Profile

~~~Beth~~~
It had been a long and hard winter. There was very little food to be found. My mother gave up everything she could find to make sure my little sister Rosia and I were well fed. My father was apparently not very approving of this. He ate his fair share of food and had advised her to do the same. "Let the children die." I overheard him telling her. She didn't agree with him and was adamant that Rosia and I live. She continued to deprive herself to let us eat. As a young child, I had no idea that she was not eating. I just ate what I was given. Now, she has passed and is no longer with us. My father was outraged. He blamed "the whole mess" on us. He was very mean to us and would not feed us. Eventually, I sent Rosia away and took the wrath of our father on myself. I told him Rosia starved to death. He seemed to get some sort of twisted satisfaction out of this news.
Β I felt like crawling in a hole and never coming out.Β
So I did. I hid.Β
But then
He came
A pitch black face with deep brown eyes glared into the hole I had taken shelter in.
At first I was afraid and shrunk back farther into the hole.
But then
He said
"It's alright, my name is Jojo and I'm going to help you. Rosia led me here."
I saw my little sister peep into the hole.
"I'm going to fight for you." Jojo declared.
And having nothing to lose, I believed him.
And I'm glad I did.
He fought tooth and claw with my father to save usΒ from his tyrrany. He was somehow victorious. He told Rosia and I that we were priceless and invaluable and that we deserved better.
He has now adopted us as his own, and I couldn't be more grateful.
I love you daddy.
