Junwei's manga appearance

Junwei has messy black hair, which includes bangs that partially cover his eyes. His skin is slightly tanned and he has brown eyes. He is shown to be slightly muscular, though his build is often hidden due to his clothing. As time passes, he becomes more muscular and toned.

JJunwei tends to choose outfits that allow freedom of movement. One of his most frequently worn outfits consists of an unzipped navy hoodie, layered over a black T-shirt. He pairs these with knee-length gray shorts along with chains, and black socks paired with dark blue running shoes featuring grayish-blue designs. A volleyball keychain is locked on his shorts.

For those who are not well-acquainted with Junwei, his young and innocent appearance often leads them to perceive him as a harmless young boy, underestimating his true capabilities.

Personality

Junwei has a blunt and straightforward personality, unfiltered in his communication and often disregarding the emotional states of others, which can lead to him being perceived as rude. He has a preference toward a logical, rational approach to assessing situations, favoring reason over emotions. In essence, he's not overly concerned with the opinions of others and enjoys living in the present. He's highly independent, opting to tackle things on his own. Junwei prefers a carefree, go-with-the-flow attitude and rarely dwells on future prospects, relying instead on his instincts and quick thinking to make spontaneous decisions.

His mind operates at a rapid pace, excelling in analysis and swiftly identifying the most favorable solutions to problems. However, he remains adaptable, open to considering multiple angles based on the situation, and possesses a talent for devising strategies on the fly.

Although his thoughts are continually running, Junwei tends to be a reserved individual who keeps his emotions to himself. He is not adept at expressing his own feelings and struggles a lot to interpret the emotions of others. He tends to maintain a quiet demeanor, especially in the presence of unfamiliar people, easily displaying disapproval when others attempt to assert authority over him.

Junwei has an innate aptitude for learning and is often able to adapt to new environments. Nevertheless, he finds it challenging to integrate into new social circles and connect with people. He excels in physical activities, possessing exceptional reflexes and athletic capabilities.

Background

Junwei was born into the royal family of the Shu Empire as their firstborn child. From an early age, the weight of his future responsibilities was apparent, and his education began at a mere four to five years old. Introduced to the complex world of Nen, he displayed an aptitude for the techniques, quickly grasping Ten, Zetsu, Ren, Hatsu, Gyo, Shu, and Ko within a single year. He continued to expand his knowledge and control over Nen, delving into the intricacies of In, Ken, En, and Ryu over the following years. By the age of 12, he had not only mastered the fundamental Nen techniques but was already exploring more advanced applications.

In addition to Nen, Junwei's upbringing extended beyond the realm of Nen. He received martial arts instruction, engaging in physical combat training to cultivate his combat skills. He dedicated time to academic pursuits, ensuring he had a broad and thorough education. Furthermore, he underwent rigorous training in swordsmanship, mastering the art of wielding a blade.

His parents were a driving force behind his training, well aware that he would be the next in line to rule the empire. They imposed high expectations on Junwei, demanding excellence in his studies and skill development. However, as the years passed, the pressure lessened, and Junwei's mother began to ease off his obligations.

Despite his royal upbringing, Junwei found himself irresistibly drawn to the world outside the palace walls. Whenever the opportunity arose, he would slip away from his imperial duties, seeking refuge in the nearby forest. The outside world provided a place where he could escape the weight of his responsibilities. Among the trees, he would often climb to the branches, observing the wildlife and passersby below.

It was during one of these escape trips into the forest that Junwei wandered into the path of a bandit gang, oblivious to the danger he had encountered. Upon realizing his identity as the emperor's eldest son, the bandits hatched a scheme, intending to hold him for ransom. They reached out to the Shu family, demanding a significant sum in exchange for Junwei's safe return.

However, Junwei's father's response was unwavering—ignoring the demands and choosing not to negotiate with the criminals. Stranded in the hands of his captors, Junwei was determined to escape. Drawing upon his formidable Nen abilities, he devised a plan for his liberation. Through the clever use of his aura and his quick thinking, Junwei executed his escape, leaving the bandits behind.

Plot
Hunter Exam arc
Preliminary Phase

A few months before the Hunter Exam, Junwei received a summons from his father, Emperor Jianlong. Junwei arrived at his father's opulent chambers, not entirely sure why he had been called. The intensity of his father's stare was enough to make Junwei feel uneasy. He announced that he had signed Junwei up to partake in the Hunter Exam and that he was not to return until he obtained his Hunter License.

The sudden revelation caught Junwei off guard. He hadn't anticipated this decision, nor had he ever expressed a desire to partake in the Hunter Exam. His confusion was evident, but he refrained from voicing his thoughts. It took a few seconds before he dared to ask for the reason. His question, however, was only answered with convenience as a motive.

First Phase

Junwei was one of the few rookies who successfully made it to Zaban Tunnel. Upon his arrival, he was assigned the number 9 by Beans.

It didn't take long for him to attract the attention of Tonpa and offered Junwei a soda. However, Junwei was unfamiliar with such beverages. In response, Junwei politely declined the offer.

Soon afterwards, Killua Zoldyck approached Junwei, assuming that they were around the same age. However, Killua's demeanor quickly shifted as he discovered that Junwei was not of his age group, much to his apparent disappointment. The upset gaze Killua gave was evident as he made a brief comment before walking away.

Soon, the voice of Satotz, the examinator, resonated through the tunnel. As Satotz's announcement reverberated through the tunnel, Junwei and the other applicants listened. The order was to follow Satotz and make it out of the tunnel. Junwei joined the participants in following Satotz through the tunnels.

After making it out of the tunnel, Satotz warned the applicants of the dangerous path ahead. In particular, he cautioned them about the potential dangers lurking in the Milsy Wetlands. The swampy terrain was known to be teeming with wildlife.

Throughout this march, Junwei maintained a distance from his fellow examinees. After some point, Junwei sensed the tension surrounding Hisoka Morow and chose to stay clear of any potential conflicts.

Second Phase

Junwei successfully reached the Visca Forest Preserve, the site for the second phase of the Hunter Exam. As the participants settled in, the Gourmet Hunters, Menchi and Buhara, made their entrance. Together, they revealed the nature of the Second Phase to the candidates. It was a trial which made Junwei feel anxious about the end result: cooking.

Buhara requested a whole roast pig from each applicant, but the only one in the preserve is the the world's most dangerous pig. In the end, Junwei, like several others, successfully managed to complete the task. However, his success was short-lived as Menchi was dissatisfied with the quality of his cooking. He had never ventured into the world of cooking before, and his inexperience was evident in the outcome. As a result, he failed the initial trial.

However, the situation took an unexpected turn when Chairman Netero intervened. With this, the test continued and was transported to Split Mountain, where the examinees faced a new trial: a hunt for Spider Eagle eggs. The successful participants of the second phase boarded the blimp afterwards. It was during this time that Junwei had an unexpected encounter with Hisoka.

Hisoka's greeting was anything but conventional. He threw a card at Junwei from behind, forcing Junwei to react swiftly to avoid the card. In response, Junwei exhibited his readiness, pointing one of his steel nails at Hisoka in an unfazed stance, prepared to defend himself if needed.

Hisoka couldn't help but express his intrigue regarding Junwei. He openly declared his interest in him, indicating his desire to engage in a battle or confrontation with him in the future. This proclamation left Junwei feeling somewhat uneasy due to Hisoka nature, but he remained composed, making sure not to reveal any discomfort. With that unnerving encounter, Hisoka left Junwei alone.

Third Phase

During the Third Phase of the Hunter Exam, Junwei's thinking concluded in a hypothesis. He realized that there were secret entrances on top of Trick Tower. However, despite his discovery, he found himself unable to decipher how to activate or unlock this entrance.

It was then he coincidentally stumbled upon Itsuki Hayabusa activating one of the secret entrances. He soon enough realized that an entrance could only be used once. Unexpectedly, he found another entrance closeby and entered the tower. Despite his initial hesitation, he realized that their collaboration was now essential for their mutual survival.

Junwei and Itsuki in Trick Tower
There was no room for Junwei's individualism in Trick Tower. In defeat, Junwei voiced his wish that he had found a separate entrance to the tower, reflecting his preference for solitude and independent action. He openly admitted that he wasn't adept at dealing with others, his straightforward and logical nature not always aligning with the intricacies of human interactions. However, Itsuki managed to keep her cool and to overlook these differences and focus on their shared goal.

The two found themselves tackling each challenge thrown at them despite being cuffed together. Their first challenge was deciphering riddles, ranging from classic brainteasers to complex word puzzles that were displayed on a Rosetta Stone. Both Junwei and Itsuki struggled initially, but they combined their analytical skills and managed to solve them all.

After passing this stage, they were met with a seemingly endless corridor filled with doors. Each door was engraved with a different symbol. The challenge was to memorize the symbols on each door, discover a pattern and recreate the rooms later. Itsuki suggested they concentrate on memorizing one section at a time. After they were confident in their memorization, they entered a different room that was plain and empty. Their challenge was to reproduce the patterns and symbols they had seen in the previous rooms. Junwei and Itsuki were given a limited amount of time to draw, arrange, and replicate the designs from their memory.

The following trial they faced was a mirror maze. The mirrors reflected the surroundings, making it challenging to distinguish between real passages and reflections. Upon entering the maze, Junwei and Itsuki were immediately confronted by reflections. The multiple reflections made it difficult to determine the actual paths, creating a sense of disorientation to both. As they proceeded, Junwei suggested that they carefully observe the mirrors and the surroundings to identify any subtle differences between the reflections and the real passages. They marked the mirrors with tiny scratches to differentiate them from others. After moments of confusion, and several instances of backtracking, they made it out.

It was the final trial within Trick Tower that tested the limits of their partnership. Faced with the task of defeating two formidable prisoners before gaining access to the exit, the tension between Junwei and Itsuki reached its highest point. Itsuki had created a strategy based on her assessment of the two prisoners, ready to share her plan when Junwei impulsively charged into the confrontation.

Their clash revealed their contrasting approaches once again. Itsuki believed in a structured and premeditated strategy, while Junwei favored individual action. Their fight threatened to ruin their hard-earned progress. However, Itsuki's perceptive nature came in clutch; she grasped the essence of Junwei's personality and resolved to bridge their differences. She recognized his quick thinking, adaptability, and decisiveness. With this newfound understanding, she managed to convince Junwei to adopt her strategy for the final trial.

Ultimately, Junwei gave in and decided to follow Itsuki's strategy. They synchronized their efforts, focusing on each other's strengths, and by working together, they managed to subdue the two prisoners. Their collaboration, despite the earlier slipup, allowed them to outmaneuver their opponents and pass the final trial, exiting Trick Tower.

Fourth Phase

The Fourth Phase took place on Zevil Island, wherein the remaining competitors were required to target and acquire their prey's tag. Junwei is the 13th to disembark with his target being #104.

One of Junwei's most significant challenges during this phase was his lack of knowledge about what his target looked like. He devised a strategic approach that involved maintaining a low profile while hidden in the treetops. His strategy primarily involved ambushing anyone he spotted walking beneath him. In his first encounter, Junwei managed to knock out his designated target, unaware it was her. However, she didn't possess her own number plate, making it impossible for him to know. Junwei retained her number plate and concealed himself once again.

Over the following days, Junwei continued to accumulate number plates by ambushing other participants, hoping to find the one he needed. Despite his efforts, he still hadn't come across the specific plate required to complete the task.

Junwei then spotted Itsuki, who happened to possess the number plate he sought. Acting swiftly, he devised a plan to negotiate. Catching up to Itsuki, he revealed to her the number he had been assigned to obtain and tried to fish out if Itsuki had obtained any plates. Intrigued by Junwei's proposal, Itsuki cooperated and presented her plates for verification. To his delight, one of the plates was Junwei's target. The trade allowed Junwei to secure the necessary tag for this phase.

He spent the remaining days skillfully using the number plates he had collected to engage in other trades with various participants.

Final Phase

Netero summons all the remaining examinees, asking them what fellow applicants have their most attention and who they would be opposed to fighting. Junwei answers Killua, Gittarucker and Hisoka to the former question, and Hisoka and Pokkle to the latter.

Three days later, the last trial begins. It is revealed to be a tournament in which a single win results in clearing the exam. Netero explains that the number of matches at one's disposal reflects their scores, causing surprise in Junwei, his attention immediately focused on Gon.

After Hanzo and Gon's fight, it was Junwei and Itsuki's match. The match begins with both Junwei and Itsuki staring, waiting for an opening to strike. However, as time passes, Junwei's patience wanes, and he launches the initial attack. Itsuki adeptly evades and defends against his assaults, which leaves Junwei feeling frustrated.

Getting annoyed by Itsuki, Junwei takes the initiative and makes a bold move. He manages to trip Itsuki and confiscate her two bastons in the process. Despite this, Itsuki refused to give up. Junwei exerted pressure, prompting Itsuki to ultimately concede the match.

Upon Junwei's return, he immediately grew suspicious. The En guarding the palace was not cast by his father, but by his mother. This unusual occurrence piqued his curiosity, as his mother was known for her unwavering routines. He soon learned that his father had been out of the country, and during his absence, a revolution had erupted.

The royal family managed to maintain their stronghold over the palace, keeping the protesting citizens at bay for several weeks. However, this came to an end when a few members of the Phantom Troupe made their appearance. Junwei's senses went haywire as he detected their powerful aura within his En circle. His reflexes kicked in, and he immediately appeared at the front gate to confront the intruders.

There, he encountered Feitan Portor, Franklin Bordeau, and Nobunaga Hazama, each of their auras cast an intimidating shadow. Junwei struggled to focus his attention on any one of them, his gaze constantly shifting among the threatening trio. Feitan, keenly perceptive, capitalized on Junwei's momentary distraction and lunged at him, catching the young prince off guard.

Junwei vs Nobunaga
Junwei's siblings and cousins swiftly rallied to his side, forming groups to engage the Troupe members. Junwei and Bolong took on Nobunaga. In the heat of battle, Nobunaga dealt a fierce blow to Bolong, leaving him unconscious but alive thanks to his protective Nen defenses. Junwei used his Nen abilities to launch projectiles at Nobunaga, creating a temporary diversion. As his arsenal of projectiles depleted, Junwei drew his sword and faced Nobunaga. Despite being able to keep up his defenses, the immense gap in swordsmanship skills between the two became apparent. Junwei struggled to land a single effective attack with his sword.

In a moment of frustration, Junwei shot his sword as a projectile with precision, capturing a moment when Nobunaga's guard was down. This allowed Junwei to seize the opportunity and retrieve Bolong. The two made a hasty retreat.

As the chaotic events unfolded, Junwei soon encountered his father, Jianlong, in the midst of their escape. He observed Jianlong alongside his sister, Xuemei Shu, crafting decoys of the royal family to deceive the pursuing Phantom Troupe members. Jianlong, after issuing a strategic retreat, called upon Junwei to convey this message to the rest of their family.

Initially, Junwei resisted the idea of fleeing, but his father's stern gaze swayed him. Junwei successfully conveyed Jianlong's message to the rest of the family, ensuring their retreat from their home. As they distanced themselves from the palace, Junwei's pent-up emotions boiled over, and he unleashed his frustration against his father. Their heated exchange escalated. In a fit of anger, drew his sword against Jianlong. However, the difference in power between father and son became evident as their confrontation unfolded. Junwei found himself outmatched by Jianlong's physical strength.

Their escape led them to a new residence. Jianlong resumed Itsuki's Nen training, and Junwei was often in the background, honing his Ren abilities. Junwei was also tasked with demonstrating the Water Divination technique to Itsuki.

In a surprising turn of events, Jianlong revealed that Itsuki had passed the secret exam by significantly altering the water's taste. The concept of the secret exam left both Junwei and Itsuki perplexed. After Itsuki's departure, the family began to adapt to their new surroundings.

Around the same time, Leorio Paradinight received permission to access the Shu family's library for his studies. Junwei, while maintaining a lower profile, gradually formed a strong bond with Leorio, their relationship evolving into a brotherly bond.

Yorknew City arc

Junwei, Bolong and Leorio went off towards Yorknew City, prompted by the news of an upcoming auction featuring Greed Island.

Upon arriving in the city, they decided to explore its streets, with Leorio parting ways from the group. As a few days passed, Bolong learned about an underground auction in which the Scarlet Eyes were rumored to be available for purchase. He inquired whether Junwei would be willing to participate, given his mother’s interest in collecting rare body parts. To Bolong's surprise, Junwei expressed his strong disapproval of his mother's fascination and refused to participate in the auction.

However, the situation took a turn when they caught wind of a 9?cb=20180517013243200 million bounty placed on each of the seven individuals from the provided list. Both Junwei and Bolong swiftly recognized these targets as members of the notorious Phantom Troupe. Bolong, driven by the desire to capture the Troupe members, urged Junwei to join the pursuit. Although Junwei initially hesitated, Bolong's persistence eventually convinced him to tail the Troupe members. Their agreement resulted in Bolong staying behind, considering his previous encounter with Nobunaga.

Bolong mentions an underworld auction after some days had passed and asks Junwei if it's really ok not to get the Scarlet Eyes for Hualin, his mother. Junwei replies that he's disgusted by his mother's interest in collecting body parts and refuses to check it out.

Junwei shadowed Nobunaga and Machi with a careful eye, maintaining his cover as he hid in an abandoned building closeby to their location. He observed their actions, deducing that they were awaiting someone's arrival. To ensure he had not missed any potential threats, Junwei used his En. However, this move ultimately backfired, as it inadvertently exposed his position. The expansion of his aura did not go unnoticed, and it was Phinks Magcub who discerned the source of his aura and detected Junwei's presence.

Subsequently, Junwei found himself in the Troupe's hideout, where he noticed the presence of Hisoka. Amidst the tense atmosphere in the Phantom Troupe's hideout, Feitan broke through the silence, who recognized Junwei, addressing him as the former prince of the Shu Empire. While he inquired about his survival, Junwei pretended to be ignorant of the circumstances surrounding his past. Feitan's question led to an exchange of blows between Junwei and Nobunaga. However, this confrontation was immediately stopped, as a member of the Troupe intervened, preventing further escalation.

As the hours passed in captivity, Junwei's patience was tested, especially due to Nobunaga's consistent provocation regarding his swordsmanship. Amid this ordeal, he observed Gon and Killua discussing doctoring tricks, a seemingly unrelated topic. Junwei's confusion was dispelled when the two young boys utilized their newfound knowledge to create an escape route by kicking a hole in the wall. He followed Gon and Killua through the opening.

To his pleasant surprise, they soon encountered Bolong along the way, who was accompanied by Itsuki. They admitted their inability to secure accommodations. Gon offered them a place in their hotel room. As Gon, Killua, Kurapika and Leorio were catching up, Junwei overheard Kurapika saying that the Phantom Troupe were still alive. Later, Killua headed out to locate the Troupe’s hideout. During that time, Junwei couldn't help but be uneasy about Kurapika's powerful and vengeful aura.

After Gon and Killua were captured by the Troupe again, Junwei, Bolong, Itsuki, Kurapika, Leorio and Melody devised a plan to rescue them.

Greed Island arc

After failing to get his hands on a copy of Greed Island, Junwei and Bolong decided to go to the screening of Tsezguerra. Both passed the screening flawlessly.

As the two prepared to dive further into the game, they had to determine the order in which they would enter Greed Island. In a lighthearted fashion, they settled the order through a game of rock-paper-scissors, with Junwei finding himself in the last position.

During their journey within Greed Island, they encountered a persistent player named Kazsule who repeatedly contacted them in an attempt to persuade them into trading cards. In particular, Kazsule expressed a strong desire to acquire their "Night Jade" card, offering multiple cards in exchange. However, Junwei remained steadfast in his refusal.

As they progressed, they caught on to Greed Island's rumors and gossip about the Bomber. Junwei and Bolong actively engaged with other players, spreading inquiries about the faction and listening to various stories. They took note of key details and potential leads to finding out who they are. With information gathered from their investigations, Junwei and Bolong narrowed down the potential locations of the Bomber's hideout. They decided to collaborate with other players who shared their interest in confronting the faction.

Their investigation took a standstill when they crossed paths with Gon, Killua, Biscuit, and Goreinu. This group invited Junwei and Bolong to join them in their mission to confront Razor, a formidable Game Master within Greed Island. Despite initial reservations, Junwei and Bolong accepted the invitation, and their alliance was formed.

As the group continued to gather allies, Gon expressed a desire to uncover the true identity of "Chrollo," a mysterious player they had encountered. Junwei, however, harbored a sense of unease about this quest, feeling that there might be hidden dangers or secrets that were best left undiscovered. Despite his reservations, they continued their journey, learning that "Chrollo" was, in fact, Hisoka. The group was then led to the city of Aiai by Hisoka, further fueling Junwei's growing suspicions about his motives. He noticed inconsistencies in Hisoka's actions and statements and kept a watchful eye on him.

Their alliance grew, and they recruited additional members, including Tsezguerra and Itsuki. They strategically assigned sports or tasks to the alliance members. Junwei chose to participate in the volleyball game.

As the alliance faced Razor's formidable dodgeball team, Razor's formidable strength caused Junwei to be eliminated early as Junwei found himself unable to fully utilize his Nen ability to deflect the ball effectively.

After winning the dodgeball game, Junwei and Bolong offered their assistance to Tsezguerra's team and later to Gon, Killua, and Biscuit in the confrontation against the Bomber. After the events with the Bomber concluded, they all decided to give their cards to Gon.

Chimera Ant arc

After the events of Greed Island, Junwei felt a desire to see his homeland. He decided to take a detour on his way home to revisit his country. However, what he encountered upon his return left an impact on him. He witnessed that his nation was still plagued by poverty and that little had changed since his exile. This realization ignited a determination within him to reclaim his country and transform it into a better place.

Driven by this purpose, Junwei embarked on a journey to explore how other countries were faring. His curiosity led him to investigate NGL, a mysterious and isolated region shrouded in secrecy. However, upon his arrival, he sensed that something was amiss. As he delved deeper into his investigation, he stumbled upon information about the existence of the Chimera Ants.

While venturing through the dense forests in search of the Chimera Ants' nest, Junwei came across Gon, Killua, and Kite. When they were within sight of the nest, the air filled with tension as they sensed an ominous aura in the vicinity. Kite's warning snapped Junwei out of his initial shock, and he was the first to react. In a rush of panic, he made the split-second decision to flee the scene, however he realized too late Gon and Killua did not follow him. Luckily, Killua managed to protect Gon and followed Junwei as they escaped the danger zone. They reached the border, where they encountered Jianlong, Netero, Morel and Knov.

The three of them reunited with Biscuit, who was accompanied by Xuemei, Junwei's younger sister. As Gon and Killua faced the challenges posed by Knuckle, Junwei stayed behind and trained his En with Biscuit. The conditions set by his father for his return to NGL included strengthening his determination to hone his mind and Nen. During this period, Junwei pushed himself to the limit. One night, his determination led to overexertion, causing him to pass out. When he regained consciousness, he was greeted by Gon and Killua, who explained what happened.

Junwei also noticed that his sister had been watching over him while he rested. This act of care from his sister left a deep impact on him. He made a silent promise to himself that when he eventually reclaimed his nation, he would encourage Xuemei to become the Queen and give up his position as the heir.

After Colt conveyed vital information to the Extermination Team about the Sorting and the Royal Guards' capability to forcibly awaken Nen, the team took decisive action. Ten days before the anticipated rally announced by Masadoru Diego, Jianlong, Knov, Morel, Knuckle, Shoot, Junwei, Itsuki, Gon, and Killua boarded a train towards East Gorteau. The goal was to separate the Royal Guards from the King and thwart the incoming disaster.

Upon arrival in East Gorteau, Morel conducted a test on Gon, and Jianlong was deeply impressed by the young boy's aura. As instructed by Chairman Netero, the team was divided into three groups, each tasked with confronting a specific Royal Guard: Morel, Jianlong, and Knov against Shaiapouf; Knuckle, Junwei, Itsuki, Shoot against Menthuthuyoupi; and Gon and Killua against Neferpitou.

One night, Knuckle sensed the approach of Cheetu. Fearing that Cheetu might acquire a formidable Nen ability by contacting the King, Knuckle, along with Shoot, Itsuki and Junwei, decided to intercept him. Their readiness to confront Cheetu was evident, but their plans took an unexpected turn when Cheetu altered his course, leaving them bewildered. It became apparent that Flutter, another Chimera Ant, had tipped off Cheetu, complicating their mission.

Meanwhile, Gon contacted Knuckle to discuss their actions aimed at stopping the Selection process. Knuckle relayed their progress, which had prompted Morel and Knov to take action, though the toll on their strength was a growing concern. The team decided to meet up in Mandai, a midpoint between their current locations. It was during this meeting that Meleoron introduced himself. Their discussions were further guided by Killua, as they contemplated the next steps in their mission. Morel tells them Knov is unfit to continue, but that he has managed to plant all the exits.

By slipping into the rallying crowd gathered in Peijin, the Extermination Team members gather in Knov's pocket dimension. Ten minutes before the appointed time, the Extermination Team members begin to move towards the Royal Palace.

They would enter the palace through the entrance closest to the throne room, positioned by the central staircase. Junwei, Itsuki, Knuckle, Shoot, and Meleoron were assigned the task of confronting Menthuthuyoupi. As they readied themselves for the impending showdown, speculations and doubts clouded their minds. Notably, Morel raised the possibility of unknown variables at play, suggesting the presence of women, possibly kept as concubines for the King. Their worries for Palm grew. These questions weighed on their minds as they awaited the signal from Morel to launch their assault.

As soon as they turn the corner, the Extermination Team meet the unexpected: aura shards rain from above due to Zeno Zoldyck's Dragon Dive, Neferpitou's En cannot be felt, and Menthuthuyoupi is standing on the central staircase. The Hunters wonder if Meleoron, Junwei and Knuckle have been killed by the shards while undetectable thanks to God's Accomplice. The tension broke when Knuckle landed a punch to Menthuthuyoupi, thus activating his Hakoware ability. A.P.R. began its countdown. It felt like an eternity for Knuckle as he struggled to hold back from attacking the Royal Guard. Junwei attempted to intervene, but his efforts fell short. It was ultimately Meleoron who signaled Knuckle that he was running out of breath.

Right then, Knuckle is accidentally hit by one of Menthuthuyoupi's attacks. The attack effectively reversed most of the damage caused by Knuckle's initial punch. Frustrated with himself, Knuckle hid behind a nearby column, allowing Meleoron a moment to catch his breath. When Shoot was unable to continue fighting, Knuckle revealed his presence to Menthuthuyoupi. This decision was followed by a risky maneuver as Knuckle attempted to lure the Royal Guard away from their location, altering the course of their confrontation.

In the midst of the chaos, Junwei carried Meleoron on his back as they ventured to provide assistance to those in need. The trail of Morel's Smoky Jail led Junwei to deduce that Morel was currently engaged in a fierce battle with Shaiapouf. Their path intersected with Welfin, causing a brief moment of alarm for all involved. Acting swiftly, Junwei took Meleoron to hide, allowing him a moment to regain his breath. Their encounter with Gon's scream led them to Killua, on whom Meleoron used God's Accomplice.

The three left the room where Gon, Neferpitou, and Komugi were, and the two promptly informed Killua of their situation. Having calmed down, Meleoron is confident he can hold his breath for one minute if he does not have to move. Their thoughts turned to Knuckle, who was facing danger, prompting Junwei to devise a plan. Junwei's plan included launching Meleoron and Killua over Menthuthuyoupi, and their strategy worked when Killua paralyzed the Royal Guard with Thunderbolt, saving Knuckle. As Killua ran out of steam Meleoron rendered him invisible once more and they regrouped. Killua told them to assist Morel, but if the situation proved too dangerous to support Knuckle.

Meleoron concealed Morel from Menthuthuyoupi's view. However, Junwei was unable to get them away quickly enough, allowing Morel to sustain an injury from Menthuthuyoupi. The trail of blood led him to Junwei, Meleoron and Morel’s location. The decision weighed heavily on Junwei as he contemplated whether to launch Morel and Meleoron to a safer distance. He feared the sudden motion could worsen Morel's condition.

In a critical moment, Knuckle revealed his presence to the Royal Guard and Menthuthuyoupi promised to leave them alone if he deactivated Hakoware. Despite Morel's pleas against accepting the terms, the communication barrier created by God's Accomplice prevented him from hearing Morel's objections. Meleoron undid his invisibility, revealing the injured Hunter and Junwei. Meleoron returned visible and dropped to his knees in despair. Much to his shock, Menthuthuyoupi spared all of them and left to go to the King's side.

Morel told them to pursue Menthuthuyoupi and continue the battle. Upon the arrival of Knov, the team received information about Netero's successful attempt to relocate the King to the designated location. Under Knov's guidance, Morel was taken away for medical attention, leaving Knuckle, Junwei, and Meleoron to contemplate their next course of action. In the face of uncertainty and danger, they chose to stay behind to continue the battle against the Chimera Ants. Meleoron raised the possibility of searching for Palm, but Knuckle's response was clear: their immediate priority was to confront another Royal Guard. Together, they made their way to Gon's location, with Knuckle preparing to challenge Shaiapouf.

However, the Shaiapouf they had located was merely a clone, scattering into countless copies. Meleoron, Junwei, and Knuckle regrouped with Ikalgo, Killua, Itsuki, Jianlong, and Palm. They collectively agreed to remain within the palace, committed to seeing the mission through to the end.

The Extermination Team discovered the King remained alive. In the face of this unforeseen development, Knuckle, Junwei, and Meleoron were forced to adapt their strategy. When the King returned to the scene and released his overwhelming Ren. Realizing how dire the situation became, Knuckle made a swift decision, instructing Meleoron and Junwei to withdraw and retreat to Peijin. Meleoron expressed concerns for the well-being of their allies, but Knuckle reassured them that the others, too, would have sensed the King's formidable aura and understood that intervention was impossible. The team was suddenly engulfed by the King's En, and Meruem appeared before them. Before Junwei could activate his Nen, he was knocked unconscious after Knuckle.

Equipment

Jian: Junwei is shown to own a jian which he regularly used to practice with. He doesn't use it much, but it is shown he is quite skilled with it. The sword is heavier than a regular one due to it being made of a special type of metal.

Steel nails: Junwei carries around steel nails which he uses as ammunition. The steel nails are more durable than regular ones due to them being made of a special type of metal.

Abilities & Powers

Junwei has all the benefits granted by his status as a Hunter. He has vast wealth at his disposal, although he needs his father's permission to use them. Junwei has been training Nen since a young age and thus is quite skilled in Nen. While Junwei is proficient in a range of combat techniques, his primary fighting style involves hand-to-hand combat. However, he also showcases impressive swordsmanship skills, having received training in swordplay during his early years.

His training endowed him exceptional agility, remarkable physical strength, and advanced combat skills, both armed and unarmed. Additionally, Junwei has mastered stealth techniques. Rather than relying solely on his physical prowess, Junwei's intellect also plays a role in his battles. He often uses his strategic thinking and heightened senses to outmaneuver and defeat more powerful opponents.

Despite his impressive abilities, Junwei possesses a few notable weaknesses. His strong inclination toward self-reliance can hinder effective teamwork, making collaborative efforts challenging. Furthermore, he sometimes is hit with overconfidence in his own abilities, which may lead him to underestimate opponents.

His unassuming appearance, often misleading people due to his innocent and fragile looks, is a quality he labels as one of his strengths, allowing him to catch opponents off guard and turn their underestimation to his advantage.

Swordsmanship: While Junwei doesn't heavily depend on his Jian, he's skilled with it and can use it effectively. He learned sword fighting from a young age, making him good with a sword. He can switch between using his sword and fighting with his hands depending on what's needed. He's very precise and quick with his sword.

Preternatural Perception: Junwei has proven multiple times to be extremely perceptive even without the use of Nen. This skill has been honed through years of training. One notable instance of his perceptiveness is his ability to distinguish the En, a type of aura, of his family members. Each of them emits a unique and distinct aura, which Junwei can discern. Junwei also has a highly developed sense of taste and is often able to tell very well what spices were used in a dish.

Immense Speed, Agility and Reflexes: Junwei possesses remarkable agility and quick reflexes, making him a formidable combatant, especially when facing opponents who may be physically stronger than him. His ability to swiftly maneuver and react to various situations has saved him from dangerous situations on multiple occasions. Junwei's speed and agility provide him with a distinct advantage in battles, enabling him to outmaneuver opponents and strike with precision.

Enhanced Stamina: Junwei possesses exceptional stamina, as demonstrated during a long-distance run spanning over 80 kilometers, which included ascending stairs and navigating a swamp.

Enhanced Endurance: Junwei possesses an extraordinary tolerance for pain. He has endured the brunt of multiple powerful blows from formidable opponents and consistently displayed the ability to get back up again despite the challenges.

Master Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Due to Junwei's early introduction into martial arts training, he has developed an exceptional mastery in hand-to-hand combat. It allows him to hold his own against opponents of varying strengths and combat styles without relying on any weaponry.

Master of Stealth: Junwei is shown to be a master in hiding, spying, and infiltration, even without his Nen.

  • Silent Gaits (暗歩 Anpo—lit. "Dark Steps"): Junwei is capable of moving around without making a sound, which he learned at a young age because he snuck out of the palace often.
  • Expert in Tailing: Junwei's stealth allows him to tail people quite easily.

Master Strategist and Tactician: Junwei possesses a keen strategic mind, and he has demonstrated his ability to devise effective plans and tactics. However, he tends to excel when he has a clear and specific objective in mind. His strength lies in his tactical abilities, where he excels at making well-informed decisions in the heat of the moment. Junwei's capacity to think on his feet and respond immediately to unfolding situations enhances his effectiveness in combat.

Nen

Junwei is an Enhancer. Junwei honed his Nen at a very young age and therefore knows all the basic and advanced techniques. His Hatsu focuses on shooting projectiles.

Junwei acknowledged that maintaining his En for extended periods over a large area was challenging for him. His En radius was approximately 30 meters during the Chimera Ant Arc, and he actively utilized it. Thanks to Biscuit's training, he managed to expand it to about 35 meters. By the conclusion of the 13th Hunter Chairman Election arc, Junwei had made significant progress, pushing his En radius to approximately 40 meters.

Impact combines Enhancement and Emission principles, allowing Junwei to enhance the durability of projectiles.

He uses Enhancement to reinforce the durability of his chosen projectile. Then he uses Emission to separate the enhanced aura from and attach it to the projectile.

To maximize the effectiveness of his ability, Junwei uses Enhancement again, this time focusing on boosting his physical prowess to empower the projectile's propulsion. He can propel the enhanced projectile with precision, either through a powerful punch or kick, or by directly launching it from his hand.

The highest velocity he has reached so far is 294 km/h. However, this was only reached by focusing all his aura on a lightweight projectile.
