Personality

Valorn is generally quite kind-hearted, brave and optimistic, painting the picture of a happy-go-lucky type of person that seems to have had no tough hurdles in life. He is confident in his skills and agility, rarely sparing a second thought as to whether he would be good enough to make a jump or not, landing him in some perilious situations in the past, but he always looks forward and moves on quickly from past events. He tends to be infected quite easily with excitement and enthusiasm, particularly for the things he loves most, such as adventuring and the violin. 

He is also quite impulsive and reckless, used to making idle decisions and jumping forward with it immediately, without really thinking about the consequences. Additionally, after being independent for so long and used to trusting his own judgement, he's also quite stubborn, quick to jump to his own conclusion and stick to it resolutely until definitively proven wrong. Fortunately, he is actually quite smart despite how he seems, making these problems rarer and harder to discern.

Backstory

Family

Valorn is a descendant of a lineage of wanderers, with his roots spread widely across the springs. His mother and father had settled down in a small city in order to birth him and his older sister, but had unfortunately passed away whilst the children were still at a young age after a casual artifact hunting trip. Fostered with his sister by their many aunts and uncles, the siblings quickly grew used to travelling from place to place in order to stay with different family members. It was fortunate that their family was always willing to take them in, taking turns in sharing the burden of raising two suddenly parentless children. Still, although showered with friendly warmth, Valorn never again felt like he had a place to call 'home', a safe haven where he truly belonged, and could always return to.

Adventuring

As someone that has travelled almost all his life, Valorn has seen the wonders of the world around him and has grown to become always curious about the unknown, with the freedom to explore them at his leisure. At first, he would just peek into spooky caves and towering forests whilst hiding behind his sister, but later he would be found ruin-diving, soaring from tree-to-tree and relaxing on the tallest mountain peaks. Naturally many injuries would follow in his reckless, curiosity-filled adventures, but no matter how often or closely he scrapes by permanent injury and perhaps even death, he will never forget the thrill and wonder of adventuring.

Violin

Valorn's first encounter with the violin was as a wee child, back when his parents were still alive. He would listen attentively to his sister's violin playing, even as a toddler, 'with a goofy grin on his face' as quoted from his sister. Since then, although his sister doesn't play anymore, his ears had always been more sensitive to the distinct melody of a violin, and enjoyed it more than other music/instruments.

He picked up violin for the first time at his paternal aunt's house, who was quite successful and wealthy with four kids, since she perceptively noticed his interest and surprised him on his birthday with his own violin and a hired violin tutor. Since then, when taking a break for adventuring or otherwise having some free time, he would always spend some time playing the violin, though only usually for himself.

Money

Although his sister still stubbornly gives him enough money for his living expenses every month, Valorn can make enough profit to sustain himself, via selling artifacts, relics and all sorts of weird or rare stuff found from his adventuring. He also takes on an odd part-time job or two at times during his travels, such as filling in for a bard's absence at a tavern with his violin-playing.

Extra

• A story has been told countless times, passed from generation to generation in Valorn's family, about how their ancestor from the depths of the Underground was once a great warrior that caused an incredible snowstorm. Whether this is true or just an exaggerated tale, who knows, but whenever Valorn hears the phrase 'great warrior' his excitement and curiosity immediately dies down due to the sheer boredom he has associated with the phrase.
