SKILLS & ABILITIES

• Possesses a working core of magic that lets him use his wind based powers. Being the only one in his family to be able to do so, he has had to practice on his own through trial and effort. He’s not particularly skilled because of this, but can use his magic to help him in his work by moving objects closer and keeping them floating on air. He keeps his skills strictly a secret from others, well aware magic doesn’t have a place to exist in the current time and place.
  
  
• Extremely skilled at measuring people with eyes alone, something many find almost uncanny. Regardless of this skill, however, Leander still uses his measuring tape to make his customers feel more at ease with him - and it’s always good to get them properly measured just in case!
  
  
• Although his main line of work involves making clothes for his patrons, he can also fix and reuse clothing items.
  
  
• He’s also dabbling into embroidery, knitting and cross stitching to broaden his horizons and hone his skills. He often asks the local elderly for guidance and tips in the things he’s less familiar with (such as knitting), something that has made him quite liked by older ladies in particular.
  
  
• He’s not weak to humans or their presence like unicorns are, but he still thrives in company and finds himself calmer when around other people. It’s one of the main reasons why he loves working with his customers so much and prefers interaction over just working alone. 
  

TRIVIA

• Leander doesn’t consider using magic in his trade as “cheating”. His magical skills are a part of him and a skill he has had to learn and cultivate throughout the years, much like his craftsmanship itself.
  
  
• Because of his line of work, Leander often ends up hearing a lot of gossip and sensitive information his customers let out without thinking. Though sworn to secrecy, it doesn’t change the fact that he knows quite a lot about the people around him, especially those of higher standing - and not all that information about them is exactly flattering.
  
  
• He doesn’t necessarily have much in common with his friends Ambrose and Aurel, but he enjoys their presence nevertheless. They speak a lot so he doesn’t have to, and so Leander can focus on working on the side.
  
  
• None of his even close friends are aware of his magical abilities, though Leander has contemplated confiding on Wilhelm at some point. The only person he knows for sure he’d be willing to discuss it with would be his possible future partner.
  
  
• While he does think he has worked hard for his name, Leander acknowledges a lot of his wealth and fame is thanks to being in the right place at the right time and coming in contact with an influential customer who gave him visibility. It doesn’t mean this would make him some sort of fraud though, but he doesn’t want to pretend like it was all thanks to hard work and nothing more: he knows being able to start a business in the first place is a privilege, and thinks it’d be arrogant to pretend like hard work was all it took to make it out there.
  
  
• Firmly believes that the social part of customer service he does is just as important as the work itself, and as such works hard to be friendly and easy to communicate with. He always prefers to be overly polite over too casual.
  
  
• Tends to hum or whistle while he works, granted that he’s alone  - he doesn’t want to bother others.
  
  
• Doesn’t have a unicorn form he can assume, making his magical skills the only visible sign of him having nonhuman blood in him. 

PERSONALITY

Summary: Patient perhaps to a fault at times, Leander is well known for his relaxed yet polite exterior. Though popular with his trade, he’s very humble, friendly and generally easy to get along with. However, his passion for what he does runs so deep it often interests him more than forming close bonds, and so it can be hard to get to know him despite his sociability and charisma.

It’s easy to get along with Leander - after all, many can’t recall a time when he would have lost his patience or gotten openly angry with someone. Instead, in a true customer service manner, Leander has learned to control his emotions in public and thinks very carefully before he speaks and acts if just possible. Rather than doing it for his image, however, Leander is mainly just very nervous about conflict and always wants to give his customers the best service possible. Through trial and error in his youth he has learned to deal with disagreements and unpleasant situations, but he wishes to keep them away from his personal life and even more so from his workplace. He rather has his own feelings hurt than starts a fight with someone, which can make a proper, honest communication with him hard if you wish to go past mere formalities.

Extremely dedicated to his work, Leander has no problem whatsoever working on his own and can easily spend hours just practicing a new cut or going through and arranging his various fabrics. Because his work is his biggest passion, Leander’s social contacts often don’t lead to strong bonds as he dedicates more time for his interest than spending quality time with people. He does have some close friends but those are rather few in numbers, yet Leander seems perfectly content with the way things are for him. Even a romantic relationship is more of an afterthought to him than anything else, despite it being common knowledge within the city that Leander is one of the most sought bachelors around. He’s not opposed to the idea by any means and can be quite the romantic when in the mood, but doesn’t see it as something he feels is detrimental to his life or survival.

Despite his introverted tendencies, Leander is actually very social and thrives in being around other people - even if he himself isn’t actively socializing with them. While the unicorn blood in his family runs thin, Leander has inherited the unicorns’ natural affinity for humans and their companionship, though with a much milder effect compared to unicorns. He has honed his social skills with his customer oriented work and considers the social aspect of it just as important as the actual physical product itself, and has managed to cultivate himself a rather charismatic and pleasant persona both in and out of work. He likes to keep the two separated though, and while he doesn’t exactly have many secrets that could threaten his life or livelihood, Leander finds it easier to draw a strict line between his private and public life. Some think this makes him two faced or dishonest, but Leander doesn’t seem to mind these assumptions much - or at least he never brings them up.

Capable of using some wind based magic, Leander has become good at keeping secrets from others. While his family knows of their unicorn ancestry, Leander is very aware magic isn’t supposed to exist among humans - at least in his time and place. As many think magic belongs to the ancient world, Leander doesn’t want to risk getting caught and facing whatever people’s attitudes towards magic now would be.

HISTORY

Magic had been with Leander for as long as he could remember: it was part of his earliest as well as some of his most cherished memories, and so its existence within his body always felt natural to him - despite the fact the society would see nothing natural in it. Coming from a family that had unicorn’s blood flowing through their veins, Leander was always aware of the more magical aspects of the world around him, hidden from the eyes of ordinary humans.

While he was the only member of his family with magical abilities in many generations, the knowledge of unicorns and their many magical abilities were passed down from one generation to another. Learning wasn’t always easy and he would sometimes break objects and knock himself over numerous times, but Leander was always very patient and likewise highly curious about his skills and wished to learn more. Even when he would then become interested in the art of tailoring and cloth making, Leaner pursued after magic and actually implemented it as part of his textile works. He also kept his skills strictly a secret from everyone outside his household, including his closest friends.

He was a bright and intelligent child, but outside of magic his childhood was rather unremarkable. He never showed any interest in continuing in the footsteps of his merchant and trader parents, and passed his heir rights to his younger sister instead, who was much more suitable for the trade. In turn he spent his adolescence honing his skills in tailoring by working under a local tailor, as well as socializing himself and networking with various peers and future customers alike.

Entering the industry

At twenty - a rather young age for someone in his line of work - he branched out to start his own business, and would settle in the promising, bustling city of X. With the competition around, Leander initially struggled finding customers and for the first two years he was barely able to make ends meet. He still enjoyed his job and didn’t want to stop doing it, but he had to acknowledge he couldn’t go on like this forever - he had to make a breakthrough, and it would come to him in the form of a local dandy. Famous for his sense of style, when Leander completed his outfit it wouldn’t take long for people finding out about him and wanting clothes just like the man had - a piece of that style and fame he had. From then on Leander’s income would gradually increase as more and more people discovered him, and before he realized he had become a known name among the higher society.

With his popularity he decided to move to the capital, deciding it was the best course of action for him and also let him expand his store and hire staff to help him. Though raised up in a city, the capital felt even larger and grander than he had anticipated, and it took him a while to settle in and find circles to inhabit. During this time he also met Wilhelm Blackwood, whose wife Annabeth wished to commission a new dress for herself. Quick to forge a bond due to their similar personalities, the two would become friends and spend time together - and through this he also got to know Wilhelm’s courtesan Ambrose. A little before this he had also befriended Aurel, who had become a very loyal customer to him with often pleasantly callenging (and lucrative) ideas for his clothes.

Currently

Leander remains a popular tailor and is often busy with work, but when able to get out of his boutique he’s often seen spending time with Aurel and Ambrose at the local gentlemen’s club. He occasionally participates in the more secretive meetings for men loving men as well, though has made clear he’s there mainly to hang out and have fun rather than actively search for a partner.
