Relationships

Hamza Lasout
Father - Deceased Hamza did his best to try and be a perfect father, doing his best to provide for his daughter, but when he died in a car accident what was left was mostly just barely there memories supplemented by a combination of one or two, slightly worn, VHS tapes with one or two family moments on it and an album or two stuffed to the brim of pictures. However, despite all this he does have a presence in Komel's life even to this day with a small memorial shrine still in the home that Komel still consistently tends to. While Komel has few if any memories of her father? She is more than aware of the impact of his death on her mother and has, as a result, opted to try and make things as easy for Dwei as possible.
Dwei Lasout
MotherInitially raised by her mother Dwei and father Hamza? Following the latter's death Dwei became the primary, if not sole figure in helping raise Komel, even if at times being a single mother was something of a strain on the woman. Something that Komel picked up very early on and went about doing her best to try and mitigate. Becoming something of a model child even before it was clear that Dwei was pregnant thanks to a happenstance encounter with a man named Akeem Jacobson. Realizing the stress and effort that came simply from raising her? Komel instantly knew that would become doubled once her sister was born. Since then Komel has become an all but independent helpful agent in the home. Doing everything she can to help out whilst using the minimal amount of resources. This hasn't changed as years go on. With her mother's fading eyesight Komel has taken it upon herself to help manage the family store, when she isn't already teaching, to doing the cooking and cleaning around the house. While there are moments that Komel feels resentful that she had to dedicate so much of her life to trying to be perfect and helpful? It rarely if ever gets brought up if just for the sole reason that, in her mind, everything still needs to get done anyway, as she would put it. While Komel has a far better relationship with her mother than Vardah? That doesn't mean there aren't at least some issues between them that don't need to be addressed and as her mother gets older and what are currently benign health issues get worse Komel finds herself unsure whether she should step in and try to fix things or simply let her mother be.
Vardah Lasout
Half-SisterGrowing up? It wasn't difficult for Komel to take on the role of older sister. From helping raise her, to keeping the worst of potentional bully from coming her way when she was younger, to helping impart the skills and knowledge for her to be successful? They both have plenty of memories of sisterly pranks, pointless arguements, and heart-to-heart talks. However in recent years? Komel has become something of a neutral third party between Vardah and their mother Dwei. Following an argument that ended with Vardah not only leaving the house but leaving the country? It has been with Komel that most of the news of Vardah's life gets filtered back to their mother and likewise. It is also Komel whom Vardah is technically the one visiting on the occasions she comes back home. At times Komel can't help but find the fight between them pointless but she can also see the two are two stubborn to come to their right mind without someone helping them. While at times their relationship can be somewhat antagonistic like most sibling relationships can be? Komel often only acts that way to try and keep Vardah from getting in over her head, getting into trouble, and also attempting to mend the relationship between her sister and their mother.
███████ ███████
Grandfather - Deceased It was learning about the fate of her grandparents that put a lot of Komel's mother's teachings into perspective and made her both understand and come to appreciate the efforts that the woman had undertaken in her life. While Komel does want to know more beyond simply what her mother has told her she knows that particular part of history is a very touchy subject locally and rather than wanting to risk getting herself in trouble she opts not to bring it up. Komel feels a pang of guilt and loss, both at what happened to her grandfather but also due to the fact that she never got to know him and what she does know is purely second hand from her mother.

However, of her family members who were lost in such a way? His death in particular struck a cord with her if just by merit that he was the elder sibling. It is partly due to this connection she feels with him that has, in part, made her become such an active and protective figure in her sister's life.

Trivia

⭐ Komel, despite growing up fairly isolated, with it simply being her and her mom, even more so when her father died, has adapted to and taken to being around other people so well that not only does she typically stand behind the counter helping run the store when she isn't at work, being the face that deals with the public, but she also needs to be around people or else she tends to go a bit stir crazy. Often pacing, forcing herself to distract herself by doing things, etc.

⭐ Komel, while not having anything that could be considered formal art training loves to look at and study art. Her room at her home is covered with everything from 50s pop art to prints of Alphonse Mucha's art nouveau, to a lot of social realist art.  Although if she had to pic something in particular she would have to say she is something of a fan of abstractionism and minimalism; even more so when they get blown up to be proper murals. While she doesn't do it often she used to actually paint the side of the store she worked at and still works out. Though these works usually get painted over by someone a bit later.

⭐ Komel, like her sister Vardah, had her politics shift to the left when she was made aware of the fate of her grandparents and uncle? However, not as far as Vardah or at least not as openly. Often attempting to rein Vardah in to avoid her getting in trouble with the wrong people or act-scolding her try and appease those types of folks while in public. Something born from a sense of wariness that was instill by their mother. At times this has resulted in Komel amost acting like a bully to her younger sister in an effort to rein her in and keep her out of trouble with the wrong people.

⭐ Komel is in the closet about her attraction to woman. While she is more than sure her mother knows she keeps her attraction very close to the vest. She's attempted dating men, and had a boyfriend for a time, and while she was interested in him romantically that was about where it ended. While she has met one or two women like her they usually don't stick around after the fact often moving around either in the country or out of it. As such she has put a lot of her dating prospects on the back burner to focus on her job and home life.

⭐ Komel is far stronger than she looks on the surface, in part because she tends to dress fairly conservatively, but like her mother? Years, and in Komel's case practically her whole life of long walks and lifting heavy things has resulted in the young woman being more than a match for most people one-on-one. Something that was proven the first time she got into a fight with a girl at a school she went too. Not knowing her own strength? Komel gave one punch that broke the girl's nose.  Since then, however? She's been hesitant to use her strength for anything aside from, well, lifting things for work.

⭐ Komel is a rather decent shot and fairly accurate as a result of her being trained in how to use them by her mother Komel. While not as accurate as her mother who taught herself how to shoot as a way to survive or her sister who, likewise, had been trained in how to use guns like her but also had the benefit of having those skills refined and constantly tested and drilled as a result of being in the military? If pressed Komel could pick off a target at about 75 meters fairly comfortably.

⭐ Komel is a fairly decent cook, not only as a result of her taking it upon herself to help make family meals growing up, but also simply because she enjoys cooking now and then. It isn't uncommon for her to make snacks that she then in turn brings in for her class and members of the faculty to have.
