Profile

3315. 80% of Earth's surface had been reduced to dry grassland and scorched desert. Few cities remained to house the mere millions of humans still alive, including a young Odessa Thompson. As a kid, Odessa would spend her days in the sun and dirt, chasing lizards and befriending the stray cats. She always had an interest in animals. Odessa would doodle animals on her schoolwork and her room was full of aged books depicting great beasts of a past time. Lush rivers and emerald jungles were all but legend to Odessa, but they fascinated her - no image or virtual world could satisfy her desire to see it in person.

3319. Earth was dying. Humanity had known for generations and it seemed like all hope was lost. Odessa was just starting highschool. In January of the new year, leading scientists finally revealed to the world their plan for survival. A distant solar system with signs of life, and eleven massive ships in the final stages of preparation. All they were missing were pioneers - volunteers willing to explore the new planet. In that moment, Odessa had found her calling.

3323. Odessa was 18 years old and graduating at the top of her class. Humanity was saying goodbye to Earth and looking towards their new home. Aerliss. Odessa boarded her city's ship, The Champion, and watched Earth fade into the cosmos.

4863. The travel to Aerliss took a millenium, but Odessa was only awake for six years. Between periods of cryosleep, Odessa would help maintain the ship and spend long days training, studying, and preparing. Only one ship, The Legacy, failed during launch. The other ten ships landed safely on Aerliss. The large planet was completely different from Earth. Its cool, humid atmosphere surrounded continents of brilliant, vibrant green and deep azure oceans. Odessa was assigned as a field biologist, tasked with explorig the wildnerness and documenting the native wildlife. She couldn't have been more excited to fulfill her dreams.

Day one and humanity quickly learned that their journey wasn't over. They learned that they had entered somebody else's home, unannounced and unwelcomed. Dragons, as the native life were called, greeted humanity with open maws.

Humanity's struggle for survival has just begun.

Odessa Thompson

26 . she / her . draconologist

Odessa stands at 180cm with dark, freckled skin and brown eyes. She has short, curly dark brown hair that is often kept in a bun. If loose, it falls just above her shoulders. Her fashon is a mix of streetwear, art hoe, and techwear. She likes to accessorize and has many earrings, necklaces, and a pair of round glasses.

Odessa always carries a worn leather messenger bag made by her father. It contains sketchbooks, pencils, survival tools, and souveneirs from work.

Character

optimistic . determined . chatty

Odessa is extremely passionate about her line of work. She has incredible work ethic and is determined to succeed. She gets very excited when people ask about her research and could ramble for hours if given the chance. "Non-Stop" from Hamilton - she keeps writing, keeps exploring, keeps going and excels despite the situation being so dire.

Mother - Works a minor management / accounting position on The Champion. Keeps tabs on supplies and people.
Father - Mechanic. Used to be a repairman, now he helps maintain the ships. Very busy.
Dominic - Odessa's younger brother, about 12 years old. Student.
Olive - The family's cat, 8 years old. Brown tonkinese. Very sweet towards their family, hisses and grumbles at anyone else.

Trivia

forum games . qna . etc

Fears overestimating herself. She fears doing too much - going too far, coming off as overbearing or annoying, being too much. This applies to social/familial relationships as well as within her line of work. If Odessa becomes overconfident and bites off more than she could chew, she could very easily endanger her coworkers and end up dead herself. Wild dragons are not an easy subject to study. She also gets intimidated by vast, dark spaces - deep water and caves freak her out a little bit, but I wouldn't call it a phobia.

She doesn't like talking about Earth. Sure, it's where humans came from, but they are on Aerliss now. It's time to look forward.

It's very easy for Odessa to ramble, go on tangents, and find something new to talk about, especially if it's about her research.

She doesn't like loud noises.

There are lots of risks in Odessa's job since there are dozens of dragons happy to prey on humans while lacking any learned fear towards them that many predators on Earth have. Odessa got her education as a regular field biologist since the discovery of dragons wasn't made until after they landed. Some precautions Odessa takes now are some pretty rigorous self-defense and survival classes, learning to use multiple weapons, and effective teamwork! Teams need to be able to communicate and work together effectively if they want to return home.

Aerliss was overwhelming for a lot of people, including Odessa! She had never seen so much green before and once she got over her original shock, Odessa was just full of excitement. Same reaction when it came to dragons - shock, amazement, fear, curiosity, excitement. In that order. There were plenty of reptile species remaining on Earth that Odessa had studied, and dragons on Aerliss are fairly reptilian. She met her first dragon a few days after The Champion landed, once the dust had settled and the wildlife became curious about the ships. It was probably some small, bird-like dragon. As for a dragon companion - maybe! Odessa's primary job is field research - discovering new species and learning how wild populations behave. There may be some other scientists learning how to tame and domesticate dragons. If that happens, I'm sure Odessa would like to adopt one for herself.

Great with kids! However, her idea of an adventure might make the parents of the kids cry. Odessa loves to talk about her passion and knows kids love to learn, so she would gladly march into the wilderness with her little ducklings and ramble on and on about the various species of dragons around them. Answering all their questions. Making sure she wasn't traveling too far from safety, although she would definitely joke about how easily a dragon could kill a man, haha.

If she were a HTTYD dragon, she would be a Gronkle!
