Habu is a solitary snake yokai who lives in a small, rented house in a town that overlooks the neighbouring city. He spends his time tending tohis plants as he waits for his friend, Tanchouzuru's return.

Uwabami had served a lot of time as a guard at a small Hokkaido Shrine, swearing his life to protect his friend Tanchouzuru. However all good things come to an end and the shrine burnt down while he was out on a mission. Returning to no home and with his friend nowhere in sight, he was left in shambles. Taking refuge in a nearby village he worked up on the courage to go try to find his friend.

So he left on a mission. Going from Shrine to Shrine, some priest must have known his friend, or at the very least saw him fly over the land. However days turned to weeks to years to decades. Almost a full century went by and he had no lead on his friend, though by the curse that bound them together it was obvious that he was still out there somewhere.

With morale waning, Habu stopped by a town rumored by local yokai to have a very powerful shrine. Accidentally arriving too early, he decided to sleep in an abandonned house by the edge of the village to wait for nightfall. He did not want to be seen and questioned. Though this granted him the exact opposite of what he wished, for a descendant of the house found him when doing a routine check. To his surprise the human was quite reasonable and decided to let him stay in the run-down house in return for some yardwork.

Uwabami obliged and with time came to learn of the original house's owner, a late gardener who was cherished by the town. Uwabami eventually went to see the shrine that he had come so far, only to find a shadow of it's former self. Once the gardener had passed away, there was no one to keep the shrine tidy. Uwabami's arrival signaled a wave through the town and everyone pitched in to help restore the Shrine.

Though he did not find the answers he was seeking, he did find a place he could call home, a new hobby and most important of all, a new family as he settled in to this sleepy town, taking the grand title of 'Gardener' with utmost honor.
