Egalan

General Info
Egalan was leader of the coastal tribe before he was voted the next Hawkfather by the collective tribe leaders of the Atlantic Clan in his mid-thirties. As Hawkfather, he represents his clan in the gathering of the Clan leaders, of whom he is eldest and his word carries much weight. With this responsibility, he travels around the east coast of North America that he may hear the voices of all the tribes under his rule. Egalan is a haivalo, one of the few Valon who tend to permanently lean towards one sex, so his shift into female phase is incomplete and often unstable.

His name means "The Eagle".

Appearance
As a haivalo, Egalan looks more masculine than valos tend to be, with broad shoulders, a strong jawline and large chin, and narrower hips. He is short for a valon, most of his family and friends tower over him and he is quite grouchy about it. His broader form and strength make up for it. Egalan has tanned skin and long brown hair worn loose or in a ponytail. He is considered ugly by other valos and his hazel eyes are his only physically attractive feature. He has a scar over his left eye.

Abilities
Egalan is an accomplished hunter and tracker, he is also skilled in melee combat. He prefers to use a spear and shield, though he is proficient in the use of a bow as well. He can read and write at a 3rd grade level. When amusing himself, he can play a diddly-bow or jorvik panpipes.

Bio
Egalan was born in the Coastal Tribe to Vanan and Adoran, their first son. He was born prematurely in the middle of winter and the healer was worried he would not live to see spring. Desite this weak beginning he survived and grew into a boisterous child always causing trouble in the camp. This excess energy became useful after his brother Corvan was born and Egalan dedicated himself to helping his parents care for the baby and then proceeded to drag Corvan with him nearly everywhere when he was older.

Once, when he was hunting rabbits in the woods, the ground gave under him and he fell into a deep pit. The sides were too steep and slick and muddy and he could not climb out. He began to terrify himself with thoughts that this was a Karkan trap and any moment the monsters would appear and drag him away and became too terrified to cry out for help. He huddled in that hole in a state of terror for nearly two days before Vanan found him and pulled him out. Egalan has been claustrophobic ever since.

Puberty affected Egalan differently from the other Valos youths. He developed a broader, more masculine body than the androgynous norm and his etsera proved too short and incomplete. His parents attempted to assure his worries with explanations that all valos were different but he couldn't get over his awkward feelings. These were made all the worse when he and his friends began to explore their sexuality and the fact Egalan was downright ugly and strange made them unwilling to partner with him. The exception was Siric, an older valon studying to be a healer who found Egalan funny and charming and enjoyed spending time with him.

Egalan began to take an interest in politics and became the protege of the camp leader, assisting in tasks and sitting in on the meetings with the Tribe Leader. When the camp leader stepped down, Egalan took his place and soon after was voted the next Tribe Leader. He traveled and formed good relations with the other Tribe Leaders as well as the Atlantic Clan Hawkfather, as well as forged new ones with other clans and began new trade meetings. In his mid-thirties, he was voted Hawkfather by the Tribe Leaders of the Clan. New and young to the Hawkfather gatherings, he spent much of his first years listening, though fought for the necessity of his clan when needed, mostly through charm and manipulation rather than through hostility. Though ugly, he was a charismatic man and well liked.

During his travels, he came across a Valon of the Manhattan tribe recently released from long-time torment by the Karkan, Aluran. Egalan nursed him back to health, but Aluran was pregnant with a karkan child and in his shame did not wish to return to Manhattan yet. Egalan kept Aluran with him through the pragnancy and the two developed a friendship. When the baby was born, Aluran did not wish to keep it. Egalan fell in love with the newborn and claimed him as his own son, naming him Kaisara.

The two Valos eventually made it to Manhattan where they parted ways. Egalan returned to his tribe to raise his son. Once Kaisara was old enough, Egalan continued his Hawkfather duties in his journies to Manhattan for the Hawkfather gatherings. While there he again met with Aluran and his everyn Tebric. The three would spend much intimate time together whenever Egalan happened to be around.

After a few years, Egalan met with Aluran and Tebric again where they introduced him to their son, Noshi. While born of Tebric, Noshi was clearly Egalan's child, and Aluran and Tebric allowed him to have a relationship with their son as a third parent. Egalan dotes on the boy ridiculously, and Kaisara, deciding Noshi was his brother even if he had no familial connection to his parents, would find excuses to go visit Manhattan with his father.
