Max Mustang

The young stallion known as Maximillian Mustang was born and raised by his loving parents; his mother Iris and his father Flint.  This little family was part of a relatively small town known as "Green Hills" located in the western part of Equestria.  Max's parents owned a boarding house that ponies who were working in the crop fields but lacked housing would stay in.  When Max was born, he was born with a different type of muzzle.  One that resembled a mare, rather than a stallions.  This different muzzle would become the target of choice for bullies, making it hard or impossible for Max to have ever made any friends his age, thus he felt always alone.  His family did their best to help him, but with his mother having obtained a rare and likely incurable illness that makes her body weak from time to time and his father being busy to help her and their home, it wasn't easy.  But everything changed the day he earned his Cutie Mark, and his path to his destiny had begun.  Visiting an exhibition of the Royal Knights (a force that is similar to the Royal Guards, but they know how to fight) a Dragon attacked the place and was ready to get Max, till a Sonic Rainboom helps unlock something hidden inside.  Later in the day, found by his family, he was surprised to be greeted by Princess Celestia herself, offering him a chance to train and become a Royal Knight, the first Earth Pony in years since the disbandment of the original EUP force.  Though looked down by other officers, one becomes his personal trainer, Commander Lexington, a pony who trust and is trusted by Princess Celestia.

Unlike other Ponies around Equestria, his role in Equestria becomes something much bigger than any others... for he was the current Guardian of Light (similar to the Avatar Cycle from the Avatar animated series, but unlike the Avatar, he cannot connect to the past ponies who were Guardians).  Granted with a powerful connection to Light, his role as Guardian of Light is to preserve the balance between Light and Dark and defend the world from anyone who would break this balance.  He was the first Guardian of Light to have appeared in around 1000 years, with the last one being a Crystal Pony Stallion named Validus, who disappeared right at the same time as the Crystal Empire disappeared.  Though the Guardian of Light has existed for many millennium, it was only a few Guardians prior to Max who shared his light with 6 other Ponies, the Pillars of Old, and planted the seeds to which will become the Tree of Harmony, thus the strong connection with the Elements of Harmony and the Guardians.  Their power together allows Max to temporarily transform into an Alicorn with enhanced powers of Light.

Having met his very first friend, who was actually not interested in friendship, Twilight Sparkle, he has become loyal to her and willing to help out in any way he can.  Soon enough, his friends evolve to many, many other ponies and species, including the other Mane 6; Rainbow Dash, Applejack, Fluttershy, Pinkie Pie, and Rarity, including other characters like; Spike, Starlight Glimmer, Sunset Shimmer, Princess Luna, Princess Celestia, even Discord (though it was a rough start).  Even so, he still is very close to Twilight Sparkle, so much that he develops deep feelings for her, though it's unsure how far those feelings had gone, even years later when Twilight has become the new Princess of Equestria.  He's also very caring for his family, including his new younger sister, Hope, who was born sometime after Max left to train.

Though he is very determined to protect everyone, it has also become something as a fault, for he is willing to risk everything, even his life to protect anyone he wants to, which nearly causes him to lose his life in many different adventures or to be at least very injured.  Because he's willing to help out a lot, he may need to be stopped by someone else when they need to solve this themselves.  His power was also dependent by the bond he shares with his friends.  Should that bond ever be severed or even injured, it could prove to be troubling, even fatal, for the fact that this light power is what is keeping him alive.
