Personality

Suiren at first glance is someone who may come off as eccentric, free-thinking and very dreamlike and sleepy. She often is in a world of her own, and cares little about her surroundings. A social-butterfly at heart as she can ramble about the silliest things, or whatever is on her mind at the moment. The type to often be seen talking to herself or to objects such as plants or a seashell. A lady with an imaginative mind that seems to wander off at the slightest of things. She will easily change the subject of whatever she is thinking of or speaking of for something that suddenly catches her interest without a care in the world. A person who can easily be bored, and seeks out something else to catch her interest at all times. Immediately forgetting about what she was talking about earlier. She can come off as a bit air-headed in that sense. Despite coming off as someone who isn’t aware of their surroundings and is naive, she surprisingly knows a lot more than she lets on and is a bit of a risk-taker. She’s very open to new opportunities that give her a chance to experience something new, making her very adaptable to situations but being foolish in the sense she has little care for the risks and follows her heart always. She may come off as a bit vain/self-absorbed in terms of her appearance, as appearance and attention are very important to her. She enjoys being in the spotlight and being noticed. Always trying to catch the attention of anyone to have a conversation with. Beauty is everything to her no matter what form and timeline she is currently in. As an umidebito she craved the idea of her image going around, offering salvation to others. She takes high care in the way she presents herself. Despite her being self-absorbed appearance wise, she is incredibly kind towards others. Enjoying listening to others, and offering advice through /her cards/. She feels emotions quite strongly, and is the type to shed tears after hearing something sad. One may think she is very superstitious of omens (she is), but she mostly just likes to help even for a bit using her abilities as a yokai. Even if the things she may say are silly, if it got a smile out of the other person, she feels like she succeeded ! However, She doesn’t speak much about herself, quick to change the conversation when it's turned on her. There’s no particular reason other than the fact that she was taught to keep anything about herself as private. It takes a lot to get her talking about herself.

About
TL:DR

TL: DR: Human/Yokai child is born and is taken back into the seas with yokai mom. There she learns to use her abilities and watches over the world in seclusion until she one day comes across her very old human father who tells her the truth before passing away. Thus, making her want to live the ‘human’ side of her life. From there on she travels throughout the timeline under different appearances/aliases, trying to find and experience ‘the exciting’ parts of life without the need of having to see the future. She finally ends up at Daybreak Manor and truly lives as herself.
Part I

Suiren comes from a line of umidebito dating back to the 19th century when the rise of sightings of the umidebito were prominent. As things started to expand, they decided to expand their locations as well. Thus, She is considered a 2nd generation yokai, her mother being one of the originals dating back to the edo period. Little is known about them as the umidebito were known to hide out deep in the sea with no contact from the outside other than to give out prophecies to the humans. All sharing the same visual form in order to get their message across as beings that offered salvation during trying times. Because of this most of them do not know what goes on in the outside world, however their prophecies shed a little light to them.

Suiren is the child of an umidebito and a human who had fallen in love with her mother at first site. They were lovers until Suiren was born, and that’s when her mother took her away to the sea when she was younger as she was born with the dragon/fish like scales on her lower body. Deeming it impossible for their daughter to live as a human despite her husband's protests, she left in the middle of the night daughter in hand. There she was taught how to use her prophetic skills while living amongst them in secrecy deep in the ocean. The big difference in Suiren was that she was able to take on a human form unlike the others when she walked on the surface, she never told her mother this though-in fear of how she’d react. This caused her to be quite curious about the outside world that she found herself listlessly floating about up in the sea to watch humans pass by.

Part II

It was fascinating to see how easily they would agree to spreading their image for the salvation they promised. But she felt pain when they suffered even with the help of their so-called prophecies. Especially when it came to the sicknesses foretold to plague them. The way they would panic at the idea of not spreading their image would result in a cruel fate for them. She couldn't help but feel bad but others relished in their fame. She sometimes would sneak out to view the world and walk amongst them, seeing the illustrations that were drawn of them after a sighting that people used as good luck charms. Though at the end of the day, they were prophecies that sometimes came true and sometimes didn't. She couldn’t help but feel bad for the human race as she slipped back into the seas, safe and sound. But after quite some time she found herself bored of the same routines. Was there nothing more than just prophecies for the human race? only to see them suffer time and time again? As time went on, the world started to grow and the need for them and their prophecies seemed to dwindle as they mostly were popular amongst small farmers. They decided to spread out once more in hopes to gain more chances to deliver their prophecies.

It was until during one trip on the surface, as she waited for a fisherman to come by to heed a warning . She came across someone who she never thought to have met. Her father, who was looking listlessly for his wife and child for years, was now old and withered. “Suiren”, He had called her, it was a name that her mother only called her when they were alone. Unlike her and her mother who haven’t aged a day he was on the brink of death. It was then she learned about the truth about herself, a half human yokai. As if it was it’s own cruel twist of fate, her father had passed on that very ship, content with having one final look at his daughter. She wept and felt sadness like never before, human lives were so fragile she realized. Perhaps this was it’s own prophecy, for herself.

Part III

It was then she decided to live amongst the humans. Running away from home, tired of having these prophecies decide the fate of others. She left a letter to her mother, scared that she would deny her leave. She wanted to live free. Thus began a long journey of living on her own, under various alias, jobs and the like. The only thing she had to go off of was what her father had left for her under the family name of Shiraishi. It kept her hidden for a while. But the world evolved as fast as it could, and although she still retained and used her powers, she felt guilty so often would find herself back in the ocean for years, doing her job as the yokai she was. Hoping to aid and warn those in need. She couldn't face her mother still and tell her about the human legs she had been able to use the whole time. But during one of her returns to the ocean she soon realized that her mother had passed from the disappearance of her daughter. She wept painfully for a second time, deciding that she would finally just live her life as human as possible as she left the ocean and traveled about once more.

Eventually she came across a manor that she had heard gossip about from a yokai she had met during her travels. Daybreak Manor. Where people- yokai- such as herself could live as they try to assimilate into the modern world. Tired of traveling all over the place to try and find a place called ‘ home’ in this world and a reason for her existing, she decided to stay at the manor.

In today’s current time, she has decided to go and use the name she’s been avoiding all her life since she left the ocean, because it reminded her of who she was /Shiraishi, Suiren/. All the alias and appearances in the world never felt as strong as this one. Hoping to make a proper life for this name of hers that she’ll remember and cherish . She had attended and graduated XX University during this timeline as well in hopes to learn more about the human world. She’s made several friends and relishes in the warmth of the world today. She now works at the nearby Cafe Spoon at the bar at night. Either working as a bartender and listening to the woes of others as she offers a tarot reading or occasionally singing a song or two for entertainment. Not scrapping her power entirely she also runs an anonymous blog where she foretells ‘prophecies’ in exchange for the spreading of a silly mascot drawing of a conch shell. In her own way she feels as if she’s still helping out while remembering her mother and father. While also enjoying being in the presence of fellow yokai and hearing their tales.
