Markus

Markus is a Demon Tamer. Demon Hunters are known to hire a Tamer to 'tame' an otherwise vicious, bloody thirsty demon into submission (to be used as a pet, or a slave). Tamers often use brutal tactics, not unlike those used by Torture Demons of Hell. Demon Tamers are a nasty lot and are despised by many groups of people, especially by the Slayers, who do not hide their disgust that humans can act so much like demons. Tamers do not have their own kingdom, rather hop from village to village doing the dirty work that those are too cowardly to do themselves. The Hunters do not advertise the fact that they deal with Tamers, but everyone knows they do it. Markus is one such Tamer, who is a recurring hire for the Hunter Kingdom. He is as cold hearted as any demon, and some have question whether he could be one himself. No one has seen his face, which he prefers to keep that way. Markus is incredibly vain as his vile methods of taming have worked better than most, and he has no qualms letting anyone who questions him, know it.

Magic and Multiple Personalities

Markus uses magic to aid him when taming demons. The magic comes at a cost, however, and the more he uses, the more his body becomes sickly and littered with symbols in the form of tattoos. These tattoos mark souls that have touched Markus through the use of magic. (like Street Pass on the 3ds :P) Those souls may or may not still remain inside him at any given time, but it warps his views and thoughts without his knowledge, causing him to have multiple personalities.

Magic is not to be taken lightly, as it connects the user to other realms, opening him up to possession, not just of demons, but any soul that happens to find him in search of a body. To anyone who uses magic, they are essentially a beacon screaming for anyone around to come visit. He is personally strong enough to avoid being controlled by the souls that have entered his body in the past, as he doesn't even know it is happening to him when a soul does enter his body, though it's only a matter of time before something stronger strolls along... The soul merely 'lives' inside him, seeing through his eyes and experiencing what he is experiencing, without a thought or word.

However, Markus has no friends, and very few acquaintances, leaving those he deals with, without the slightest idea of his drastic personality changes or the danger he avidly puts himself and others in. His main personality, snarky, vain and rotten, can often be less desirable than the personalities the souls leave behind.

Brother and Sister

When Markus was but a child barely 14 years old, he and is youngest sister of 7, Lolita, were kidnapped by a demon by the name of Ion, who ultimately shaped them into the beings they are today. Ion 'took them in' after she had slaughtered their village and murdered their family.

Being so young and influenced by a beautiful demoness, Markus quickly fell under an enchantment. Completely devoting himself to her, she was his entire world, and little else mattered to him. Ion would merely suggest that the death of another would bring her happiness, and Markus would not think twice about carrying out these deeds.

Lolita tried time and time again to escape, but could not tear herself away from her brother and Ion-  feeling responsible for what had happened to him and the rest of their village. Markus changed rapidly under Ion's influence, and spent the years well into his 20s with his beloved captor, whom he adored over no other- barely ever recognizing his sister's attempts to get through to him. He knew she was there, he would respond to her, but not truly be there with her, for even his active consciousness was away when Ion was not with him.

He was 25 and Lolita 18, when Ion was finally killed. It took him a long time to realize what exactly had happened to him all those years. And parts of Ion's enchantment still haunts him to this day. But his mind is now clear, and he no longer sobs for her at night. But it is far too late to save his relationship with his sibling, Lolita...

Added Info

- He speaks very monotone, and moves slowly (mostly just to piss people off because he likes to be an asshole).
- He has a soft spot for women, particularly female demons.

- Rumoured to have studied necromancy (which is why Astasia initially goes looking for him, to bring Zerek back)

- He has a slight obsession with tying knots.

• When he was with the demoness Ion, one of the things she made him do repeatedly would be tie his own noose and tempt fate on a tree branch. She found it amusing, and he did it to show his devotion to her.
• Lolita encountered this and thus it was the moment she refused to live like they were living, any longer.
• The knot tying obsession is still ingrained in his subconscious, although he is no longer under Ion's spell, the quirk remains, even in the most subtle of forms...
• Markus remembers being in the enchanted state, but its foggy, and his mindset was so different then, it is like remembering someone else's life within a dream.

Astasia notices his knot tying hobby when she spends more time with him.
"Why do you make so many knots?"
"Good practice."
"Making knots?"
"Never know when you might need one..."
"okay ... I guess."

- Lolita discovers a book in a lord's keep during one her raids that Ion forced her to do.
The book once belonged to Alton (Cutts in his human life). She kept this secret from Ion, and in turn, destroyed Ion using the spells in the book, thus freeing her brother from the enchantment he was placed under. She was to destroy the book, knowing it cursed, but Markus stabbed her in the back (quite literally), as he was still in a slightly warped enchanted state, and fled with with the book.

From there, he began to learn magic and eventually turned into the tamer he is today. It took years before the enchantment truly 'wore off', and even though he is no longer bound by Ion and the memory of her words, he will never be the same as the brother Lolita once knew.
