Yoki

she/her - 20yrs - INFJ-T

"Inhale. Exhale. You will make it through."

PROFILE

Yoki is the daughter of the chief of the Etuni tribe on planet Khela and the spirit of Afterlife. Her name means rain and her twin brother Helaku's name means sun.

Yoki and her family live in a region named Raica, and she as well belongs to the tribe Etuni like her brother. Her father is extremely strict and has exact plans for his children. Yoki is supposed to be married off to another chief's son to enforce the ally.

Yoki suffers from insomnia and has various mental health issues due to the fact that their father treats her very poorly as she doesn't want to accept her fathers plans for her. Her rebellious attitude and behaviour towards her father continuously worsens their relationship. With Helaku however, she is very close.

Yoki is a High Chimaera, which means he is mainly human but has a few animal traits. In her case, she only has small antlers and a few bluebird feathers on her body, mainly her back and under her breast. She hides them because her father always ripped them off to hurt her and she doesn't consider them beautiful anymore.

From her early childhood on, she always had dreams of possible future deaths and death telling her to choose. She can see animal and human ghosts (their disembodied souls) and tries to calm them on their way.

PERSONALITY

"Let your hopes, not your hurts, shape your future."

Yoki is always tired, she has fought for years against her fathers tyrant behaviour, and she keeps fighting for Helaku and herself - but the bad night's rest due to death visiting nearly all of her dreams slowly deprive her of all her strength. She is an rather introverted much like her twin brother, but can and will not accept her fathers behaviour.

  • MAGIC SKILL: Sense feelings of others
  • Yoki and her father have a very problematic relationship. Her father abuses her physically and emotionally and openly called her out for falsely claiming magic talent.
  • The reason why her father won't believe her is the fact that there already is a student of the current shaman. In Yokis tribe, there's only a shaman with magic talent born every 100 years, which simply means Yoki cannot possibly have any magic.
  • Whenever Yoki tries to prove her abilities, they don't work or people cannot see what she is doing (talking with ghosts for example). Warnings of future deaths aren't possible either because death is not bound to time and does not tell her when it will happen and she doesn't dream of it in chronological order either.
  • Being a high chimaera means having more human parts than animal ones.
  • Yoki can shift her physical appearance a little bit more towards human (hide her antlers and feathers) or more towards chimaera (get blue bird wings) just like her people. Since her father liked to torture her by picking her feathers, she keeps them hidden most of the time.
  • Yoki and all the people in her tribe don't count years, but cycles of the planet Etune, which appears every 5-6 years on the night sky over Khela and is the main resource of time the Etuni Tribe calculates with. There are no seasons and therefore no years in their time calculation. The sun is always at the same place and has the same intensity.
Childhood

Yoki was born in the last minutes a stormy, dark, rainy and cold night, his twin brother Helaku only a few minutes later, when the first rays of sunshine met the lands. This is how their mother chose their names: Helaku means "the sun is shining" and Yoki means "it rained". Their mother Eyela dies when the twins were only 1 full Etune (5-6 year cycle), they were about 8 years in exact.

Before her mother died, Yoki dreams of death without being scared of them. Since she is still very young, she has no fear and no prejudices and sees death as who they are and their chosen appearance.

Her mother's death however makes Yokis vision of death dark and full of fear which leads to her not being able to see death in their true form anymore.

While Helaku supresses his magic abilities unconciously after the tragic death of his mother Eyela while giving birth to their little brother (who died right after being born), Yoki develops her magic from cycle to cycle further.

However, she suffers from insomnia because of the frequent nightmares (aka dreams in which death visits her).

Yokis and Helakus father is the chief of the Etuni tribe, he is extremely strict and has already planned both his children’s lives beforehand. While Helaku is therefore supposed to be the future chief, Yoki should marry one of the allied tribes’ chiefs to enforce the alliance.

Yoki fell from her father’s grace because she claims to have magic abilities. There had never been more than one shaman every hundred years and the current shaman already has a student, and because Yoki cannot prove her abilities, their father assumes she is a liar and just wants to be rebellious. Helaku is the only one who believes her and comforts her during the night if she had visions and bad dreams again. Yokis visions get clearer and death starts to ask more of her, like deciding who dies instead of just showing her, and during teenage years, Yoki is therefore mentally very weak and extremely depressed and sleep-deprived, so Helaku takes care of her a lot.

One day, Yoki finds a gravely wounded person in the woods, and Helaku and her save him together, although finding out he is from an enemy tribe of shapeshifters in the east of the land. They find out he has been expelled and therefore now lives in the forest near them. Both agree he cannot be found by their dad and they continue helping him.

Yoki recognizes Kiaan, the young shapeshifter, from one of her first dreams where she actually tried to save the person. She saw her brother sitting with Kiaan and being happier than she had ever seen him, and when death tried to kill him, she stopped him and saved Kiaan, only to find she couldn't save his brothers fiancé who hanged herself in her dream right afterwards.

Yoki keeps this dream from her brother to not make him worry, and when his fiancé suddenly dies right before their planned wedding, she decides to never tell him about her being the cause of it.

For the moment, they are planning on how to flee from their father and help Yoki escape from her arranged marriage. More about their story in literatures!

NÆMID'AHOTE

Yoki and Næmid meet in her dreams nearly every night since she was little, but she first thinks they want to harm her, or drive her insane, while they only try to help her adjust (although they do an awful job at it). When she finds out she does not have to be afraid of them, she eventually gets closer to them.

unknown.png
Hun'Janu

Hun'Jahu is the Yoki's forced fiancé. He really presses on the marriage, although Yoki has told him several times that she is not interested, but since their father supports Hun'Jahu, he keeps trying to get his fingers on her.

unknown.png
Joen

Joen is a faun living in the forest around the Etuni tribe. He loves playing pranks, and both Yoki and Helaku like spending time with him. However, he seems to be not able to speak, and he never shows his face. Instead, he talks through gestures, and covers his face behind a mask. He seems to be a bit younger than Helaku.

unknown.png
Kiaan

Kiaan is Helaku's crush and a good friend of Yoki. She found him in the woods, badly wounded, and her and Helaku decided to help him and he now lives in the forest near their tribe village.

unknown.png
HELAKU

Helaku is Yokis twin brother. They share a strong bond, and would do everything for each other, even die. They are both spirits of Etune, Yoki the Spirit of Afterlife, and Helaku the Spirit of Forelife. Helaku worries about Yoki a lot, as she keeps rebelling against their father, who in exchange abuses her physically and mentally.

unknown.png
Ahato

Ahato is Yoki's father. He abuses Yoki as she is rebellious and claims she has magic potential that Ahato views as impossible. Ahato is extremely strict and doesn't allow the slightes insubordinate behaviour coming from his children. He expects Yoki and Helaku to be the same as himself.

unknown.png
Eyela

Eyela is Yoki's mother. She loved both of her children a lot and was the balancing part of Yoki's and Helaku's parents marriage. Her death not only traumatizes Helaku for his life, but also causes Ahato to fall in a deep depression, and he starts to not care about his children anymore as they remember him of his wife.
