In 1962, a decorative art designer was working on concepts for new figurines to mass produce. Many of the designs were scrapped or left unfinished. One of these was a humanoid deer figurine, colored in a celadon-green glaze, with long legs and a kind face. Sculpted in three parts, the middle piece was never colored before the artist scrapped the design. The pieces were tossed in a box and shoved in the back of a closet for a very long time.

In 1995, the artist was moving out of his home. He packed all his things, but left behind the dusty old box of scrapped figurines. And as it can happen when an idea is so forgotten, the deer figurine was imbued wih new life as a sketchwork. Coughing up dust in complete darkness, their birth into the world was an unpleasant one. The deer stumbled their way out of the closet and outside into the yard, seeing the sun for the first time. They saw their green legs shine in the sunlight, and so named themselves Celadon after the green hue.

These days, Celadon lives a pretty normal life for a 20-something, delivering food to pay the rent on their little aparment. They're kind and empathetic, always ready to share a warm meal or an entertaining story.
