The wilds were never a kind place, not even before the vampires. For a wolf with a coat of pure black and eyes or striking blue, they were as cruel as they were beautiful. The pack he was born into never seemed to evolve. They wandered place to place. As he began to question, they began to stare. He tried to explain himself, but they didn't understand. Never once did they understand. When they would hunt he was the most successful, but they began to see it as something wrong. He was wrong. They snapped at him- chased him away. He tried to reason, but there was no reason to be had. They didn't understand him, not any longer. Something in him had changed and he could tell. His mind was something different- something strange. He didn't like it necessarily, but there was no point in dwelling, was there? As the pack ran behind him he stumbled and heaved. It hurt to think he would be alone, but if he was so strange, then alone was all that fit.

He ended up away from the wilds- a city. Humans he had seen but now understood. He watched them from darkened alleys as though they were prey, but knew better than to try to hunt. They would fear him, his hulking size and glinting fangs. He missed the pack- the idea of home. That was when he found himself coming face to face with another oddity. A dog- not a wolf. The poor thing looked as though it was once pampered but now, oh now it was but a mess. A scrawny thing with matted fur and weak eyes. Surely it hadn't eaten in weeks. It hadn't.

The dog's name was Malik, and he explained many things. He gave Lingent his name, Lin for short- a nickname, he called it. Lin found that he enjoyed the name- the company. The two traveled like pack would but had far more on their minds. They knew how to hunt and to trick- how to survive not just in the cruel wilds but the dangerous city. Not even humans were a real threat anymore- not with Malik wagging his tail and strutting his stuff. Lin would watch from the shadow- grinning and waiting every time. Until, suddenly things went wrong. The wrong alley, the wrong place. He found himself at the mercy of a human who feared the wolf. The sight of his own blood was not unfamiliar, but when Malik's came next he felt true fear for the first time.

He pleaded with the first he could call a friend in weak whimpers. He couldn't lose him- not now. It was then she came to him. A massive silken wolf with fur as white as the purest snow but stained with leaking neon. She sneered down at him in digust and he only glared. He would not have anymore harm his friend. She spoke lowly that as strange as he was, he would have to do. The world became bright and suddenly... He awoke. He found himself speckled in color- a sheen to his fur new. He turned to his friend expecting the worst- but was met with the same, agitated eyes. A grin came to his face, and in the moment, he realized... He was Beautiful.
