal wounds within a few seconds up to a few hours, depending on the severity of the injury. Theres about a five second delay between when he originally gets the injury and when it heals itself, and the healing is accompanied by a mist that rises off his blood, making a small hissing noise, barely noticeable when not in a quiet room. Any spilled blood also evaporates.
Avery does, however, have a dead zone on the right half of his head where his healing factor does not work. He cannot regrow limbs once they have been cut off.
Physical Effects
Avery's healing factor is always accompanied by a haze, likely water vapor, rising off of both the wound as well as any spilled blood. The amount of smoke varies depending on the severity of the injury.
Personality
Introverted . Childish . Passionate
Avery has two sides to his personality. The first, and much more noticeable quiet and dejected side. Avery has been through a lot and he tends to keep to himself when he's in an unfamiliar or potentially daunting situation. However, this is a side of him that friends and family are unfamiliar with.
The Avery that reveals itself when he's around friends and family is much more fun-loving. He's reckless and childish, he always speaks his mind no matter how it could be taken by others. He's very much like a cat, everything he sees belongs to him. It's not uncommon for his friends to come home only to find he somehow let himself into their room and is now sitting on their bed using their laptop. That's just how he is, and at this point, they've all just accepted it.
Avery is very opinionated. He has a strong sense of justice and believes that everyone should be punished for any wrongs they commit. He wants to help everyone he can and it leads him to, in the future, become not only an activist but a well respected and high ranking soldier.

History
Avery was born to what he thought were two loving parents, Frank Rodriguez and Lucrezia Welsh. In school, he found himself the target of bullying from elementary school all the way up until high school. Despite his and his parents' numerous attempts to fix the problem, every time one bully was dealt with, two more were there in their place. Avery was miserable and resorted to cutting himself as his way of venting. This habit continued on for years until his parents approached him with a deal that could keep him from being bullied ever again. If he allowed himself to be experimented on by his parents' place of work, Future Tech, he could be turned into a superhero. However, after a tour of the facilities, Avery was horror-stricken to find the poor and, in most cases, deadly conditions the experiments lived in and he refused to take part. His father agreed to help get him out of it, but, after his mother initiated the final procedure to turn Avery into an experiment, his father was faced with a choice. He could allow Avery to be taken, or he could try and stop them and both he and Avery would be experimented on. Avery's father broke his promise and Avery was thrown into a Future Tech cell. A few days after he was taken in, Avery began talking with his cell-neighbor, Jonah Tarbor. The two formed a close friendship and, as life got worse and worse for the two of them, they were able to keep each other strong enough to get through it. One day, after a particularly brutal day of testing, Avery noticed that all of his cutting scars had vanished and, testing out his assumption by stabbing a knife through his palm, he learned that he had an almost instantaneous healing factor. A few weeks after learning about this, Avery was taken into an operation room. The woman experimenting on him, Soma, didn't knock him out beforehand and the last thing he remembered was a scalpel cutting into the cheek just below his eye before he passed out. After the surgery, as his face healed, Avery began to notice lapses in his memory. They became longer and more frequent until one day, he blacked out for a much longer amount of time than he ever had before.
Role in Power Pills
Avery, being controlled by a microchip implanted in his brain, was sent to attack a man who was rumored to have mind controlling powers. Avery was able to find the man, but in the end he was defeated. The man Avery had been sent to fight managed to free him from the control of the microchip and Avery woke up in a hospital bed where the man introduced himself as Caleb Budde. It was there that Avery learned that the scalpel cutting he remembered from a few weeks ago had left a ghastly scar circling the entire right side of his head. He had a breakdown in front of Caleb, who promised to help him in any way he could. But, Avery was still being tried by the state for his attacks from when he was under the influence of the microchip. He was found guilty, even with Caleb testifying for him, however, a mysterious pardon from the governor managed to free him. He moved in with Caleb's friend, Travis, while his new foster parents were being found and Avery settled into the group pretty quickly.
About a month later, after two more of his friends, Guy and Kate, ran into a second superhero, Wax Guise, Avery helped his friends attempt to figure out the identity of the hero, however, they didn't find much luck until the man who had given Caleb his powers appeared next to Avery and Caleb. The man gave the two Wax Guise's address and Caleb and Avery set off to find him. However, Wax Guise, or Dan, assumed Avery was still with Future Tech and as soon as he heard that Avery had appeared on his doorstep, he ran. Avery and Caleb chased Dan down and explained what was going on. Dan then gave the two of them a lift back to his apartment as an apology where they were introduced to Dan's friends.
Later that month, Avery finally moved in with his new foster parents, an older coupled named Julia and Reed Overmott. They seemed extremely nice and they accepted Avery as their new son in a heartbeat. It was also in this month that Avery, after an unfortunate accident with a villain and a metal pole through the chest, learned that his healing factor had officially returned after almost a full month of absence.
This is the story thus far...

Design Notes
- Although I draw Avery's scar very cutesy, it is actually a swollen mess. For reference, look at Heath Ledger's Joker without his makeup.
- Honestly, just... don't draw Avery with his piercings in. They're basically impossible for him to have with his healing factor. I just haven't taken them off his ref sheet yet.
- Avery's brown eye turns purple when his microchip is active.
Appearance
Avery has long, shaggy black hair with a long fringe that he uses to cover the right half of his face. This fringe hides a surgical scar that circles almost the entire right half of his head. His scarred eyelid is too swollen to open all the way. Avery's left eye is a natural brown color while his right eye is an artificial purple.
Avery really loves to wear button-downs and black pants. And, of course, checkered vans.
Relationships
Family
Absolutely precious. Avery is the son she never had the chance to raise and she loves him dearly.
Reed cares for Avery deeply. Though he's quieter about it than Julia.
Avery still feels the betrayal of how she gave him up for something as petty as a raise.
Avery's dad was always nicer to him than his mom, but he still betrayed Avery in the end.
Others
Travis and Avery only lived together for about a month, but they are close enough to be brothers.
Unknowingly, Caleb is one of Avery's many father figures.
Jonah was the only reason Avery managed to get through his time at Future Tech.
Avery declared that he liked Guy the first time they met and this stance has not changed a bit.
Kate helped Avery find his current foster parents, she's almost like a secondary guardian.
Merri is Travis' girlfriend, and as such, he sees her around a lot. They bonded over Travis.
Enemies
If April didn't exist, Avery would have never gone through what he did at Future Tech and he will never forget that.
Soma was the one who experimented on Avery for half a year. He has literal and psychological scars from her.
