theodoric, called terry, came over from ireland when he was very young with his wealthy agriculture family. he was brought up in saint denis, educated by the Franciscan order there and was intended by his parents to become a nun. knowing that wasn’t his future, he enlisted the aid of his teachers and was spirited out of saint denis to find freedom.
it wasn’t easy- he needed to find work and needed to scrounge to survive, but he did it as terry, and he did it free to decide who he was. it was often more difficult for him than for others- he was born mute, and while he was able to learn sign language at his school, he largely is forced to rely on charades and writing his communications. it’s led to a sort of lonely life, but terry has grown independent and doesn’t mind all that much.
he has two significant friends- abel (alias caspar abel) and his boyfriend, seb.
he’s a bit of a curmudgeon and keeps to himself most of the time. he’s more or less an excellent cook (decided he might as well enjoy what he eats, after reading what recipes he can find and working in kitchens from time to time), and fills time between work feeding himself from fishing and odd jobs around town. he’s respected. doesn’t keep much company. is an intensely private person.
he has a couple of secrets: is a secret cowboy/outlaw/gang enthusiast and collects newspaper clippings. also has a single trashy romance novel tucked under his mattress that’s worn from being read so many times. keeps a journal, collects flowers & other sundry pieces of nature that catch his attention.
