“The Scout (탐색꾼, 探索꾼, tamsaegkkun) is the Position for literally scouting. They move ahead of the group, observe the environment and situation. They also aid the Fishermen as a secondary offense.”

About

Patient and calculating, Shin-Won never goes into a battle without having more than a few backup plans up in his sleeves. A boy of few words, by choice, since he prefers to meticulously choose the right moment to intercede. Even so, those close to him end up realizing that, despite his quiet and uptight nature, the boy is surprisingly tender, and as soon as he becomes attached, he tends to seek physical contact more regularly. Once he finds people he sincerely trusts, he stays loyal and injuring one of them can lead to rare moments where Shin-Won truly loses his usual patient demeanor. In the beginning, he had a hard time following advice or orders directly from the light-bearer, which led to some miscommunication between both parties, a predicament that could be lethal given his role. It took him a bit but he started to be more collaborative once he had the chance to talk it through with his team member, hoping to reach a mutual agreement. As of now, he learned to be in sync with his leader’s plan, following it rigorously, only adjusting it if the circumstances ask for it. He is fairly conscious of his flaws and mistakes and instead of dwelling on it, he chooses to learn from them. It took a bit to do so, but being a smart fellow he quickly got to the conclusion that he gains far more if he just accepts as a part of him and works on doing better. This fact only starts to be more frequent once he got over his initial distrust for the team.

He can be quite snarky when he feels like it, throwing remarks around and mocking some specific behavior he finds idiotic. While he has toned it down with his fellow teammates, others are another story and if truly wants to, he can crush a person’s spirit with a few words of his. Through the years, Shin-Won gained more of a hostile aura, especially towards strangers or even seemingly friendly individuals. The years of battles certainly had an impact on the boy’s persona, which as a result made him more cautious and alert of the growing dangers that surrounded each and every one of the higher floors. He grew a bit paranoid about everyone’s safety and when stressed he checks every lock of their headquarters more than once.

Backstory

Shin was born into a relatively small family, which belonged to a specific humanoid race known by their pointy ears and soft hair. Their tribe also stands out for their quick thinking, intellect, and mental strength, with a couple of fellows being blessed with a strong build to boost. The boy, however, had quite the fragile body, something he, unfortunately, got from his kind but sick mother, which become more noticeable as he grew up, because of it Gim spent most of his childhood either in his room, where his mom would bring him any book she could get her hand on, to keep her child entertained or in and out of hospital facilities on the floor they lived on. His condition only got worse, with no one that could tell what he had for sure and no treatment in the near future, at the young age of five, Shin finally lost his already reduced mobility, becoming bed bound. Only years later would he finally find out he had a spine deformity since birth- treatment was a possibility, sometimes he so deeply desired, but the reality was not that kind, years of muscle damage were already too big and expensive to be fixed with therapy, and so a very expensive cirurgy to put things back in their place was the only option, money his family did not have or could never managed to get their hands on. By now, Shin was already used to being by himself, alone with his thoughts and books, his lifelong companions that taught everything, even though in his worse days, Gim would curse to the gods, to the pages he so dearly would on too, because he could never experience the things they described by himself, feel the air of the upper floors, witness the most fantastic but terrifying creatures the tower sheltered. He would often scuff at the children that passed by his window running around without a care of the world, how jealous he was. “One day, you will also run like them”, his mother used to say, his sweet but naive mother, she could never accept the reality her son lived so she always tried her best to fuel that little and rare shine on his eyes, the guilt on her soul often whispering she was the one at fault for Shin’s weak body, so the least she could do was to keep looking, looking for someone that could help them.

Trivia

  • Shin absolutely despises being picked up, even after making such a thing clear, by means of slapping his teammate Kang, he still finds himself being picked off the ground without his consent, more times than he would like to.
  • In another universe/fandom, Shin has potential to become a villain, mainly to gather money for his mother's hospital bills.
  • With the years, Shin gains a better fashion sense. knowing what to dress and how to as a way to maintain his status among the other rankers.
  • Despite all the fights and arguments, he knows if anything was ever to happen to him Kang would protect the team in his place.
  • Jenah is his favourite tea lover person and no one can change his mind on that.

EUNHWA Jenah Azure [ love interest ]

Their relationship didn't have a good start, to say Shin didn't want to interact at all and lashed out as a defensive mechanism to the light bearer was, to say the least. Used to being by himself, he had a rough time trusting Jenah as team leader. After finally working through that distrust of him, and apologizing for his behavior, they had the chance to get each other more and more...to the point feelings naturally developed despite the harsh tower environment they had to survive through.

Wang Kang-Dae [ enemies to teammate ]

Forced to coexist in order to survive, Kang tested Shin's patience at every second and opportunity he could. Previously an enemy to a forced teammate, Shin had to learn how to interact and tolerate the other presence, on top of making sure he didn't get him and the rest of the team killed. However with time, and part thanks to Kang'sfriendly and social nature, their relationship became one of genuine friendship and mutual trust and respect.
